Being fans of the new Ultimate universe from Marvel, my players and I took a unique approach when the characters they started with didn't turn out quite the way they wanted them to: we made their "Ultimate" versions and started over. The problem for me, however, was that I didn't have any stats for the revised Marvel villains that existed in the Ultimate Universe, and being the GM meant that I had to come up with some opposition for my ever-eager true believers. So, for the benefit of those who might decide to delve into the Ultimate universe in their games (or are already delving), I offer my interpretations of a few villains from the Ultimate universe...
ULTIMATE DOOM
Real Name: Victor Van Damme
Mutagenic, Male
Hair: None
Eyes: Blue (Red when he's angry, but I figured that was just for effect in the comics)
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 450 lbs.
Intelligence: 8
Strength: 6
Agility: 4
Speed: 4
Durability: 4
Health: 4
Energy: 12
ACTIONS
Close Combat: 3
(Str. Bonus or Weap. Mod.)
-Hand-to-Hand
-Dirty Tricks
Ranged Combat: 5
(Weap. Mod.)
-Own Inventions
-Firearms
Technology: 7
(Int. Bonus)
Invention: 6
(Int. Bonus)
Quills: 6
-Range: 3
Leadership: 3
Social Skills: 4
-Arrogance
-Intimidation
-Authority
-Scientific Community
Poison Breath: 5
-Can't be improved by lines
-2x Damage
-Area: 2
MODIFIERS
-Appearance: Non-human; body made of living metal with cloven hooves for feet
-Toughness: (+4), No AP or 2x Dmg.
-Claws: (+2)
-Accelerated Healing Factor: Heal 1 white stone per 2 Panels, Regenerates 3 red stones per 2 white stones per Panel
-Wealth: (-1)
(steals and scavenges materials for inventions)
EQUIPMENT
-Custom Bazooka: (+4), 2x Dmg, Range: 5
Optional Equipment (this is stuff I gave him for the adventure I used him in, which took place after his first appearance in Ultimate Fantastic Four):
-Infrared Scanner (7)
(I figured he would have built this to deal with the Invisible Girl after their first encounter, being the careful planner that he is)
-Jet Pack: enables Flight: 4
-N-Zone Teleportation Device: enables Teleportation: 3
(I realized that Van Damme should know how the N-Zone works, so why wouldn't he use it to his advantage?)
So that's what I came up with for Ultimate Dr. Doom, and it worked out pretty well. Just as a warning, I never bother to go through the 40-stone character creation when I'm setting up my villains, but I do my best to hold close to the abilities I've seen them exhibit in the comics. For Ultimate Doom I figured he's similar to his 616 counterpart in all learned abilities, except that he's just not quite as skilled yet (hence the lower Inventing score).
Now for some Ultimate Spidey villains, starting off with the good ol' Green Goblin!
ULTIMATE GREEN GOBLIN
Real Name: Norman Osbourn
Mutagenic, Male
Hair: Red-Brown/None
Eyes: Blue/Red
Height: 5'9"/7'0"
Weight: 150 lbs./950 lbs.
Intelligence: 7/7
Strength: 2/7
Agility: 2/5
Speed: 2/4
Durability: 2/5
Health: 2/5
Energy: 14(i)/15
ACTIONS
Close Combat: 3
(Str. Bonus or Weap. Mod.)
-Brawling
-Hand-to-Hand
-Dirty Tricks
Ranged Combat: 2
(Weap. Mod.)
-Handguns
-Small Arms
Technology: 6
(Int. Bonus)
Inventing: 5
(Int. Bonus)
Leadership: 4
Business Skills: 4
(Int. Bonus)
Fire Blast: 0/6
-Range: 4
-2x Dmg.
Social Skills: 3
-Socialite
-Professional Criminal
-Industry
MODIFIERS:
-Transform Self (at will)
-Toughness: (+0/+3)
-Insane, Mental Defense: (+6)
-Claws: +0/+2
-Healing Factor: Heal 1 white stone per hour, Regenerate 3 red stones per 2 white per Panel
EQUIPMENT
-None (unless you want to count his scattered underground bunkers)
The Goblin is fairly straightforward, with most of his "normal" skills pretty much the same. It's only with his powers that he really differs. I guess I could have given him Vehicle Operation, but he's never actually used a vehicle in Ultimate Spider-Man, so eh.
Finally, I tried my hand at an Ultimate Carnage. All I can say is I did my best with what little I know of the creature, seeing as how its powers weren't really explored that much yet.
ULTIMATE CARNAGE
Real Name: Inapplicable
Genetic Construct, Male(?)
Hair: None
Eyes: Yellow
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 180 lbs.
Intelligence: 1
Strength: 5
Agility: 5
Speed: 4
Durability: 4
Health: 4
Energy: 12
ACTIONS
Close Combat: 2
(Str. Bonus or Weap. Mod.)
Web-Slinging: 3
(Agi. Bonus)
Wall-Crawling: 5
(Agi. Bonus)
Tendril Whip: 5
(Str. Bonus or Weap. Mod.)
Drain Energy: 6
(If victim reduced to zero stones, he is killed)
-Improved Drain
-Death Factor (must completely drain one victim every hour or lose one white stone; dead in 4 hours if he fails to drain)
MODIFIERS:
-Toughness: (+3), No AP or 2x Dmg.
-Claws/Fangs: (+2), to both Close Combat and Tendril Whip
-Mental Invulnerability (no mind to take over!)
Like I said, Carnage was tough. I added his claws to his tendril whip because in the comic he literally plunged them into people's chests. The biggest problem I had was coming up with a way to reflect him "rebuilding" himself with Drain Energy until he came to resemble Peter's dad. That seemed to me to be more like a plot point then a representable power, and even so this was more of a challenge for me than a usable character. Still, I thought it might be fun to throw him out there and see what everyone thinks, or see if anyone has some better ways of interpreting him (or Doom or Gobby, for that matter). I'll try to put up some more Ultimate villains as I make 'em up. In the meantime, let me know what you think of these three!
