Born with a sweet name and a nimble mind, Ryan Granite was always, well... explosive. He fell in love with things that go boom, and made a vow that only his devices would express himself, and thus he would never speak. His home life was as volatile as a container of nitroglycerine, and he ended up walking away and leaving behind a pile of ash from an incendiary he threw into his own bedroom window.

Hal North Intelligence: 5 Strength: 3 Agility: 3 Speed: 3 Durability: 4 Actions: Close Combat: 5 (Intelligence bonus or Weapon Modifier) Hand-to-Hand Multiple Martial Arts Fighting Animals Hunting/Tracking: 5 Spot/Setup Ambush Recognize signs of life Leadership: 5 Leading on the hunt Leading under duress Growth: 5 Can’t be improved by adding lines Grow to 100’ +1 strength per 20’ (+1 extra for the first 20’) +1 durability per 20’ Social Skills: 4 Giving Orders Small Talk Threats Modifiers: Toughness +2 Accelerated Healing Factor Ultra-Sensitive Hearing (+2 to Hunting/Tracking) Wealth (2) Challenges: Mutant +3 Power is Painful to Use (When Ha grows, it causes him tremendous pain, disrupting his concentration and costing him 1 red stone the next panel) +1 Chronic Condition (Hal’s constant growing and shrinking has caused negative effects to his body’s nerves, causing him pain throughout his life) +3 Looking non-human (Hal’s body structure has warped so that his arms as thicker than his legs, his upper-body is much longer than his lower body, and his ears are larger and more sensitive than normal) +3 Psychological Disorder (Because Hal lives in constant pain, he has come to not care whatsoever about his own life or any other pain that can be inflicted upon him, causing him to take reckless chances) +2 Overwhelmed senses (As noted under Looking-Nonhuman, Hal’s ears are larger and more sensitive than normal due to his continuous growth and shrinking. As such loud noises are particularly disruptive to him. This aids his ability to hunt and track, but can also cause him immense pain and cost him 1 stone from each action he was involved in during the noise). +3 Background: Genius Hal North always did things his own way. His father was a dedicated hunter, and repeatedly brought Hal along on his trips. Although Hal had been eager for most of his life, by the time he was eighteen he had grown tired of shooting things, as he felt there was no sport in it. Angry at his son’s viewpoint, Hal’s father challenged him to go into the woods and capture a deer without using any weapons. Shrugging, Hal ventured into the forest to try. Spotting some tracks in the mud, Hal began to follow the trail when he heard a growl. Whirling, he was confronted by a cougar, and his brain worked to find a way out. Remembering his father’s advice that he make himself as big as possible, Hal willed himself to get bigger, spreading his arms wide. To his shock, he actually began to grow, and he screamed in agony as his bones stretched and cracked. Stopping at about 40 feet tall, Hal was momentarily rewarded with the Cougar’s retreat, but soon collapsed from the pain and the strain on his body. Found by his father, Hal told him that he was confronted by a cougar and drove him off, but chose not to reveal his new powers. Reveling in having powers like his heroes, Hal decided to go the way of government aid and enlisted in the special forces. Although they were less than enthused by his dislike of firearms, the Special Forces welcomed him with open arms when they learned of his other capabilities. Sharpening his hunting and tracking skills, Hal became a super-soldier of sorts, rising to lead an elite team on many a dangerous mission. Recently released from his military service, Hal was living a good life, until he was called to visit a mysterious island for his home state (Washington) for the Initiative.

I.E. feels he should lead even in situations where he has no expertise.) Hunter McCarthy was born to lead. As a boy, he grew up not reading about Spider-man and the Hulk, but about Genghis Khan, Sun Tzu, Patton, and Rommel. He’s been leading men and women since elementary school, when he staged a successful strike against the bullies. Joining the military as soon as he could, he soon grew disenchanted with the strict discipline and lack of strategic planning. A sentimental scientist decided to use Hunter in an experiment designed to create the ultimate general, and in doing so created a man with slightly above human physical prowess and the ability to produce force fields. When word came of a group of gathering superheroes, Hunter donned his fatigues and headed out to lead them to victory against any opponent.

Othello Burns Height: 5’11” Weight: 165 lbs. Abilities: Intelligence: 6 Strength: 2 Agility: 2 Speed: 2 Durability: 3 Energy: 12
Actions: Close Combat: 4 (Intelligence Bonus or Weapon Modifier) Hand to Hand Fencing Boxing
General Knowledge: 5 (Intelligence Bonus) The English Language Literature Etiquette Latin
Social Skills: 5 Diction Teaching Literature Quotes Latin
Technology: 3 (Intelligence Bonus) X-men technology
Acting: 5 Shakespeare (his namesake in particular)
Force Field: 4 (Intelligence Bonus) Increased Range: 3 +1 Free Stone Per Stone Spent Pay Stones For Area Greater Than 2 Ignore Armor Penetration
Modifiers: Wealth (2) Reflexive Dodge + 2
Equipment: Sword-cane +2 (Note: this may seem to break the code of etiquette, but Burns always allows his opponent to see him unsheathe it so as not to have an unfair advantage)
Challenges: Follows proper etiquette at all times +3 (that may seem high, but think about how difficult that is) Mutant +2 Can seem too honorable (see sword-cane) +2 Severe dislike of today’s culture + 3 (although Othello maintains an air of patience with his students and the faculty, he hates the way the world has abandoned its more noble roots. Notable examples include personal music players, which he considers a distraction, the Internet, which he considers a smorgasbord of vulgarity, illicit sex, and poor grammar. Although he is familiar with X-men technology and technology at large, if Othello can, he will do things the old-fashioned way).
Background: Othello Burns has always been interested in knowledge. Always having a good grasp of the English language, Othello became, as his parents were, fans of all things literature. He absorbed works by Shakespeare, Dickens, King, Stoker, and every other author he could get his hands on. Through his readings in classical literature, Othello decided to fashion himself into a gentleman, and in doing so he opened new doors to himself. He studied fencing, boxing, etiquette, and Latin. He worked hard to buy a gentleman’s wardrobe, and was often seen wearing a fine suit with a polished cane. Soon he decided to use his knowledge to teach others how to get back to their more noble roots and act like proper people through teaching, and was soon hired by a local high-school. Although many saw him as an eccentric, his students loved his intelligence and classy demeanor. He worked hard and was quite satisfied with where he was, but it was not to last. While strolling through the school grounds one day, Othello witnessed a mugging. Determined to aid the victim, Othello chased after the perpetrator, waving his cane as he pursued the younger, more athletic man. Frustrated, Othello thrust his arm out and watched in amazement as the man slammed into an invisible barrier and fell to the ground. Returning the victim’s money, Othello then fled the scene to figure out what had happened. After experimenting non-stop, Othello finally figured out that he was producing invisible barriers of an energy he couldn’t figure out. Taking an extended leave of absence, Othello put his power to the test. At first he could only produce force fields of moderate strength through great difficulty. Then, as he progressed, he learned to combine these force-fields with his intellect to make them even stronger and eventually he trained himself to create these force-fields up to 100 yards away. He could make them thin, thick, twisted, straight, he could push people with them, trap people within them, and even make containers out of them. Unfortunately, during this practice, Othello was seen by the High-School principal, who spread the word that the respected English teacher was a mutant. Distressed about his future, Othello was faced with the horrible possibility of having to give up his teaching career for fear of people seeing him as only a mutant. Fortunately, Othello was contacted by the famous (or infamous) Mutant High and offered a position there, where he could be among his own kind and once again bring the words of the great authors to life. Packing his belongings, Othello tipped his hat to his old life and walked into his new one.

Regenerate 3 Red Stones per Panel Equipment: Pistol +1 Challenges: Vulnerability to strong emotions (Hank has a vivid imagination, but when he falls under too much stress or his emotions overwhelm him, he manifests his thoughts as illusions, sometimes with monstrous results). +3 Haunted Past (Growing up in Hell’s kitchen) +1 Back-Story: Hank Tyson has the talent to be a great writer, but his imagination also becomes his nightmare. Growing up in the cruel alleys of Hell’s kitchen, Hank saw and experienced things that made “normal” people flinch as he recalled them. The Alley taught you to fight early, and Hank was a quick learner. He soon gained the ironic nickname “Scar” because he never seemed to get them no matter how many fights he got into. Still, no matter how fast his body healed, he was still plagued with harsh nightmares. He tried to explain to his parents what haunted him, but to his annoyance they couldn’t understand what he was feeling. His mind flooding with so much horror with no way to express it, his frustration took him to the breaking point. Then he heard his mother scream, and turned his head to see the images that plagued his mind manifesting themselves in front of his very eyes. He soon learned to temper his illusions by putting his nightmares to paper, quickly becoming a successful horror and mystery writer, but he wanted to be able to report facts to the public as well, like his favorite reporter, Ben Urich. Graduating from a local college with a degree in journalism, Hank reached his goal and became an investigative reporter. However, walking through the decay and horror in Hell’s Kitchen is taking its toll on Hank. His control over his illusions is fading, and his nightmares are once more becoming visible. However, this new loss of control has opened a new window of opportunity for Hank. Knowing full well how the Kitchen could scar you for life, Hank fights against the darkness to make sure that no one else has to be so haunted, and he hopes to use his illusions to comfort victims while putting fear into criminals.

This can be averted if he places 2 stones into his electric mastery a turn.) +3 Loneliness (As noted, Volt must expend effort simply to touch someone, which wears on him as time goes by, as he never wants to hurt anyone, but he also needs physical touch to feel good as well.) +2 History: For most people, having electric kisses would be a compliment, but for Victor Loss, it’s an all too real problem. Up until his High-School graduation, he was considered normal, but with a peculiar habit for injecting himself with copious amounts of iron, feeling that perhaps it would make him tougher and stronger. For a while it seemed to work, as he became an excellent overall athlete, but he soon learned the downside. During a freak lightning storm, he was struck with a bolt of lightning, but the combination of the metal in him and something in his biological makeup caused turned him into a living electric generator with superhuman speed, the ability to create illusions, and of course the ability to manipulate electricity. He was soon invited to join his local Minnesota-based superhuman team known as Natix, where he discovered he could boost the abilities of the others. Now working as the team’s long-range support, Victor tries to master his electric powers and make a difference in the world
