My friend is involved in a local wrestling ring here in ATL called PCW. There's a chance I can get involved as a "manager" character. I'm meeting with him tonight to see what we can come up with! Keep your fingers crossed guys.

I'm tougher than I... type? read? Nah, I've done lots of fight choreography, and have a pretty high threshold. I'm prepared. The show went really well, and it looks like I can get a scheduled meeting with the guy in charge. Sooooo, yeah, it's looking good. If any more updates come up, I'll post 'em here Thanks for the support, WK!

I was trained as a professional wrestler, but after I asked myself "what will I be doing in ten years." Grabbing men in tights on a saturday night wasn't what I seen myself doing. You should talk to Senseisuplex on the board, because he's still into it. I can say this much though, make sure you have a good trainer. You can get yourself hurt if you don't know what you're doing in the ring. When I trained we spent several weeks learning how to fall, and not get hurt. Then we learned not to exicute the moves without hurting the other person, then we learned how to make it look real. There is much much more than that. Just remember safety first.

Excellent, glad to hear it went well. Good luck with the whole thing. Wrestling is simultaneously a great business and a horrible one. It's made a lot of lives complete and its swallowed a lot of people whole. Enjoy yourself and keep us informed!

I don't know if you have ever considered them but Judo, Aikido, and Jiu-Jitsu are great lead ins for wrestling training if you don't have a wrestling school near you. As others have said safty first, but you sound like you know exactly what you are up for. I wish you well. Any chance we will see youtube or other video?

Yeah, if I can wiggle my way in there, I could probably throw some links up. I think if you just search PCW on YouTube you'll find some videos. My friend is the manager/commentator "Kilgore". But yeah, it's an indie group that has some legs. At an event at the end of the month they're going to be holding a match with Samoa Joe and Amazing Kong. So, you know, could be some awesome opportunities there.
If I can ever start getting some regular cash flow again, I'll definitely look into classes. I know I don't have what it takes to be a wrestler, nor would I want to, but having some training and some bodily know-how could help even just as a manager. Thanks for the tip!

At the very least, ask a wrestler to show you how to fall sometime. Its amazing how useful that "stuntman fall" can be. That, and the trick to bouncing off the ropes without bruising your kidneys or snapping your neck ;D

Heh, I will! I had some wrestling experience in middle school and freshman year of high school, and I've done stunts before, but nothing like what I saw last night at the PCW show. If they pick me up in the future, I will definitely work with whoever I can on how not to snap things in half!

Also, I totally forget, WK, but did you wrestle back in the day or anything like that? Like, did you do any backyard stuff or any indie work at all?

LOL not really, no. Aside from some backyard stuff as a kid.
BUT, my first job out of high school was working for the local paper. I wrote about entertainment, and specifically covered music and wrestling. I got to meet a lot of wrestlers and hang out with them, and I learned a real appreciation for the art and athleticism of it all. I'd been a fan my whole life, but thats when I really started to understand what these performers actually do.
I'm peripherally involved with a local promotion called CLASH
(The gent with the long black hair and beard is Tommy Treznick, formerly Tommy Tydie, who has a long and storied career as a local wrestler. CLASH isn't huge, but they've been able to bring in some big names as guest stars... Raven & Bryan Danielson just to drop a couple of names)
