I wish I was joking, but seriously... I used to think his name was Felonious Monk. I didn't exactly grow up in a household where a lot of jazz music was played. Beach Boys, Motown, & old comedy records? Tons. Jazz? Not so much.

I don't even know how I'd sort some of the stuff I listen to, so I usually don't bother. My iPod is usually sorted by Genre, however they are my own oppinionated genres. For instance: The Good Stuff (A mix of Metal, Rock, Modern/Alternative. The stuff I can listen to no matter what my mood) Emphasis on the stuff I can listen to no matter how I feel, or how my day was/is-going. I try to update this sort annually. Classic Rock (Which is likely a bit broader than most peoples definitions). A handful of country-esque artists have fallen into the sort on occasion (Skynard for instance), and yes I have Johnny Cash in this sort as well. It happens with some of the older stuff... Hair Bands? Oh yeah. I may have been born in '81, but man do I love that stuff. Country After I totaled my first car, I ended up driving a beat-up '86 Ford Ranger I got for free. It had an OLD radio in it, that literally had ancient coke-bottle-tops for nobs... only got one station. A country station. It grew on me. It started with a song here, a song there... then a female friend convinced me to go Line Dancing with her onces. Country/Cow-Girls can be a lot of fun if you're willing to relax and let your guard down ;-) Outside The Norm (Oldschool stuff I liked in the 90's... but look back on with shame when I still know the words thanks to ex-'s, inside jokes, parties, and movies). I also put my wifes select songs in here for road trips and such. Pretty much a treasure of guilty pleasures and hidden jewels from my youth that just need brought out on occasion. Comedy (full standup sketches: Lewis Black, Rodney Carrington, etc) Metallica Yes, I do firmly believe that Metallica deserves it's own genre sort on my ipod. Are they my favorite band? Hardly, but I do like them... and just can't bring myself to place them anywhere but on there own. I'm considering giving on to Cake as well. I also have Rap and Hip-Hop sorts... but they're pretty selective and have little in them. More for when I have that strange mood, or I've got a friend/co-worker in the car that's partial to that kind of stuff.

Because I let late 90's wrestling gimmicks do my talking for me... (except for the Nascar part. Nascar sucks)

Ack!
I forgot the most important sort of all:
The SINATRA sort. Yep, all caps too. Stands out a bit.

The only excuse to like Sinatra is if you're an octogenarian of Italian descent.

The only excuse to like Sinatra is if you're an octogenarian of Italian descent. Nah, I blame the movie "Hudson Hawk" for introducing me to Sinatra... and it just grew from there. It's relaxing and makes driving on 94 during rush hour a little safer for the average asshole that offends me on my commute each day .

I94 is like the confluence of all bad driving and construction in the Detroit area. The only place I dislike driving more is in Detroit itself.

I'm not an octogenarian and I like some Sinatra. Then again, I like most music. The only thing I don't listen to is foreign language music and that's solely because I don't understand what they are saying.
The lines of country and rock have been blurred for a very long time. The biggest difference between them being the music and they way its scaled.
And just to say, Johnny Cash's version of Hurt was much better then NiN.

I didn't say only old Italians COULD listen to Frank Sinatra. I said they're the only ones with an excuse. Sinatra is a glorified lounge singer who got ahead because of who he knew, not what he was capable of. That hardly makes him unique in the music industry, but his legendary status befuddles me.

Hey, Rage Against the Machine, the band that proves my point precisely. Rap-metal sucks sweaty nutsack! Thats what I said, booty trap! Okay, this would be way to easy, but the only thing I'm going to say is that when you point the finger there's three fingers pointing back at you, lol. Joking aside The anti-Americanism was the only thing I didn't really like about the Rage Against the Machine. They had a good sound. Especially Tom Morello on guitar. I'm okay with music, but I hate whenever it's just used to push political views. I enjoyed the music, but the political thing not so much. I'm okay with rap too, as long as I'm at a titty bar or something, but guys like Goulett and Frank had something most Rappers by definition don't, and that's vocal talent. Most "rappers" just run their voice through a synthesizer. I can listen to lounge music if I'm in the right setting. So, Frank Sinatra, or Robert Goulet won't be on my iPod list, but I don't freak out when I see a fan either. Don't get me wrong, Seal is a good singer but that's a different genre than rap, but when you get into artist like Kanye West then the beat is good, but the singing not so much.

Kanye West is just an idiot. I don't like the music let alone the man. Listening to him in interviews or in mags I just want to beat the crap out of him.

This is a huge reason I brought him up. He was on Southpark

Not the best episode of South Park ever, but yeah, they skewered Kanye West pretty good.
What I don't get, though, is why bother parodying Kanye West? He's already pretty much a parody of himself. There's no way you can say anything that will make his claim that it was racism that caused people to get upset with him over the Taylor Swift/Beyonce debacle any funnier than it already is.
