As some people on the board may or may not know I study the apocryphal books of the bible, but am not religious by no stretch of the imagination.
With that in mind some people wanted me to join their “church” that also studied these books. However, they actually believe them. Don’t get me wrong I believe they are just as valid as any other book of the bible, but I do not believe the others either. I just happen to have an interest in them.
The thing is this “church” isn’t really a church it’s ran out of their home. Which I donno, I was excited to find a study group that studied something more than just the King James version for a while, but something about that just sent up red flags.
I don’t know if it’s in my head, but that did seem kind of creepy. Maybe I’m imagining things.

Millenialists come in all shapes and sizes. They're mostly not dangerous

Dangerous, no.
Annoying, yes. Well, they can be.
Although, they aren't the only ones. I once got dragged into a religious debate with a preacher because I wanted popcorn. It ended when he told me I wasn't any better than Stalin in the eyes of God, and me telling him if that was the case that's not a God I want anything to do with.
Suffice to say, it wasn't what you would call a good conversation.

I know a church where I live that's run out of what looks like an old house around here, and there's another that's run out of a store front. It might be in your head. It all depends on how the people act really.

As a person of faith, let me say this; whether they're "dangerous" or not is irrelevant. You don't join a church because you're curious about the books they read. A church (properly, a congregration) is a community of believers. If you're not at least open to the notion that there is some truth in what's being discussed, then you really have no business being involved with them.
There are dozens of atheist & agnostic groups out there that make a "scholarly" study of religious texts. Join one of them.
Faith is a gift from God, and no amount of intellectual curiosity will ever make you a believer.

Cults just don't have the same appeal anymore. I don't know of any that have awesome ritualistic sex, but I've encountered plenty of friggen Mormons. Then there's the damn teabaggers, what has the clandestine world come to when these are all it offers?

Oddly enough I was too creeped out about the idea of it being a cult to think of the sex thing, and that's saying something. If I'm too creeped out to think about sex then there's something horribly wrong. Good point Malice.

Then there's the damn teabaggers, what has the clandestine world come to when these are all it offers? ... and then there are the obnoxious brainwashed liberals who insult people for not feeling its acceptable for the Federal Government to take abusive amounts of our hard-earned money and consistently take more and more power unto themselves despite the fact that its expressly forbidden in the Constitution. Perhaps you're right... we teabaggers are a cult. After all, we're pretty obsessed with an ancient document and its proper interpretation.

Perhaps you're right... we teabaggers are a cult. After all, we're pretty obsessed with an ancient document and its proper interpretation. Fire vs Fire Shot at Tea party then shot at Liberals How about this, when it comes to the Tea Party keep in mind it is a very loose organization. There are member groups that are frightiningly close to anarchists, wanting both massive tax cuts and huge reduction of government. There are religious right member groups. Like the current push lead by people like Palin. I think most people think of this group as Palin is very visible in the media. There are member groups who simply want to see lower taxation and more efficent government. Example: removing redundant posts and cutting wasteful spending. Call me a TeaBagger if you would like, but I am quite happy with this faction. I would gladly invite them over for tea. "Liberals" is also a very broad term, including Populists, Socialists and Comunists who are all very different groups. It is best not to over generalize, it creates confusion and bruised feelings.

Actually, I think many churches were started by inviting people into your home. In fact, that's how the church I go to started. And a cult isn't a cult until one guy is brainwashing all the other guys.
