Okay, folks. This ugly beast makes itself known every now and then, and the situation never changes. The monster I refer to is this when I'm reading a rules proposal, especially in the House Rules or Custom Rules forums, and I see this:
This is where I stop reading. This is about the most useless comment one can make about a proposal, especially in those sections of the board I mentioned. Don't take my comment too harshly, it isn't intended to offend, but to educate.
When you say "fine as it is" you immediately set yourself up as an antagonist to everyone that has put thought and energy into making the idea in that thread useful. More importantly, you're simply not likely to be paid any heed, since the people contributing to the idea clearly disagree with you from the start. So posting the above phrase is just a waste of everyone's time and forum space.
Does this mean you should not post if you see a problem with the idea as presented? No, of course not...so long as you have something constructive to add. Telling people that they're wrong and the old way is better isn't constructive. As I said, they already reject that sentiment. But addressing specific concerns with the idea might accomplish something. Best of all, it might make the idea even better than it was, as the contributors (or you!) might propose a solution that solves the problem and improves the overall mechanic.
In short, if you simply disagree with the idea as a whole, but have nothing to add that might improve it, don't post. You don't have to use the new rules, so don't waste the time of those that wish to. But if you see a specific concern, and feel that you can put yourself in the mindset of someone that sees merit in the core idea (even if not the implementation), then by all means, give some constructive criticism.
Thank you for listening, have a nice day.

I think the system is fine as it is.
