Every hero has an origin story. A defining moment where their lives changed forever from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Whether it was Peter Parker being bitten by a radioactive spider, Bruce Banner being caught in the blast of his gamma bomb, or the Fantastic Four taking their rocket ship into the path of strange cosmic rays, all of them and more could trace the beginnings of their heroic careers back to a single defining moment. But what if those moments never took place? In a world where superheroes remain confined solely to comic books or action movies, will these same men and women prove that it was never their powers or costumes that made them heroes? When the need arises, will they find a way to step up and become the heroes they were always destined to be? **** I'm looking to start a new game set in an altered history of the Marvel Universe. Without giving too much away about the reasons why, something would have happened that essentially tampers with the origin stories of every Marvel hero and villain, altering events slightly so that whatever causes them to become super powered in the first place never happens. The end result of this is a world where nobody has super powers, basically a "real world" setting, but where some of the heroes have a distinct sense that something is not quite right...
If anyone's interested in playing, you'll just need to pick a Marvel hero and come up with a version of their character where they've never had powers or a super-hero identity of any kind. Anything in their history up until the point where they gain their powers should remain intact, but after that you can have them go in any direction you feel makes sense and that interests you. For example, if you wanted to play as Spider-Man, he would still have been a high school science nerd raised by his aunt and uncle, but from the point where he doesn't get bitten by a spider up until now, you can have Peter grow in any way you want. As a rough guide, I would say it has been about 10 years or so since the earliest Marvel stuff (the Fantastic Four rocket launch, etc) so if you're playing a character from that era, you'll have about a decade of time to play with; if you wanted to play a much more recent character (Kamala Khan or someone who debuted at a similar time) then you would have much less time between their origin and when the game starts to make any changes.
There are a few other points but I'd like to get a sense of whether people are interested in this game or not before going into lots and lots of details. If you would like to play or want to know anything else, let me know and we can go from there. Thanks!

I'm interested.
What about characters that were born with abilities? (e.g. mutants, Inhumans, Eternals)
How would that work out?

And what about tech based heroes/villains? Like Iron Man and such.

Mutants are absolutely fine; their x-genes would never have triggered. The only exceptions would be characters like Wolverine who are older than a normal human lifespan, but any other mutant is fine.
Aliens and other non-human beings like Inhumans or Eternals would be on the banned list for this game.
Tech based characters like Iron Man are absolutely fine. They would have come close to inventing whatever it is they created but would never actually have completed it. Basically the Inventing action would be out of bounds but a character like Tony Stark would still have his normal Intelligence, Technology, etc.
The other "bans" that come to mind would be anyone involving time travel, alternate reality hopping, cloning or anything else that would not be possible in a real world setting.

I see. Depending on the rules/stone counts/mechanics, I hereby state possible interest in either Doctors Octavius or Strange, respectively a genius robotics (and various other scientifical fields) expert working on advanced prosthetics and similar technology to help people with limited mobility and missing limbs, and genius neurosurgeon. 'Heroes' so far in the sense of making lives better or saving them through medicine.
Will let you know if more ideas come to mind.

Doctor Strange would be a great choice!

And I could use the picture of one of my most favorite actors, good ole Benedict. EDIT: Though I have to admit, I absolutely love Doctor Octopus too.

I wanna do Tyrone "Cloak" Johnson. Is that fine?

Oooh, nice idea. I felt tempted to play Frank Castle as a family man, but I think I'm leaning to another idea: Susan Storm having to juggle between her work as a teacher and taking care of her two kids sounds like a real life hero. After getting a divorce from a Reed Richards so consumed by the frustration of his fruitless research that made her feel invisible, she's now on her own.

Oh, so a Susan Storm who's done what she should have a long time ago in 616?

Interested in hearing more. What do you think of Forge as a character?

If you go for Forge, I will very much likely go for Strange instead of Octavius to avoid redundancy of inventors.

Who without powers is also an inventor, so I stand by my previous statement.

i hadn't noticed that before. In fact the more I go into it most of the interesting male characters have inventing. How annoying...
