I am very sorry to have to break the news that Chadwick Boseman, who has played T'Challa, the Black Panther, in the MCU, has died of colon cancer. He was 43.
I honestly don't know what to say. I don't think his diagnosis and battle were public, so for me this came completely out of nowhere.

I don't think even Marvel knew. I have no idea what they'll do with T'Challa going forward. Do you recast the role? Write T'Challa out off-screen somehow and let another character take up the mantle? Another CGI abomination like Leia and Tarkin in Rogue One? Hell if I know what's right. It's an impossible choice. Boseman was such a perfect choice for the role, he feels irreplaceable.

Didn't think about it. They sure have time to plan it given the situation and the half a dozen movies that come before Black Panther 2. I don't think they will dare to make a CGI Chadwick beyond a short moment for a spirit world scenes or something alike as a memento. The easiest way to sort it out is giving the character an heroic, selfless death with a sacrifice and getting a new Black Panther / ruler. That could go two ways: one, you use Shuri to tell a story about legacy and her being a different BP instead of trying to be her brother since he didn't act as their father either. Or two, you get a flashback to the end of the first one to show that Killmonger didn't die / was brought back and make it a redemption story. Both are good actors, but sure it will be hard.

I would definitely accept Michael B. Jordan taking up the mantle. I like M'Baku too, but I don't see them going that way. I don't mind Shuri being the Black Panther like in the comics, but she seems set on her own path already and I'd prefer she stick to it rather than trying to fill someone else's shoes. Though, as you say, could make an interesting storyline.
I'm so glad it isn't my job to make this sort of decision. I don't even like thinking about it, but my mind keeps coming back to it as I wrap my head around what just happened.
