"Order table four. One cured salmon, one carpaccio scallops, one..... chef? Chef!?..."
Blackness.
Then a voice in the darkness.
"Bugger!!!"
.....
Then you are being Reincarnated, into another body. One of your choosing.
Interestingly the body you are being placed into had a similar interest in cooking. He was a fellow cook, that resonance pulls you together. Your memories fade, you know you came from another world, you remember the cooking techniques and recipes from that other world, but that is it.
The rest is... Noxis.
Born in the Blue-Winter Forests. The wood elves who lived there protected the small village of reindeer-kin where you grew up. Their magics protecting the area from the ogres, goblins, trolls and other monsters that wander in the wilds. They taught you cooking and magic. Their forest magic was so like yours that you were never unwelcome in their homes.
But their lessons were never enough. Not their magic lessons, for they were such masters you couldn't learn everything in a dozen life times. Cooking however was another matter. Their cooking whilst good didn't speak to you. You knew there was more to learn so you left the forests.
Humans were at first wary of you, finding work wasn't easy but with your cooking skills and magic you managed to get by. Human cooking was different by region, the spices and warmth of the desert tribes, the rice and fish dishes of the Ontoset region. You even risked entering the capital of the Eternal Empire to learn the extravagance and finery of their cuisine.
Everywhere you went you picked up new recipes, new techniques and new ideas.
You were on your way to the dwarven city of Stonespire to learn from the Dwarves when you came across a problem.
A hungry dragon, and the caravan you were traveling with was apparently on the menu, pre dinner conversation was apparently not.
You lay in the ruins of a wagon, waiting for the hot breath that would signal your end when you heard a voice. It offered you your life and knowledge of recipes from an entirely new world. In return you would be merged with a soul from that other world, and would be given 'information' from time to time.
What you did with that information was up to you.
You agreed as the dragon nosed aside the roof of the wagon, it was either that or find out what a dragons digestive tract looked like.
So here you are, lying in a forest, somewhere, a new man or is it a new men? You have your pack, your clothes and most importantly your life.
Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life.

Such a strange encounter and such a turn of event, the young chef thought to himself. He had always been quite an adept of cuisine and all cooking things, but to be offered the knowledge of food from another world, that was quite passing strange, if not a bit weird, and whats most, by a dragon! He was even surprise that he would survive such an encounter, but full glad he was that he did, because the dead don't cook...or at least, not to his knowledge.
Too bad the people of the caravan didn't survive...regaining his senses, he stood, still shocked to be alive, but nontheless glad for it as he looked around, calling for any survivors that might have escaped the dragon's appetite.
-Anyone still alive? Hello?-
He called, walking out of the debris and trying to find other from the caravan. He didn't feel much different, apart from the extra knowledge that he suddenly had from that other world, he couldn't quite get how that all fitted in his brain, but apparently it did.

You look around for survivors and realise that there is no debris around, or survivors, or signs of a dragon.
Apparently moving you was easier than moving a dragon and probably less likely to result in an upset dragon (which normally results in a dead everything else).
The only thing you can see is a book, lying next to where your pack is laying.
The book is titled: Uncle Susan's Bumper Book Of Alchemy.

Confused, Noxis cratched his head for a moment. Did he bumped his head that hard? Shaking his head, he let out a sigh but then take notice of the book lying near his things. Tilting his head to the side with a curious look, he walks to it and pick it up.
-Alchemy? Uncle Susan?-
He muttered while looking at the book. Picking his backpack up on his back, he think it might be better to look at the book once he makes sure he is in a safe spot and thus proceed to look around for a way out of the forest or at least a spot where he knows he won't be disturbing any wanna be predators.

You look around, the trees look like the forests you had been travelling though to get to Stonespire.
Stonespire was at the start of the mountains to the north of the forest. You can figure out which way north is based on the position of the Sun over an hour or so.
Or you could try to get to the tops of the trees to see if there is anything about.

After deliberating with himself for a moment, maybe a higher vantage point would give him a better idea of his surroundings. Using his magic abilities, he grew vines around his feet to support him and lift him up above the trees, giving him a better view of his surroundings.

You lift yourself up high into the air a tree growing beneath your feet, just as you practiced so many times. This time however feels different, like you are doing this for the first time.
Of course that makes no sense, you have done this dozens of times, but still the feeling persists.
It continues as your eyes take in your surroundings. The colours feel slightly off of course they are not but it's a nagging sensation that has no justification behind it.
There is a mountain range off in the distance and the forest seems to butt up against it. You get the vague impression of a particular mountain that seems to have a wall around it.
In the far distance behind you just over the horizon you can see smoke rising.
You could probably reach either place with a days travel.

Strange unfamiliar sensation that made no sense kept washing over him, even though he had been doing these things for as long as he could remember, there were still some things that seems to keep nagging him, as if something was off...well, it might be due to the strange request the dragon made of him, the soul thingy he told him about. He could think on it later, for now, he could see the mountain where he was headed before, Stonepire was it?
Getting back to the ground, he got down on all four and started running in the direction of the mountain, hoping to reach it soon and find a good place to have a look at that book he found, quite the curiosity actually.

You make the decision travel toward the mountain, it will be a long journey but that was where you were headed anyway and the sun is warm, the sky is blue and the tree under you is... a blur?
A blur pulling you into it?!
A blur pulling you into it. Through it. Through it's root network, passing you from root to root, tree to tree, then up and out to the top of another tree?!?
Which you kinda weren't expecting, hence the tumbling and falling to the ground at the bottom of a large oak tree at the edge of the forest.
And once again you have a wonderful view of the sky.

The next event could mostly be described as a blurr and a bucket full of confusion as he was sent flying? Tumbling? Around a network of branches and trees only to find himself thrown out and landing somewhat miracoulously intact on the ground, his gaze fixed upon once again, a vast blue sky.
-What the...?-
He said quite confused as he slowly got back up, making sure he didn't break anything in the fall, once assessing he was still whole, his eyes wandered around to try and figure where he now was. He realised he was at the edge of the forest, but on which side?

Sitting up from the litter of broken branches and scattered leaves you, look around the area.
You are at the edge of the forest in a patch of dirty and brush. In front of you are fields and after them a small town that seems to be surrounding the foot of a small mountain. A large wall appears to separate the town from the mountain like a defensive barrier but from what you can see the wall appears to be to defend the town from the mountain, their stairs and battlements all pointing iinward.
The fields between you and the city were clearly once farm land, no longer. Weeds now grow in the fields and the dirt shows a hint of black, the crops in them apparently having been put to the torch. It is a sad sight and a disturbing one, as without the fields the residents of the city would have to rely on their famous underground green houses.
It is a city under siege but from the people you can see at the edge of the town the ones besieging it are dwarves and humans.
You are clearly at the dwarven city of Stonespire. It is equally clear that something odd is going on.

-Oh my...what happened here?-
He wondered looking upon the burnt fields. He felt bad about them, those poor crops didn't deserve such an awful end. Up ahead was the city of Stonespire, where he was originally headed, he had wanted to see any of the local delicacies and cooking but it seemed like this was probably not the greatest of time for it, but perhaps he could be of help. Restoring those fields maybe? But he didn't want to act rashly either, they would probably not take too kindly to some random stranger playing witchy in their lands. Especially dwarves.
So instead, he decided to make his way to the town outside the wall and see what was going on. Once arrived, he would look for the closest Inn if there was any, that was the best place to start gathering informations after all, and a good meal would do wonder after all that had happened.

There are dwarves and humans abound here, though an abnormnal number of them are guards or well armed adventurers. A few look at you curiously, apparently beast kin are not common around here.
“Aye, the Ragged Flagon is just down there.” Says a robust looking dwarven woman with a friendly smile, her hair plaited to keep it out of her face. Dwarves are famously practical and even her dark blue robe looks uncomplicated and made for purpose.
She points you down a road and you follow her directions toward a wooden building on the corner of two muddy roads.
Upon entering the inn you are greeted by the sight of a few people eating at tables with some servers in between the tables and a human woman behind the bar. She has long sandy coloured hair also tied back in a plait (apparently quite fashionable in the city) with a white smock and apron.
She gives you a smile of greeting and waits.

Of course he would get the usual looking at once entering a town. Beast kin were not so common around, especially one traveling. But he wanted to learn more about every culture's cooking and dwarven's was on the menu today, if of course they'd let him. The situation here though seemed somewhat dire.
Thankin the dwarven woman, he headed to the Inn and stepped inside, minding his horns on the way. First thing first before getting informations, it would do him good to order food and drink as a patron and make friendly with the owner. So he headed to a free table and waited for a server to come see him. He'd order the house's specialty and a good mead, whatever they'd recommend. In the meantime, he would observe the people around, maybe that would give him an idea on the state of the city.

A serving maid quickly comes up to your table, takes your order and brings you over mead and some roast boar with vegetables.
The mead is every bit as good as you have heard. Dwarven mead is famed throughout the world and though it was expensive, it is extremely good. You can imagine a number of recipes you could adapt to include the mead as a component. Red wine was traditional for red meat, but....
You hardly hear the server explaining that mead and the usual ingredients have gone up in price since the goblins invaded and took Stonespire as your mind whirls with possibilities.
The roast boar with vegetables is as honest and hearty as dwarven cooking gets. Its a traditional dwarven dish and you can tell the chef is a dwarf. The tend to avoid complicated food and just make things that fill the stomach and comfort the soul. Nothing complicated, just delicious flavour.
You quickly get the idea that despite the owner being human this is a dwarf tavern as most of the patrons are dwarves. The noise in the tavern is loud and cheerful though with it being lunch time most of them are just enjoying a mug and some food before going back to work.
The talk is all focused on one topic, getting the goblins out of their city. The smiths talk about armour and weapons, the guards talk about adventurers who have been into the ciity or guards who are sweeping the surrounding area for goblin raiding parties. The dwarves are a good people, but seemingly single minded to a fault.
