Alright, I just found this site and I'm exstatic.
Anyways, I'm starting a game tomorrow night with three PCs, all with minor to little knowledge of Marvel outside what I've told them, some of the cartoons, and the movies. Not much, I know. I've been reading comics off and on all my life, but haven't read as much Marvel as other genres. So, I have little to go on.
I'mm meddling with backstories, timelines and numerous other things for my game, so don't berate me on some of those details, please. Likely I already know. Still, suggestions on anything I mention here would not only be appreciated, but loved. Thanks!
Well, here's a bit of info on my three PCs:
Kiki. Kiki is a mutant who was born with many features of a cat, including fur, ears, a tail, etc. She looks like a full on cat person. Her parents were so horrified that they treated her like a family pet instead of a child, though she developed somewhat on her own, thanks to her heightened intelligence. She can't read or write, and knows only bits about the outside world, but she can speak and such, though she does not around her family. She has incredible strength, speed and agility, as well as claws, toughnessm reflexive dodge, etc. Basically she has 7 free stones in Defense at all times. Not bad at all.
William is a Vampire, as in the Blade comics. He was infected after coming over on a ship from England in the early 1700s, when colonies were still tiny and growing. 60-70 years pre revolution. A Vampire came over on his ship as well, and people were dieing of a strange disease or simply going missing. William took good care of his family and was an excellent hunter, and the Vampire saw a strange kinship in the 'predator' and did not want to be alone, so he turned him. William, however, was horrified of what he'd become and refused to hurt humans. He spent some time trying to survive before fleeing into the wilderness and surviving there for about 20 years before putting himself into a voluntary vampiric 'coma'. He awoke 50 years ago when a group of villains discovered a slumbering vampire and attempted to awaken him and harness his power. He awoke and drained them of life. He realiusaed he could survive off of the blood of bad people, and began serving as a sort of vigilante, though he is by far not a good person...yet. He has very high attributes, immortality, enhanced healing, energy drain via blood and one or two other things.
The third is Janet, a mutant pyrokinetic. She discovered her abilities wqhen she was very young but they flared up only when she was very paniced or upset. They were very strong, however. When she was 10 a mysterious organization kidnapped her, and spent the following 5 years doing horrid experiments on her, seemingly obsessed with her blood. She escaped at 15, and has spent the last 5 years trying to control her abilities and surviving from stealing.
Well, thats the cast. Now for my story. Well, the bare bones. Sorry.
The game takes place in NYC, and I decided I wanted to remove a good amount of the A_list Heroes...and here's how.
Earth 2112 is a world much like ours...or it WAS until about 50 years ago, when an alien race known as the Ascendii took it over. Using fear tactics and mind control they either slew or enslaved all of the major heroes and villains to serve them. A group of desperate rebels discovered technology that showed them our Earth, and they began sneaking through and kidnapping our Heroes using advanced technology to make them fight for them. Nobody knows this...they only know people like Captain America, the F4, and similar others are slowly vanishing one by one. This is leaving many of the villains unstopped...until the PCs eventually step up.
NOW for my other overarching plot. It involves blood, cures, infections and...well...the Brotherhood. The Mutant Cure is around in a big way and being used by the government in select individuals, or those who beg for it. Magneto and his ally, Sebastian Shaw (Dun dun DUN!) have discovered that there is a new strain of Mutants who are immune to the cure. They are VERY few and far between, but exist. Janet was kidnapped by the Brotherhood in an attempt to discover the secret of her new Mutant Gene to make his own Mutants free of the cure. However, he discovered that he needed more then just her blood. Using a captured mystic he discovered that she was destined to join with two other individuals...who were exactly what he needed.
So, the Brotherhood staged her escape, and have been watching her for some time. Enter the kitty...I dunno how she escapes or what happens to her family yet, but her blood is the same as Janet's, only with one or two specific strands that complete the immunization if it was taken out. Meanwhile, the Vampire's enzyme can be used to catalyse the DNA in a very interesting way. It will allow it to spread like a disease to some Mutants, making them immune to the cure, and they can also turn it into a dangerous disease for others...curing them. It would spread from one Mutant to another (The ones who don't have the immunization) and cure them. Magneto sees this as a way of finally removing those who have stood in his way for so long. Regrettable, but...to make an omelet, right?
SO...here's how it happens.
Gambit, who serves Magneto at this point, approaches the PCs with his associate, Vincent (Mystique). The players know enough about Gambit OOCly that they'll react well to him. They aren't metagamers, but the fact that hes such a known hero will make them not suspect him at all.
Stark Enterprises has been working on something that, if altered, will allow them to do the work they need on the DNA, though it will take some time (Hence allowing the storyline to fade into the background for now and pop up down the road when the PCs are stronger and the players more sure of themselves). Gambit offers the PCs something they each want. The Pyro gets a device that will allow her to harness and control her fire for the first time in her life, the vamp gets a serum that will weakn his damage from fiure (Which is why I told him to buy the challenge at less points and didn't tell him why), and I have NO idea what he'll offer the kitty. Information on her real parents? Anything? Suggestions here PLEASE.
They are told that an evil company is building a device at the behest of an unknown individual that will harness the mutant gene and turn it into a destructive disease, killing mutants by the hundreds. The company is a subsidiary of Stark Enterprises that bares no Stark logos, so the PCs won't know until it's too late.
Now, the attack on the device (Which could be harmless, could be a device to help others...whatever) is a decoy for Gambit and Mystqieu to get their hands on the information they really need. In the end, once PCs have taken out guards, destroyed the device, etc they end up -somehow- (Suggestions NEEDED) discovering Gambit and Mystique's real plans, and an epic boss battle ensues. If I misgauged power levels and the PCs wail on the two, then either Quicksilver or my personal fav, Sabretooth, shows up to get the two out of there.
Now the Brotherhood needs time to get begin work on the stuff, and this leaves the PCs with their new toys and abilities. However, I don't know how to keep them together at this point, and where to go. I want numerous adventures as the campaign goes, obviously, involving numerous villains, storylines...etc. I just don't know where to go.
Comments, suggestions, insults? I came up with this during my 30 minute lunch break at work today, and it's my first Marvel game, so please don't be too harsh. Thanks, btw.
