I remember a JLA game WK ran once. I kinda lost my mind and sent him five cads, none are particularly outstanding, but it is memorable, at least for me. Between the three of them, there's a lot of mess going on. He's ready to take on the world, one story at a time, make changes, bring in a brave new world. He's also, at the same time, Superman, burdened with incredible powers that he scarcely knows how to use. Simultaneously burdened with the knowledge that he comes from another planet. And burdened with a massive crush on his coworker, Lois Lane. After defeating the incredible robot of mysterious origin, Metallo, who exposed Superman to his weakness, and after being shut down by his Editor while investigating corruption in Lex Luthor's companies, Clark has his hands more than full, even if he can crush coal into diamonds with them. This includes some Guilty Conscience from a specific rural town that they fought in where many civilians died. Disliked and Shunned by Peers (-2w) John Stewart isn't precisely a likeable person. He happens to be good at what he does, and is very clever, but he can be rude, indifferent and most people get a bad vibe about him. Haunted Past (-3w) Aside from the War, John is from a very rough neighborhood in Detroit, the things that he's seen done, even in his own house, are not good memories. Criminal Record (-1w) John Stewart has a sealed juvenile arrest involving two incidents of drug running and one assault. CostAbilities: 10w Actions: 51w Modifiers: 0w Equipment: 0w Challenges: -11w Total: 50w BioJohn Stewart served in the military right out of high school. His test scores, and ingenuity got him a shot at the marines. He earned the rest through dogged iron willpower. This cleansing of his weakness brought him to the attention of the mysterious forces that protect the Universe. Marked as a potential Green Lantern, John, oblivious, continued his life, using grant money to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Yesterday, however, his life changed, dramatically. A green glow floated into his room announcing "John Stewart, you have the capacity to overcome great fear. You have been selected as the Green Lantern of Sector 2814." Before the glow faded, leaving only a ring. Through a great deal of experimentation, John has managed to deduce it's control mechanism, find his costume and stop a local gang and arms dealer. But will he have what it takes to be a Green Lantern? And what will he do when his trainer, Hal Jordan, comes? Mask of Zorro was a great film. Who doesn't love Antonio Banderas? Unfortuately, the Waynes were not familiar with how much their old neighborhood had changed. They were jumped in an alley by three ruffians. All four of them: Thomas, Martha, Thomas Jr and little 7 year old Bruce, were shot. Bruce was shot in the head and rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent a hemispherectomy. The left half of his brain was removed. He, miraculously survived it. Coming out of his coma nearly six months later, Bruce realized his life could never be the same, and never made any attempt to do so. Throwing himself into one thing, and then another, Bruce found no comfort. No comfort in academics, no comfort in athetics, no comfort in the gaining of social status, or in travel, and he consumed these things in large quantities until his eighteenth birthday. His trust fund became available that very evening and Bruce, surrounded by peers found a bat in his home. Everyone was so scared of it. Walking his then-girlfriend Vicki Vale home, they were attacked. Bruce managed to bluff the villain into leaving using a laser pointer. He then realized his most powerful weapon. Fear. Since then Bruce has cast everything into becoming the most incredible crimefighter known to man. His unparalleled intellect and incredible physicality are focused and honed. He's become the Batman... fear is what he does. For her, fighting is an art form, not to be practiced in solitude and tranquility, as the monks and old chinese masters do, but to be pushed to the edge, and made to break the limits of the imagination. She's been revolutionary for a while, her mother was a very progressive and radical woman, and her training from her uncle Wildcat gave her a love of fighting that has yet to be satiated. When her metagene power was discovered, much was done to keep it covered up, but few can deny that the way in which she is able to fight is nothing short of superhuman. Although a bit unorthodox, her massive training center, a gym/karate dojo, is able to keep her afloat pretty well. She is currently based in Star City. She takes her fighting codename from a poem that was a favorite of her mother's. (4w) Wonder Woman uniform with Golden 'W' symbol (no bonus) ChallengesFish Out of Water (-5w) Diana has little to no knowledge of Man's world and how it operates, things like high-technology, customs and the whole gamut are unknown to her. Stick up for Underdog (-2w) Diana is a very empathic person, and thrives on defending the oppressed and undefended. Superiority Complex (-1w) Diana has a strong urge to think she's better than others, partly due to her upbringing as a princess, partly due to her upbringing in a pseudo-feminist society. CostAbilities: 26w Actions: 10w Modifiers: 2w Equipment: 20w Challenges: -8w Tota: 50w BiosDiana grew up privileged in a very simple land, far from here. On her secluded island, women run society, the old gods are still worshiped and people still wash their clothes at the river. This is when Steve Trevor crashes on her island, and informs her about the brewing war. Chosen as an emissary, Diana journeys to America, befriends several women, and stops Ares from starting World War III by forcing him to truthfully admit that once he is successful, he will no longer exist, as war, destroys even the warmakers. Hailed as a Wonder Woman in the New York Times, Diana attempts to make headway in the new world representing the long-lost country of Themyscira. ========= I think I'm just too into this. At this point, I could still do flash and aquaman... so I'll just stop.

Re: Founding
I am thanking you for the story of your bank fight. Even with great power you are very brave fighting these men. You have most grand ability, Zealot.
I am scared and excited for world. I am very excited for knowing that I am not the only one who feels like other than human. This is not I am less than human, but am not human. I am scared for knowing that there are others as powerful as this one.
Forgive my English. Is not good. Still, understand better than Portugese, yes?
Brazillians? Any Portugese speaking?
Hello. How are you?
These are my first words of English from school. They are not much, but I mean them always when we say them. I am very happy this day, that I have found this site. It is good and it is strange that I have finally found it at just this time. Words, English or Portugese cannot express my happiness.
I will introduce myself to you now, as Menina85, but really am called Olivia. I am living in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil, our world's most beautiful country, no offenses to anyone. It is my birth home, and is being the thing I am only feeling close to here.
I am liking the readings here, and hope to be reading many many more soon! I am not having mine internet, but will read much soon. You all have such great thinkings!
Re: The (Un)Official Vigilanteeism Discussion
I am little knowing of this Daredevil, though I am knowing of Batman from his movie with most gorgeous Christian Bale. I have great liking for these movies, but these are men who are limited, They have only hands and feet. If what I read here is real, and we are being who we are saying, we are capable of making laws as just as breaking them.
Please be forgiving of my English.
Re: Life by D&D Rules
I am taking this test! It is calling me Chaotic Lawful. What does this mean?

I am having just such a one! I am not making shapes and turning into water, like these ones, I am moving water inside me. I can feel it sometimes! I am also vaporing water on my body making me breathe underwater and swimming very fast. Speedboats are losing the races of me!
Bonus, I am strong in water!
Please help! Anyone!
I am very very sad. My sadness is without end. For first time my non human being has made me hurt. I do not deserve to live longer than right now.
Today, I have been walking home and was attacked by a friend from work. He was grabbing and pulling in evil ways. I was scared and tired and hurt and angry, I'm thinking. I reached out for vapor him... he did not vapor, only shriveling, like an old man. He then made coughing moves with no sounds.
I am very sad. He needs jail. He does not need this. Please pray for Juan Fey. He is being in the Care Intensive now.
What should I do?

Mutant (-3) Human Looking Mutant, vulnerable to human prejudice
Overachiever (-3) Jean Grey has to get the best grades and everything has to be ideal and perfect. Period.
Vulnerable Loved Ones who don't know (-2) Jean loves her parents very dearly, but she can't let them know about her ability, or about the true nature of the school. They would go ballistic.
Persona
Jean Grey is studious, disciplined and relatively headstrong. She has her own thoughts and likes to speak them, often passionately. She is grounded, notably naive/sheltered and subtly insecure about her appearance. She cares, on a very grassroots level, about people. She believes, intrinsically, that people should help people.
Bio
Dr. John Grey is a colleague of Charles Xavier's at Empire State University. Dr. Grey and his wife, Elise did everything in their power to make their little girl a Marvel. They put her on the swim team, she played little league soccer, the debate team, they took her horseback riding, anything to make her uncanny. Unfortunately, when Jean was 8, her fiend died, slowly, of Lukeimia and Jean fell into a deep state of depression, there didn't seem to be anything that could be done.
Until Charles Xavier stepped in, recognizing the similarities with his own first bursts of telepathy, Xavier offered to use philosophy to help the child. With no other options, Dr. Grey consented and Xavier was able to use his abilities to "cap off" and otherwise shut down her abilities for the time being. Without the burdensome thoughts, feelings and perceptions of others, Jean returned to a semblance of normalcy. Jean, like her parents, believes that this was due to what Xavier said to her, as opposed to any telepathy going on.
Before long, with school and activities in full swing, Jean began to devleop a certain drive, notably, to be all that her parents had imagined her to be. She enjoyed their pride, she enjoyed the challenge that came with doing things that were supposedly impossible. She was always told her schedule was too full, her classes were too advanced, her body was too tired. She loved breaking others' doubts of her ability. But most of all, Jean loved the control that she had over her life and her future.
And then her powers slowly began to come back -- but at a leisurely pace, frightening her at first, but seeming natural eventually. Jean, well aware of what it is she is and what that means, hides her ability, often disregarding it completely. She's already special... a mutant gift, or others knowing her secret, would only complicate things. She still plans to be a physician and researcher and save lives.

Parents Don’t Know she has abilities (-1w) Compassionate aka “Underdog” (-2w) Guilty Concience (Abortion Last Year) (-2w)
Short History Naomi is from two sets of Jamaican immigrants. They work hard, they give her a lot of commands, but rarely do they ever do anything with or about her. Until recently, Naomi would sneak and hide her actions from her parents. Now she simply doesn’t care what they have to say.
If Naomi’s parents were paying attention she’d probably be in trouble for hanging out too often too late with too many boys. An unflappable flirt and hungry for attention Naomi lives her life looking for a good time, and she almost always finds it, occasionally at the expense of others. Notably her three ex-boyfriends over the past two years which despise her existence.
Naomi has lived in Walton-on-Thames for most of her life, and is relatively recognizable amongst the young people there. She lives right on the river on Hillrise. She spends most of her evenings at clubs and the dance hall, and most of her days sleeping in class.
Recently she’s been able to see people’s ‘energy’ when she gets close to them. She doesn’t know what else to call it, but it’s as though she has an extra sense that tells her how ‘full’ people are or how ‘tired’ they are. She can take this energy and either use it, or even give it to others. She skims the energy of others to party all night and function the next day… sometimes she doesn’t sleep for a whole week.
Notes: Well, that's my idea... non combat as the dickens, an excellent support character. I wikied Walton-on-Thames to get some visual. Only thing I'm curious about is how the school systems are over there... I don't think it's called "High School" honestly... but other than that, I've got a vivacious flirtatious character that I certainly like... I wanted to do a black girl, and from what I understand Jamaicans are more common than any other dark-skinned people...

Revised Biography:
Vekka Owaniyi is a red-skinned Twi’lek of a Lethan clan, born on Ryloth, the Twi’lek homeworld. She is the fourth of what would become 13 children as the eldest girl, the child of two fast-track-to-success members of society. After being identified as Force-sensitive, was taken from her parents and brought to Coruscant to be trained as a Jedi at the Jedi Temple. As a youngling, Vekka was inducted into the Katarn Clan, where he trained under Master Yoda.
As a youngling, her adventurous spirit and desire for more: more information, more approval and, arguably, more power, gained her innumerable acquaintances, a few talking-tos and a reputation as a very non-traditional Twi’lek student. Intense, while dedicated, and needing to be cautioned about overdoing unneccesary tasks.
Regardless of her shortcomings, Vekka resolved to learn a little bit from as many different people as possible. A few lightsaber moves here, an ancient tenet of the Jedi code there, and many genuine attempts to better herself in the hopes that she might be of service to the galaxy later. She eventually caught the attention of a jedi master and has been adopted as a Padawan, constructing a yellow lightsaber, signifying her balance between the raw force and the skilled saber.
Vekka is presently fourteen years old.
Revised Notes
This is what I've got. I re-read the main thread, changed her challenges to milk the jedi code less, put her in a youngling clan, and well, I'm unable to find what personality developing activities a youngling might participate in, so I bascially had her personal to evolve naturally out of her situation.
I wish I knew more about what you expected from the padawan character, so that I could serve that purpose more directly. I rasied her age to better accomodate the grittyness. I was very interested in your comments on force powers and the lightsaber.

Persona A bit more arrogant than is justified, a bit snarky and far too confident for his own good. T'Chava is a showboat and egotist, with a lot to prove, and while he seems generally gallant and good natured, his integrity and deepest principles have yet to be seriously tested.
Bio The youngest of five children, T'Chava wasn't even going to be the Wakandan Royal Family's last try at having a male child, but they were lucky. T'Chava has grown up between being priviledged and being spoiled, with his often consumed father intervening to try and shoulder him with immense responsibility, typically involving a lot of physical training, which T'Chava was only passably successful in, as interested in the grooming for kingship as Simba from the Lion King.
T'Chava is, in many respects, a momma's boy, and when he reaches high school age, he asks to be sent to Xavier's school, where he's been attending for the past two years.

Persona
Venus is a bit of a shapeshifter, personality wise. In truth, she has a great deal of gleaned wisdom and a sort of detatchment from the things that happen around her. However, her first notion is to her duty, as a ninja, kunoichi and shinobi. As such, she often finds herself being whomever she needs to be. With Leo she is an empathic confidant, with Raph a sarcastic sparring partner, with Mike she's playfully silly and with Don, she's is curious and full of wonder. With her teachers, Splinter and IChing she is a dilligent quiet student. In combat, she is coldly, almost cruelly professional, and it is perhaps her truest self, oddly enough. When all the turtles are together, even if she is right in the middle of everything, she hardly feels there sometimes. She knows that the erraticness of her expressions and seeming detached nature otherwise may make her seem crazy. In truth, she wishes she had enough heart to be crazy.
History
Venus was raised in a secluded kunoichi house in the mountains of Japan. Early on her ability to master very old, very unnatural arts was discovered by her master IChing. Though she was often ostracised from her peers due to her inhuman nature, this gave her more time to master harnessing the energy that flowed through her and channel it into something palpable... and deadly. Even though she was trained in the theatrical kunoichi arts just like her 'sisters,' she only went on missions where she was not to be seen. She was however, exposed to the world, and the nature of traditional ninja society from an early age, and was considered an equal in skill, if not in societal standing. It was only on her master's deathbed that she learned of her true origin, and the existance of others like her. While the rest of her sisters continued to develop and take missions, she set upon her own journey, to locate her brothers.

I made up a new action to approximate a magical action that might be used by a Biblical prophet. If you don't like it, or want any changes made, just let me know, but I think it's balanced very well against the other magical actions. That panel delay balances everything.

Holy MagicCL = AN + 2 murpg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=custom&action=display&thread=10607&page=1Users of this magical action may have special calling from a powerful God, a gift of the Holy Spirit, or devotion to a Holy order. As an agent or semi-avatar of this deity, heroes with Holy Magic are able to revitalize, revive and repair any object or entity, teleport themselves or other objects mysteriously, hide the appearance of themselves of others, summon powerful angels that approximate telekinetic and light effects. Characters who possess this action are not necessarily the most moral or spiritual representatives of their deity or order, however, they are, invariably, the most dedicated, and typically have some purpose or destiny that is not immediately clear. Features: - All effects take effect the following panel - Can Repair any object, spend stones as healing against health or against damge dealt to object (GM determined). - Hide presence, as invisibility, spend stones for area and duration, 'anchor' moves at will - Function as teleportation, spend stones for weight and range. - Pacify, functions as fear, spend stones for area, duration and stones of effect - Can create any natural substance, spend stones for area/volume, hardness. Substance is permanent. - Can Summon Photokinetic Telekinetic Beings or Effects, spend stones for weight, duration, area, hardness, and stones of effect. - AN acts as Modifier for Magical Healing. - AN acts as Magical Defense Modifier. - Does not require Mastery of Magic to purchase. - Cannot be used along with any other Magical action. Options: Meditation (+1 to CL) - Can build up an additional AN stones of effect by taking an additional panel and spending the stones in that panel, creating 2 panels worth of effect in a single panel. Life Mission (+1 to CL )- Can Substitute up to AN stones for any ability (spend stones for duration) Spiritual Gifts (+1 to CL) - Can Combine with Any Action. Stones for action must be spent following panel to coincide with effect. Can add effects of unbought options to actions for 1 red stone/cost level. Cannot add duration to actions, effect lasts as long as action does. Pay additional 1 CL if this can help others. Backfires (-1 to CL) - When used to perform selfish acts, Holy Magic has negative side effects of equal effect number. (GM determined) Notes: While not the most potent Magical action, it has the benefit of combining magical travel, healing and widespread masteries into one action. I think that keeps it balanced, under the assumption, of course, that other magical actions are balanced. Considering the luck and planning needed to make the panel delay work, I'd guess they are. It's just that danged duration that makes everything so extensive. =============== Green Lantern 2814.2 Blue Lantern 2814 Amy Wu-Xing Human Female 17 Years Old Black Hair, Brown Eyes 5'6" 128 lbs Blue Lantern, Student AbilitiesInt: 7i Str: 1 Agi: 2 Spd: 1 Dur: 2 ActionsGeneral Knowledge: 5 - Intelligence Bonus - Chinese Interest - Life Sciences - International Law - Quantum Physics - Superhero Community Social Skills: 5 - Academic Community - High School - Chinese - Debate - Inspiration Mastery of Kung fu: 2 - Intelligence and Weapon Bonus - Crane Style - Tiger Style ModifiersPhotogrpahic Memory Mental Defense: +5 Fear Defense: (+2) (GL version) Great Hope (Destiny Force, BL Version) Green Lantern Ring (GL Version) Green Lantern: 10 -2x Action Number free red stones/Panel -Force Blast, 2x damage, AP -Unlimited Create/Manipulate Green Energy -Manipulate Matter/Energy -Self Contained Life Form -Limited Teleport at GM discretion up to AN -Universal Translation -General Knowledge at AN -Energy Battery at AN -Free Force Field at AN[No AP, No 2x dmg] -Useless without device -Must be periodically recharged every 250 stones of use, including stones of Flight. Undisciplined (-1w) - Richard doesn't know how or when to shut up. Proud (-1w) - Richard thinks he's the bees knees, that everyone likes him and that he is more or less invincible. BackgroundRichard John Grayson is the son of Mary and John Grayson, two of the most proficient circus performers in the world. A husband and wife team, their synergy is absolutely incredible, and has been the comment of many a critic and observer. It is not an exaggeration then to say that Richard John Grayson has been tumbling and flying through the air before he was even born. As a child, Richard grew up traveling in the circus. While not always the best place for a child to grow up in, the members of Haley's Circus made their best efforts to look out for the young Grayson. A village truly did raise this child. A naturally curious and precocious youth, Grayson learned constantly, from circus tricks to business basics, to how to change a flat tire. And acrobatics, oh, the acrobatics. When he ways nine years old, Richard Grayson joined his parents on the trapeeze, as part of the flying Graysons. Of course, at first, he would just perform a simple maneuver, usually low to the ground. There were always concerns about putting the minor in danger, but to Richard, there was no danger. Not as good as he was, and certainly not with his parents around. His father continued to train him for strength, and teach him responsibility for his actions. His mother constantly expressed and demonstrated how valuable he was, as a son, as an acrobat, and as a person. They were, despite giving him more freedom than he could typically handle, and putting him under the constant pressure they had grown used to, good parents. By the time Richard was twelve, he, in many ways, ran the circus. He was familiar with all the performers and even with many of their regular collaborators, carnies, cirque du soleil performers, and hotel employees of cities they visit once or twice per year. There are two notable highlights of Grayson's pre-teen life. One is working out with the Cirque Du Soleil troop, impressing all of the performers, despite his age, and having a lot of gorgeous women. The second occurred last year in Gotham City, where he met Alice Pleasance at a hotel where the nearest campsite was out of reasonable commute to the Big Top. Her parents were in town looking for work and it was the first time he had talked to someone his age and they hadn't seemed... dumb. After dark, Richard snuck out of his room, and convinced her to do the same. They spent much of the evening hanging out by the pool and sneaking around being silly. When they were found the next morning passed out on the couch in the lobby, they were both in immense trouble. He was still able to pull of the triple aerial later that evening, though, and he's been hard to 'control' since. Currently, Richard continues to work with his parents, and is known as a prodigy in the circus industry. He has acquaintances all over the country, and is proud and free spirited. His tongue is quick and his reflexes are quicker. For all intents and purposes, he can fly, and he knows it. The sky may or may not be the limit.

Well, that's a bit of an understatement. She is the poster child of nice girls, which is probably what keeps her so aloof. Her small town upbringing, folksy way of talking, throwback values and naive way of thinking don't help much on that front. They do make her one of the most compassionate folk around, though, willing to go through anything to help someone in need. Most of her childhood was spent working on a farm, swimming in the river, singing at church and working around the house, with her mother, her most trusted adviser. As a person of faith, Charity believes strongly that a life well lived is the best reward one can gain, and strives to do so at all times. This doesn't make her necessarily good at heart, but she does strive to keep certain negative things to herself, which leads to a lot of her internal conflict. Before heading off to school, Charity was given a special gift after a dream. Though she had always been fortunate in some way or another, it was then her supernatural calling became crystal clear, and terrifying in it's scope. She was to go to a place full of suffering and raw unbridled evil and find good there. She has her work more than cut off from her! NotesI think the energy battery slant on her abilities makes her pretty weak, and she lacks some of the more esoteric abilities I had originally intended her to have, but overall, I like her. We'll see how this turns out. I know people don't usually go with the whole Destiny Force, but it seemed the most appropriate way to show the providence that this character is supposed to experience. It's fine if you ignore it for the most part, it's a weird thing I'm not sure how to GM myself, honestly. Any questions?

My only experience with the Destiny Force was when a very bad player (Poor design, poor play, poor roleplay, poor typing skills) took it, so it's not favorite in my mind. The GM in that game didn't touch it as far as I could tell, probably spent most of his time cringing at the player's posts which oozed incompetence.
The problem with the Destiny Force is that it's Lifeguard without the player control and requesting a lather of GM love.

It is... me and the GM for that game had a good talk about what Destiny Force involves. Like the Phoenix Force though, it gives the GM an additional tool to do what they'd like with the character and through them, the rest of the team. For a GM who uses it, it can be far more beneficial to them than to the player.
It's the one thing, above all, that a GM and Player have to be in agreement on before the game starts. It fits the character well since they are supposed to be the beneficiary of an all-powerful though unpredictable, but long-term benevolent God. Nothing else even comes close, though I did think about just going the Good Luck route.

She has a strap and can be carried over the shoulder or in a bag in non-combat situations. Doesn't Appear Human (4w) - Whatever form she takes, whether her holographic projection or speaking through any number of computers, JAVELIN doesn't appear human by default, though she is capable of faking it through various illusions as needed. Inability (3w) - By Human standards, JAVELIN, who is unable to move anything directly herself, is disabled. Her only physical abilities involve clinging to and interfacing with technology. Psychological Restriction: Employee of the Decade (3w) - JAVELIN, by design, is dramatically devoted to Tony Stark. She will do anything for him, no questions asked. Power Dangerous to Self (1w) Partly because of the above, JAVELIN is the failsafe device for the Armored Avengers via her EMP, which is her little secret. -16W BACKGROUND JAVELIN is the latest invention from the mind of Tony Stark, an autonomous security and support system that be integrated into any powered armor. Designed to mimic a fiesty college student, JAVELIN takes her work very seriously, but is not above crass humor and over the top demonstrations of prowess to prove a point. Character Picture (but Photoshopped Green or something): bara-chan.deviantart.com/art/070628-cortana-58588238NOTES In short, the ultimate sidekick character, and definitely not along the well beaten path of P.A. characters, eh? I'm pretty sure I exploited some Challenges that didn't need exploiting though. I didn't take Self Contained for free though. At least now she's water proof and doesn't need to recharge! She might be hard to GM for as she has a tendency to pwn powered armor enemies with SI less than 13, but really can't do much on her own if there's no computers around, unless she's basically hijacking a function of someone else's armor. Craziness. Any other PA character I would do would be a mastery type with T1000 like nanomachine armor.

BackgroundLois Joanne Lane was born on American soil in Germany, the child of a career military man Samuel and an artist mother, Ellen. Together they, and Lois' sisters Lucy and Chloe, made a life at Rammstein military base, where the sisters were often put through the paces by a father grooming them for military careers and to be empowered women who knew how to defend themselves and get the job done, no matter the cost. When Ellen got sick, Samuel became more distant, alternating between brutal and neglectful, throwing himself into his work. After she passed, Samuel was promoted to General and the familiy moved back to the United States, just in time for Lois to go to college stateside. Attending prestigious Ivy League schools, she graduated with high honors in history, law and journalism, much to her father's displeasure. Her desire for the truth, for telling stories, like her mother, had won out over all the hard lessons and physical training her father had put her through as a youngster.

So, many years ago, when I first started this thing, I had a character called "The Hype Dimension" which was an entire dimension as an NPC character, a kind of mystical advisor to the heroes, but it was really just my chance to write down a character with all tens and have my friends gawk at the ridiculousness of it.
So here's a more playable spin on that same concept, this time, a character who can't be touched, and can't be seen with the naked eye.
The Hype Force Age: 2,156 yrs old Species: Cosmic Energy Entity - a pulsing amorphous energy blob - Self Contained Life Form for Free - Cannot take Looks non Human challenge Body Color: Orange Active Neuron Color: White Tendril/Hair Color: Yellow
COST 50w: 40w+10w in challenges
ABILITIES ((13w1r))

True Vision: 2 (1w2r) - Phased Objects, Life Energy, Energy Patterns, X-Ray Vision, Telescopic, Microscopic, Magical Auras
CHALLENGES
Compulsion to Stick up for Underdog (-4w) - The Hype Force is a very benevolent entity Elemental Sensitivity, Extreme (-4w) - Antonius Rock emits a radiation that does 1 stone of damage/panel against The Hype Force, whether phased or not up to range: 4. Conflicting Interests: (-2w) - The Hype Force constantly walks the line between the abstract and meditation, and the needs of the material world.
BACKGROUND:
The Hype. Energy in a constant state of flux, bursting into bright color and shape. Volatile. Infinite. Glorious.
Thousands of years ago, the Hype Dimension, a sentient dimension parallel to our own full of pure Hype energy, crossed over into our world, exploring, first in an observational capacity, and then as a scientist. An ancient scientist found a way to cut off the Hype dimension's gateway, but destroyed his civilization in the process, sweeping the vast majority of his people into the Hype itself.
Meanwhile, the severed part of the Hype Dimension slowly came to its senses. Though nowhere near as powerful as it's full body, it has become a force in its own right. Journeying around the world and choosing Emissaries, Avatars and Representatives, the Hype Force has been a force for good throughout the world.
NOTES
Character is min-maxed a bit, especially with the Flight and Telepathy disadvantages, but overall, I think they're a really, REALLY great support character. So what say ye? Would you allow such a character in your game?
I wanted to add General Knowledge and Reconstitute Self to complete the 'package' but that'd have to go on in a higher level game, where a character like this would fit better anyway. Maybe 50 stones, get 2 stones of GK and 8 stones of Reconstitute Self.

Period. This includes her status as a mother, as a girlfriend, as a medical student and indeed, as an X-Man. Rarely is she not stressed. Conflicting Interests (-3w) Jean is a mother of a 6 month old child. One who can talk, and is by all accounts a super genius or savant. This immense responsibility all on its own conflicts with her myriad of other responsibilities. New powers sabotage old relationships (-2w) Jean's Phoenix side gives her improved abilities, but also gives her personality a bit more edge. Her temper can be sharp, and her paranoia can be deep, and she generally feels she's putting her family in danger with her own presence. Control Others House RuleJean must spend enough stones each panel to exceed the characters Intelligence & Mental Defense (rather than just beating it once and maintaining control for 1 red thereafter), and SitMods build up against her the more she forces her opponents to do things they wouldn't normally be inclined to do. Jean and Nathan PersonaJean Grey is studious, disciplined and headstrong. She has her own thoughts and likes to speak them, often passionately. Since she has had her first child, Jean has become incredibly grounded, though still occasionally naive and subtly insecure about her appearance, especially some stubborn weight since she's had Nathan. She cares, on a very grassroots level, about people. She believes, intrinsically, that people should help people. BiographyDr. She was already special... a mutant gift, or others knowing her secret, would only complicate things. She still planned to be a physician and researcher and save lives, after all. Her study of mutancy would not go to waste however, as she was invited to be a part of Xavier's school, something not easily overlooked. X-Man HistoryAfter enrolling in Xavier's school, Jean was handpicked for Professor Charles Xavier's special class. Here she learned to be an X-Man, training in the danger room in a variety of unique situations, designed to test her resolve and skills, as well as train her to act in the field. Introduced to the world of mutancy she had once only read about, Jean slowly developed a rapport and attraction with her teammate and leader Scott Summers, although neither seemed to act upon these feelings explicitly. She also met with several mutant on "The Hill" most notably, Magneto, whom she learned later was Professor X's brother. While investigating Charles' files, including a strange carrier wave in her own mind, Jean Grey was attacked and captured by Magneto, who had crippled Xavier only moments before. With teacher Cain Marko also betraying the X-Men, Jean barely managed to free herself before Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants escaped. Jean also helped the X-Men rescue Elixir from the Savage Land, as well as face Sauron, both there, and in the strange Mojoverse, though none of the students explicitly remember the latter. While still adjusting to her newfound responsibilities and role in the world, Jean helped welcome new students, Warren and Ororo to the mansion, and began actively dating Cyclops, despite Warren's pursuits. After nearly half a year as an X-Man, Jean began to develop some real experience as a superhero. She would need this experience, as she set a trap for the mercenary Wolverine with her teammates, and it became more and more clear to her that the nagging feeling in the back of her mind had a will of its own. While its pleadings and violent tendencies didn't control her directly, its presence pushed her to take more desperate and dramatic actions than she normally would. Perhaps the most dramatic to date occurred on a trip to the future. After the team was knocked into an alternate reality by a ripple in the time-space continuum, Jean found herself swept up by the Phoenix Force into the air, to parts unknown. Her teammates were forced to conclude by the intensity of the explosion and her lack of return, that she had died somehow. The truth, however, was that she had been taken by ancient mythical being known as Apocalypse, who used her body in his pursuit of returning to the natural world. For two years she was a servant of Apocalypse, a time she does not explicitly remember. Fortunately, she was discovered by the X-Men again, who were in deep space, in the Shi'ar Empire at the time. While she was able to return to Earth with her friends, she wasn't able to quite claim a normal semblance of her life. Not only was the Phoenix Force seemingly irrepressible at the time, but she was pregnant, with a child that was biologically Scott's. Dramatically, but bravely, Jean decided to use all of her powers to internalize and mute the Phoenix Force, leaving her without either, and able to concentrate fully and safely on raising her son, and going to Medical School. Jean Grey - Personal ThemeSave the Hero - Beyonce Phoenix - Epic ThemeJean's New RoomRoommate: Nathan Christopher Dayspring Summers Jean's new dorm room is more like a small apartment, more reminiscent of a loft than a bedroom. Hers has been further modified, one bed completely removed, to accommodate her child, and that area replaced with a wooden crib, complete with a tricked out mobile and a changing table nearby. Next to the table were Jean's bookshelves, one on top of the other, filled with textbooks from Medical School, as well as just about everything authoritative written on mutancy in the past five years. Then there's Jean's bed, just below a wide window with light blue curtains, overlooking the front entrance to the campus from the side. Jean had purposefully taken take the furthest room down the hall to mitigate the disturbance of Nathan's crying. Jean's bed looked exceptionally fluffy in an off-white comforter with light blue sheets, pinstriped in black, to match the runner around the bottom of the bed, hiding her exercise gadgets, the kind you get on infomercials and don't use nearly as often as the guy said you would, as well as her shoe and hat containers, depending on which side of the bed she came after. Continuing around the room, her closet has two levels, a lower level, with all her clothing for the season, which isn't a whole lot, but enough to fill a row in a closet. Above that is another row of hangers and a shelf, which contains all of Nathan's clothes and things, many of them bought by Nathan's grandparents. Next to the closet is Jean's desk, where she does a great deal of her work and studying, it is an office-style desk, in Oak, a gift from Professor Xavier. It has a stack of books neatly to the right and her LCD monitor at a 135 degree angle to the left. In the middle, below glass, is her yearly calendar, using her special method, she writes on the glass so that she can see her notes on the calendar, then cleans the glass. The appointment and date stays in her memory, and her calendar stays crisp and protected, and her desk stays clean. Next to her desk is her other closet, which has random things such as her ironing board, vacuum cleaner, winter coat and such. The door to the room is next to this and next to it is the pantry, which leads to a modest shotgun kitchen, which ends in a bathroom with a standing shower. While one side of the kitchen has the pantry, countertop, and stove, the other has the fridge and an open bar type counter, so that she can, ostensibly, cook, and still look and see Nathan in his playpen, if it's in the middle of the floor, instead of it's usual place next to the hammock on the outside of the kitchen, which is really there for when Scott falls asleep holding Nathan. Next to that is the dresser with all of Nathan's toys, which was next to the crib. It's a small place, but for Jean, it's home, and, in some ways, it's the safest place in the world.

3 Secrets and a Surprise15 months ago...Jean Grey walked slowly down a long island street. A familiar one, as she tightly clenched her hands. She had been gone for years, and had just gotten out of the hospital recently. They had crashed on their return, and it was ugly. She had made it out alive, and Scott too. Now came the scary part. Opening her gate. She could see the scratches she had made in it as a child, crashing her bike. Painted over, the paint now cracking and fading around the gash. She could see the lawn, more grown than usual, and... the door was new. She was about to knock on the door when she caught a glance of something in the window. A little white cross... with her name on it. Jeanette Mathilda Grey 20X2 - 20Z0 ...nd God shall wipe all tears from their eyes... She hesitated. A different person, a younger Jean would have turned away. Avoided the pain, the awkwardness. This Jean was different, and she wasn't sure how, but she wasn't afraid, not nearly. Just... uncomfortable. She rung the doorbell and hung her hands at her sides taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly, but she caught it as the door cracked. A woman with more gray hair than Jean remembered answered the door, in her faded blue apron, her readjusting her glasses. "Hello, may I..."There was a long pause. It was as if the woman didn't know how to react, didn't believe what she was seeing or maybe just didn't care. "Hello, mom. I have a lot to talk to you about. May I come in?" Jean gave the gentlest smile she could, but that was not enough to keep the woman from fainting. Quickly, instinctively, Jean reached out and caught her mother gently with telekinesis, unlocking the door from the inside at the same time, she walked into the house. "Elaine, who is it?" Her father's voice came from upstairs, and it caused her heart to race. What would he say, what would he think? Jean quickly moved her mother to the living room and set her on the couch. Just as she let go, John Grey came around the corner, looking first at the open door, then at his 20 year old daughter. "J... Jean?"---- A few minutes later the three Greys sat quietly around their living room. John Grey was the first to speak up after Elaine had finally reawakened. "I... I can't believe it's you Jeanie... Xavier's School contacted us, and told us that you had gone missing during a camping trip." He looked at her, still amazed, still somehow skeptical. "We waited for a long time."Jean nodded slowly as she frowned. If she had died, they'd never know. Never know a thing. WHY She died. That wasn't fair, wasn't right. She looked to her mother who frowned. The elder Grey woman smoothed her skirt as a whistle in the kitchen went off. "I'm... going to go get the tea.""Wait." Jean almost blurted out, she looked back and forth between her parents. "I have something to tell you. Something very important." They looked at her for a long moment, their faces drawn and weary. She was a ghost to them, they had let her go, and now, she was here. "I'm..." she sighed loudly and took another breath. "I'm a mutant, mommy."Elaine Grey actually laughed. "A mutant? Is that what happened to you for the past two years, you've been hiding from everyone as a mutant?"Jean bit her lip. "Let me... I need to show you." She said as she closed her eyes. She dipped into her mothers mind and found the exact location of everything in the kitchen. She, from where she sat, pulled off the hot water, stirred the tea and put it all on a tray and floated it out to the coffee table before them. <<Tea is served.>>"Well damn, Jeannie.""John, your language!""Did you just see that Elaine!?""John, be quiet!" Elaine swiped at her husband, despite him being half way across the room. She turned to her daughter, in amazement. "Jean... how did you do that?"Jean nodded slowly as she poured cups by hand, as she had done in the past when her parents had their intellectual chats, before she was old enough to contribute. "It's called telepathy and telekinesis. I can read and affect the human brain, and I can use as yet uncategorized properties of nature to exert physical force on an object. The glow you see is a side effect of the way light diffuses through those fields. Each telepath has a different one." She handed her dad a cup of tea. He had that pensive lips folded in look when he was thinking something. She walked over to her mother. "Here you go, mom."Without warning, Elaine Grey grabbed her child and wrapped her arms around the girl's neck, bringing her down to the couch with her. Jean was surprised, but she instantly found herself feeling... like she was home. Elaine shook and pulling back, had visible tears coming down her face. "Oh my. Jean, you have grown so much."John nodded slowly as he stirred his tea. "Let the girl up, woman. you're going to suffocate her!""Our daughter's alive, John! I'll smother who I want to!" She retorted, holding Jean by the shoulders and looking her over. "Look at you! You are a woman, now aren't you?"Jean looked down, outright embarrassed. "Yeah... about that..."John took another sip from his tea as he sat down on the couch where Jean had just been, the one next to Jean and Elaine's couch. "Don't tell us you're pregnant now," John chuckled as he wiped up some tea that had spilled over the edge of a cup when Jean's leg had bumped the table. "because we're much to spry to be grandparents."Jean stopped for a long time and looked down. She looked up at her mom in a silent apology. "Oh my god, Jean? Are you pregnant?"Jean looked around the room. She had pondered leaving without that particular announcement. "Uh... yeah."John looked up, almost completely slack jawed, and certainly completely speechless. Elaine looked at her husband with a bit of wonder as she grabbed both of her daughter's hands. "This is wonderful! How far along are you? Is it a boy or girl? Do you have a name yet?" she paused in her excitement, it suddenly becoming quite clear how far from her daughter's personal life she had been. "Who is the father?" "Those scratches..." John intereuppted and gestured to the bruises and cuts on her face still healing from her arrival on Earth. "... who gave them to you."Jean knew how protective her dad could be, and it was bittersweet that his first concern would be domestic abuse. Even with her mutant powers, he was trying to protect her. "I got them in a collision. Hit my head on the dash. Hard. I'm okay though." She turns towards her mother and her mouth can't help but turn up in a smile. "His name is Scott. He's great. He's, um, he's also a mutant, and I met him at Xavier's Academy. He's a great leader, he's a reserve Avenger, actually, and he wants to take care of his child with me."John nodded as he leaned back, crossing his legs at the ankle. "I'd like to meet this young man.""You will, sir." Jean nodded. It was interesting how quickly she fell back into her old habits when he took his academic pose. "He offered to come actually, but I told him I wanted to handle this alone for right now." She smiled, realizing her mother was still holding both of her hands. A few years ago, it would be clingy and annoying, maybe it would be again a few years from now, but right now, it was what she needed. "I'm... 11 weeks in, and, don't know the gender, that's a surprise, but I really like Rachel for a girl.""That's wonderful!" Elaine was beaming. "We're going to be grandparents! John we have to pick names, so we can be cool grandparents! I think I can be called Nana. Yes, yes, that's quite fine. John, what about you? And Jean, you know you're welcome to stay back here at home until you get back on your feet?"Jean gulped. They made it so hard. If they had just slammed the door in her face or not been home, or gone all anti-mutant, she wouldn't have to shut them down, to hurt them. "Actually, I'm going to continue to stay at Xavier's Academy. Professor Xavier is expanding the school to include a Graduate level educational program, and I'm going to be going to Medical School there, after I have the baby, of course."John whistled long and low. "That's a lot to get done, Jeannie. What is the program like?"Jean nodded slowly. They still thought she was in high school, still.. naive? Is that the word for what she was? "Well, there's some distance learning and self directed work, several workshops and lab modules that involve travel and working in a high caliber lab in a single intense seminar-like session. To be honest, the program does take advantage of some unique learning opportunities afforded by both my and Xavier's telepathy." She nodded towards him, a small smile tugged at her lips. He was still looking out for her education. "You know..." he leaned forwards, placing an empty teacup on the table. "I had hoped that you would end up at ESU Medical School."Jean smiled widely, but a bit sadly. She'd have to keep disappointing her parents, it seemed. "I know, daddy."John sighed. Jean could see him sort of letting go. There was a weariness about him. He had wanted so much for her, and it was probably hard to hear that she was doing something different... a lot of things different. "Now, you don't follow that Magneto do you?" Elaine grabbed her daughter by the cheeks and looked her in the eye. "John and I were just talking about that, all the mutants have human parents, so I don't know why they've got anything bad to say about them..."John sighed. "Well lots of people have bad things to say about their parents, dear.""I don't follow Magneto." Jean interjected before an argument could start. Those took forever, and they were always these clinical cynical even toned debates. The real contest was to see which would lose their cool first it seemed. Elaine nodded her approval. "Well good then. Who's up for some cheese and crackers. My daughter is eating for two, now!" Elaine stood up proudly to head to the kitchen and then... everything was suddenly normal. She was.. home. She hadn't been 'home' in a long time, not since Annie died, really. Her mother and father began to debate the merits of mutant registration, a fascinating argument from the non-powered perspective. They could argue it as just theory... they could take opposing sides, just to prove a point. They talked with her about the dangers of living together before marriage, even with a baby involved. They talked about Xavier a lot, and they talked about what they had done with Jean's things. "Hold on..." Elaine ran off and then when up the stairs. John grinned as he leaned back in his big chair. "Well, this will be embarrassing at work tomorrow. I'll have to take memorial service photo down off my office wall. They'll ask 'what happened John?' and, what, 'Sorry guys, false alarm!'" He looked at his daughter and Jean just laughed. It was just the kind of madness her father did best, when he was most comfortable. Jean twisted her fingers a bit. "Why are you guys so comfortable with this? With me being a mutant?"John nodded as he leaned forward. "Jean, one day you'll be a parent, well, you are, actually, and if you lose that child, God forbid, you will do anything to get it back. Anything in the world to get him or her back. If they come back to you as a neanderthal, a ghost, an old photograph... anything, you will love that child, perhaps moreso than ever before, because you know what it's like without them.""Uh... thanks dad." Did he just compare mutants to ghosts? Elaine came down the stairs. "Here it is..." Elaine had something wrapped up in cloth and handed it to Jean. Slowly unwrapping the oddly shaped object, no bigger than a textbook, but much lighter it seemed to be a bunch of newspaper. Paper mache, actually, turning it over, she saw it for what it was. A mask, painted yellow, just as she remembered making it. Just like Marvel Girl's. Jean felt her whole body lurch. It was weird, talking to her parents for the past, what, ten years? They were stilted, overly cerebral and entirely to concerned about her social life. But this... she remembered this, and the feeling she had of just being here and being... home. She looked up at her parents, her eyes watering. "I've... I haven't told you the whole truth yet..." Jean toward her father, as he gave her a wide smile and an arched brow. "Going for the trifecta, Jeanie? I'd think you had run out of big surprises.""I wasn't... here for the past two years." She begins, still wondering how to phrase this or how much to tell. John laughed. "We're aware of that. That's why we've got a cross with your name on it."Elaine turns to her husband quickly, as if surprised. "Oh my, that won't do at all. That will have to go." She grabbed her daughter by the arm. "Tell us, baby. Otherwise you'll be lying for two!" The elder woman put her hand gently on Jean's stomach, earning an embarrassed smile and a sniffle. "I wasn't... on Earth." She looked at them, and they returned the blank tired stares that she had been greeted with, but she had learned her lesson. "I was possessed by this ancient Egyptian mutant monster named Apocalypse who used me to further his plans for universal domination and find this powerful artifact called the M'Kraan Krystal." Jean looked back and forth, with a discontented half smirk. "And yeah, I was in another galaxy, and the scratches I have are from when our ship crashed.""Your ship crashed?" Elaine exclaimed. "Are you alright? Is the baby alright?" And suddenly she was back, this was completely normal, crashing ships. Jean almost laughed. It was two months ago, she was fine, by most standards. "I'm fine, mom. The baby's fine. Everything's fine." She regarded her mother with an odd skeptical look. The woman wasn't concerned about the plausibility of space travel, but just wanted to make sure the baby was okay? "Well... it had better be! Or else I'll get Nick Fury on the line, and he'll show them a thing or two!" Elaine nodded curtly, quite pleased with her intergalactic problem solving skills. "Jean." Her father was very morose as he folded his hands into each other, much like he did with his students at the Empire State. "Apocalypse... as in En Sabah Nur?"Jean's heart stopped, fully. She could feel the blood rush from her face. Was this a trick? Was he here? Had her entire escape been a bad dream? She looked at her dad in fear, unable to speak for a few moments. "You... you know about Apocalypse?"John sighed and nodded slowly. "I did my Dissertation on En Sabah Nur, the forgotten Pharoah, stricken from the records. It took years to defend that." He laughed, taking off his glasses and cleaning them off. " It was Jean's turn to be slack jawed. After a moment her mind collected itself. "Can I see your research?"
