Something that's been bugging me for a while is that Magic is treated differently from Mastery of Elements, but its' results are very similar. I'm thinking of how magic could be expressed in Mastery of Elements terms. Here's what I've got so far:
Mastery of Mana
Special effect: you have an extrordinary versatility in effects, but only half the effect of the stones spent. (If you spend 6 stones, you get a 3-stone effect) Energy Preparation: You can spend energy in one or more "preparation" panels to gain the full effect in the final panel, up to a maximum energy spent equal to twice the action number.
Otherwise treated like any other Mastery of Elements
Schools of Magic
Associated Element: Somewhere between Mastery of Mana and regular Elements, these actions work mostly like Mastery of Elements, save the broad scope of the power, and its' limitation to the Mastery of Magic AN to twice that value, depending on how narrow of a scope it would be and how dependent on raw mana skills it is. (Magcal Transport would be 2x, while Hex spheres would be 1x for high control or 2x for low control, for instance)
I can't see how this would change the feel of magic, and it helps correct some balance issues.

The only chance, to the rules that I see, that I would make to balance out magic is:
Remove the Takes 1 Panel to prepare off of Mastery of Magic (it already gets nerfed with a 6 stone limit) and ADD it to Sorcery (which can do just about anything).
All of the stage magician stuff and normal combat type stuff is in MoM.....so why does it take 2 panels to take place?
