| DESCRIPTION Dismayed at the poverty and social problems of the small town his family had built, Tsaac Christians began to dabble in the occult. Using a ritual he had learned in India, Christians contacted the demon Avarrish and agreed to assume the body of a gargoyle to aid in the capture of Patsy Walker (Hellcat) in exchange for the solution to Christianboro's ills. But when Christians saw that Avarrish and the demonic Six-Fingered Hand had targeted Walker and her fellow Defenders for death, he repented and sided with the Defenders. The price of his betrayal was to be trapped in a gargoyle's body forever. Accepting his lot, Christians aided the Defenders in wresting Christiansboro from demonic control, eventually becoming a Defender himself. An old man beneath the warty hide of Gargoyle, Christians acts as a voice of experience in the group dominated by young mutants. |
