"Into The Breech" A 1 in a Million Event Hey everyone! This thread marks the start of the game, yay! Here you'll find a cut scene that will lead into the first several Issues of play, which will all revolve around the same event: a massive, city-wide shootout between rival gangs.
Here's how it works: Read the cut scene, then just make one post in this thread to describe how your character reacts. Specifically, I need to know where they are and/or where they're going. Then, I'll essentially split the action up into Issue threads, and the game will continue in there.
You don't even have to get involved in this event - it's totally voluntary. Chances are I'll be able to move you into the next issue or come up with an alternate plotline. For those of you who don't have CADs posted yet - don't worry, you probably join late, and if not, there will be plenty of action later, too. ^__^
Now, without further adieu blathering, here comes the cut scene.. good luck! * * * * * * * * * * "This is Heather Mills reporting to you live from Liberty Avenue, where all hell has just broken loose!"That familiar voice belongs to Liberation Cable News' number one correspondent, Heather Mills, who is known for her bravery in the field. She, more than any other reporter, has covered the heroics of the Steel Sentinel over the last several years, fearlessly putting herself as close to the action as possible to bring Liberation citizens - and viewers around the world - the best story. She's even been personally saved by the Sentinel on numerous occasions, but she can't count on his protection this time. No one can. The camerawork is unsteady and zooms in and out of focus, but the sound of screeching tires and rapid gunfire can be heard in the distance - at times, one can just make out the screams of fleeing pedestrians. There is a disturbing absence of police sirens. "Sources say the violence began deep in the Hersh projects late last night, but what would ordinarily be a routine conflict has spiraled out into a city-wide shoot-out this morning! Gun violence and looting have been reported in all districts! Roving bands of armed gang members are moving throughout the city - we just witnessed a drive-by shooting right here on the steps of City Hall!" Her next words are not spoken into the microphone, but are still barely audible: "Jesus, Frank, grow a pair and get a shot of this! Oh for the love of.. I'll do it myself!"There is a scuffle for a moment, and then the camera appears to be set down on the top of a mailbox. Heather Mills appears in the shot: not yet out of her 20s, with flowing curls of natural red hair. She stands just in frame, allowing the audience to get a good look down one of the primary arteries in downtown Baybridge, including the front steps of City Hall. Pedestrians dressed in business attire are still scrambling for cover. "The police are out in full force and a police spokesperson claims that they are getting the situation under control, but -"In the distance behind the daring reporter, a beat-up four-door car suddenly swerves onto the street and begins to barrel straight towards the camera - and Heather Mills herself. As the car approaches, gunfire erupts from the passenger windows in both directions, and the remaining pedestrians hit the sidewalk in desperation. Heather Mills doesn't budge. "- the scene here is still one of pure chaos! With the police in disarray, and without the Steel Sentinel to protect Liberation, who will -"The car surges forward, gaining speed. White hot bullets litter the limestone steps of City Hall with holes. With a grunt, a heavyset cameraman suddenly tackles the slender reporter, sending both of them hurtling off-camera and just barely out of the way of the oncoming car. "Uff! Goddamnit, Frank!" A split-second later, the beaten-up sedan plows into the camera itself, and the feed is lost. LCN cuts to a handsome anchorman wearing a very stunned expression on his face. He blinks once, closes his mouth, and swallows before managing to say "That was.. Heather Mills.. reporting live from downtown Baybridge.. ah.. Thank you for that report, Heather. Our life coverage of this event will continue.."

Sentinel Prime wasn't watching the news at that moment. He had something more important to do... his weekly haircut. But the citizens need not have feared, for Prime always had his finger on the pulse of his city. Or rather, his handlers did...
The text message he got wasn't very specific, so he turned on the TV. Seeing the woman in danger, he smiled and tossed a 100$ bill to the overdone blond who had been doing his hair. Work calls. I'll be back for my mani/pedi as soon as possible. Great work, as always Tracy.
As he stepped outside, he was already assuming his current full size, nearly 90 feet tall, even as his particles were disintegrating and slipping away, reforming where danger called...
Appearing like a titan of mythology, his voice boomed Cease and desist, by order of Sentinel Prime!

Stryker was sitting at home alone and anxious looking as he was about to explode. He was watching the news and listening to his stolen police radio simultaneously waiting. With all the chaos going on someone had to do something and these thugs were no challenge. But someone had to respond and when they did Stryker would begin his course of action... if they looked like a challenge that is.

A1: Watching and waiting evaluating any supers who respond to the chaos to deem how close they are and how much of a challenge would they provide

Shawn was a half an hour out when he got the calls on the pandemonium at home. He had spent the better part of the day on the coast a few hours away. There was a swimsuit photo shoot and he had been invited by the magazine editor to come have lunch and talk business. Code for meet models.
His staff had told him to steer clear of the city, that they had everything covered... but Shawn wasn't going to trust his world to chance. When he told them to expect him in 25 minutes, they put Derek, his head of security on the line. Derek had grown up with Shawn, they were old and fast friends... Derek made it his personal lifes mission to ensure Shawns safety. He did a bang up job, and he was one of the few people on earth, Shawn granted absolute privacy to. He had never once invaded the man private thoughts. He counted on his council as well as his friendship.
"Derek listen. I need you to stop worrying about me and focus your energy on the company. They have to be freaking out. I need you to call in all of the off duty security. Tell them to bring their families."
"Yeah. No problem. Get with Jim in supply, we have enough supplies to last more than a week. Yeah I ran the numbers once myself. Clear out floors 5 and 6... make that 5 through 12. Put the families in there. Get HR busy on things for them to do. Movies... whatever. Figure it out."
"Get a team of ten or twenty guys to help bring families in one at a time if you have to. I dont care how you do it. Just make it work."
"Put Sam back on the phone."
...
...
...
"Sam hey, get with the RnD guys. I sat down to a presentation last week and they showed a bunch of less than lethals. Help Derek set up a perimeter around the building. I'll call the governor and make sure he understands. I want that building as secure as it can be. Call me if they have anything else that can help.
Put Derek back on."
...
"Derek, as soon as your sure the building is secure I want our guys on the streets. I want you to get with the commissioner and find out what we can do. I don't care if our clerks are filling sandbags, when those news cameras are rolling I want CasterCorp all over it. Same goes for the cleanup. I want to push something huge... scholarships for wounded officers... something. Have accounting run me a few proposals within the hour."
And Derek. Be careful."
He was still fifteen minutes from CastorCorp HQ.
He calls out over his microphone, "Hey Marcel. Anyway you can make this thing go any faster?"

Ah, luck was on Yoriko's side today. Only one class, and then she began enjoying one of her favorite things in the world. Flying. It was so wonderful without the dirty ground beneath your feet, the wind whipping through your hair. Going at speeds most cars can't get up to. Oh god it was great...
*RATATATAT!*
What the? Looking down, Yoriko could see the devastation being wrought by fools with guns all over the city. Being new to the city, she didn't know exactly where she was yet, but she figured lives saved are still lives, so with a slight spin to get her on the right angle, she dove towards the ground, pulling up at the last second between two warring parties, making her skin dense enough to make her bullet proof. "Next person who shoots gets a black eye..." She says at the two warring parties... She just hoped they knew of... The Jade Guardian.
(We're not posting actions right?)

Black Out has been doing what he usually does, flying in the clouds. The sound of gunfire reached his ears and he flew down to get a glimpse of what is going on.
He spots the cute red head get tackled by her camera man, the runaway car barely missed both of them.
"Ahhhhh hell, they are right in the middle of the crossfire, here I go again."
I think to myself as I fly down and pick up both the Red Head (what can I say? shes a hottie) and her camera man.
OOC:
Action 1: 3 stones into flight to pick them both up without hurting them.
Action 2: 4 Stones into Blast (just in case any punk "feels lucky"), Then shift 2 stones into defense
Health: 4 Energy: 17/25 Energy Regeneration: 4/per panel
Blast: +5, 2x damage Defense: +4

Jack was up late just working on his new project when he heard the gun shots. They were louder than he thought they would be and the glass in the front of the shop was loud enough on its own as it fell and shattered on the ground. He waited a second putting on his guantlets to go check on the store. There wasn't anyone in the dark store front, but he could heard the wind and the racing of tires as another car sped down the street bullets flying from its passengers like directed rain. He kept his head down. don't get yourself shot Jack, that should be a top ten rule... he thought. He checked the time 3am he'd been at the shop since 10pm when he came in after closing, which wasn't really all that odd for him. I'd better get back to work. he went back to finishing his projects. He was ready for some field testing, but had only limited experiance with his projects. In his head he knew what he wanted them to do...but the first few times never worked exactly right. He still remembers firing off the guantlets the first time. He felt like his arms would be ripped out of their sockets as he lost control and almost couldn't deactivate them. He spent more time in the planning phases now, but there was nothing like a live fire exercise! When he finished, now early in the morning, he set atop the roof and prepared for takeoff. "Guantlets..Check, Awesome new experimental forcefield belt...Check" he thumbed the activation button at the buckle and the power system hummed to life. "Hopefully controlled explosion on my back...check." he felt and heard the rumble from the jetpack he'd fashioned with its' throttles in his hands. He was as ready as an experimental takeoff and rumble with some of this citys' worst. If what he had seen on the news while he finished was any indication this was going to be a bad day for someone. Hopefully it wouldn't turn out bad for that hot reporter.
From the roof he could see his apartment down the block. The local electronic shop was right across the street from the mall in Kingsway and in the early light he hoped his friends wouldn't be going in to work today over at the comic shop. When he took off he was going to patrol Kingsway first and make sure the people here were ok before going to see if that reporter was ok. From the roof he couldn't tell if it was just the two cars rolling through the neighborhoods or if the all out gang war had made its way to the small time arena. =============== Regen: 3 Health: 2/2 Energy: 25/25
Action 1: 3 into Flight (Limited Manueverablility, 2 shifted to effect of hoping not to blow a hole in the roof of his work. 1 to get up into the air and start flying.)
Action 2: 3 stones into intelligence looking for the gangs.

Dr. Moseley was hard at work concocting the serums that would help other peoples lives when an assistant came running in with the news. Thank goodness it was his lunch hour, he had some time to help before he had to get back to work. Filling his assistant and partner on the specifics of what he was given, he bounds off, seemingly to the local taco hut but really to an alley to take his shirt off and get suited up. Hopefully unseen.
Changing, Big Man was ready to rock.
Just changing my clothes and using whatever intelligence is needed to be discreet.

Angel didn't give a flip about City Hall.
What matters is the Hersh, she thought. And Gil.
Gil Blaine had said he'd be staying late in the offices, getting the last few details of the youth camp sewed up and ready. he was taking 7 inner city youths to the Philmont camp for a bonding experience. And getting together THIS particular group (Angel liked to call them "The Seven Dwarfs, Sin-Style") was difficult, at best.
He's all alone at the office, and this stuff is s'posed to've began there. She knew she alone couldn't END it. That was a job for someone like Prime, or one of the other big guns. But she could get her tail down to the shelter, and make sure Gil and his helpers were okay. Knowing the locals, they wouldn't be too kind to an "outsider."
She donned her kevlar, strapped on the knives, and secreted away her piece. She was assuming she wouldn't have to use it. Hopefully, she knew some of the perps involved and could talk them down.
If not... Well, she knew enough to be ready.

OOC: Heading from her apartment to downtown Hersh. Preparing for the worst.

The tiny, but tidy, apartment, almost entirely decorated in white, appeared to be a haven of peace compared to what happened outside on the streets of the Hersh. Ami stood at the window, following the chaos on the streets. ”<Maybe I should go out there and help. There are people suffering who do not deserve it.>*” she said to herself. One of the three other Amis, who sat on the couch, following the television program, turned her head and replied: ”<No, I should not. I would only give myself away.>” ”<Indeed, I should stay in here, monitor the news and the streets and hope no situation arises that really calls for my immediate attention.>” the third one threw in her two cents, while admiring the brave Heather Mills on TV. Only to provoke an outburst from Ami #4, who was busy playing with her handheld console, not paying attention to anything: ”<I should really be quiet! I am down to my last life!> Ess Tee Eff You, noob!” ”<But the protector of this city is gone! And the local law enforcement does not seem to be up the task of ending these riots!>” Window-Ami continued. ”<And I am? Be realistic! There is nothing I can do besides getting a bystander or two out of the way. There are others who are more qualified to interfere here. Like… Sentinel Prime! He can do it!>” came the inevitable reply from the couch.
At that moment, the car on TV could be seen, plowing into the camera right before the feed was lost.
Heather-admiring-Ami jumped up and shouted: ”No! Heather!!” Simultaneously, Gaming-Ami jumped up, too, shouting: ”No! Mario!!” earning her a nasty look from her other selves. ”<What? I lost my last life.> Tee Age Ex. A lot.” Grumbling, she sat down again, starting the game once more. The other three looked at one another, before silently resuming their respective monitoring stations at the TV and window again. ”<Just to make it clear, the moment I see something out there that I can handle, I will help.>” Window-Ami stated. The TV-twins nodded their heads. Only Gaming-Ami said: ”<To hell with that. I will rescue the princess.>”
