Not that I have most of my fundamentals out of the way I’m getting into the good stuff like building computers, servers, and programming them. I work with allot of really smart people. Most of my instructors worked for places like the FBI, NASA, NSA, and so on. It really keeps me on my toes because now I know these are the kinds of people I will be competing with on the job market. Fifteen college hours keeps me reading constantly, but some of the stuff is really fune.
Just now I finished with my Web design class, and it’s crazy what you can just do with a note pad program. So, I actually put a page up, and put it on the web. Of course, the server I put it on has everything locked down to prevent students from cheating, but our final projects will be public.
This gets me to the Final Project several months from now. We’re supposed to make a really good web site for the final. I’ve seen the work of the graduates from this class, and wow. So, I’m trying to get up ideas for web sites now. I know the MURPG board is never short for entertaining ideas. If there’s any kind of comic, or gameplay idea we’ve been working on but the MURPG site can’t handle this may be the chance to branch off into something different from the norm.

It's refreshing to see when someone finds something they genuinely enjoy doing enough to go after it. For me it seems like a an incredible rarity to find something that I enjoy enough to do, and that is useful or valuable to do (I don't have any trouble getting motivated to screw around). I hope your classes stay fascinating to you.

If your looking for something that has to do with Marvel and murpg, then you could do a complete world creation website. I don't know how much you're looking to do but still. When I did my final project for web design I built my own site for designing well web sites. Granted that was a few years ago when people were really using hard codes and not wysiwyg editors.
But from what I see and hear now basic design is dead and you need to know the other languages. ASP .NET and the background coding. Right now the big things are coding wordpress and joomla.

I just remembered an idea I had a while back. There was a an idea for a social networking site that served as a database for roleplayers. You know so gamers and gm's could find each other more easly. People do this with other social networking sites all the time, but I haven't seen one yet that specializes in roleplay

theres been many different sites that did something like that. I don't think any of them really lasted though.

Hm. I aced my Web Design Final.
Oh, you want us to help give you ideas?! Clearly good ideas are not something I have in abundance. When I have one, I can't afford to share it.

How are you with Java and Flash? I would love to see someone make an app that would allow you to create a visual pad for moving stones and taking your turn & another app that allows you to have a map and chatroom. This would be a fantastic way to play an online RPG & you could easily play any effort based RPG, or nearly any RPG if you add a dice roller.

I'm trying to Learn Flash and Java on what little free time I have, but I am primarly learning XHTML for college. Trust me though that is an idea I'm working on. I'm hoping to make something that's allot easier for online gamers that isn't MMO.

There are cool downloadable products for online RPG gamers, but making one that is totally browser based would be awesome.

the biggest difference there is that having a web site that would do it would require a server to run it off of, unless all the players downloaded the program and it ran off of a peer to peer connection or something.

Very true but the server load would be coperable to a multiplayer flash game, and the fact that you would have a server means that you could make a community around the program very easily.

I could set up a server, and I plan on doing so when I have the money. Of course the only programs I would keep on it would be the bare minumum to run my site. It decreases the attack surface for security reasons. As a CIS major I'm taking Internetworking, and I've had a couple of security classes. I would definantly read up on it more before making my site public though.
