She undertook a rigorous physical training program that increased her strength, endurance, and agility, and she practiced such criminal skills as the design and history of safes, lock-picking, and martial arts such as karate. Donning a costume to conceal her identity, she set out to seek her fortune as the Black Cat. Her early escapades brought her into conflict with Spider-Man. She fell for the adventurous web-slinger and teamed up with him to save New York City from nuclear blackmail in a war between Doctor Octopus and Owl. As a result of her heroic actions, she was pardoned for her previous crimes.
