www.herohq.com/xmendestiny#Just found it in my Spam folder. Apparently, there is a new X-men game in production. But what makes it different is that here, we create out own mutant and then play in a storyline where making a "choice" is the key element (in other words- branching paths). I havent been excited by any new X-men game for years, but its about time. I mean, CREATE MY OWN MUTANT?! Why hasnt that been done before (aside from CoX, CO, DCU MMO, Freedom Force via mods or godawful Hero X) ?

I stopped being impressed by the idea of "choice" in a video game about a decade or more ago. Usually "choice" is a codeword for "you can do the good mission where you save people or the bad mission where you don't save people - but either way you're doing the #$*%ing mission and you're going to like it".
Yes, I'm looking at you, Fable.
But I like that it isn't by default about Wolverine, so that's a step in the right direction.

While I agree that basically every "choice" in games always seems to come down to whether or not you want to be a jerk, I still find some of the games that use the mechanic to be a lot of fun. Dragon Age Origins was awesome. By contrast, I recently got Fable II and returned it less than 24 hours later, because it sucked.

I think there's potential to do it well, but I haven't played a game that gets it right yet. Mass Effect depressed me in its simplicity. Some missions and decisions felt like they were riding a grey area - do I kill this guy to save a life, or do I risk everyone involved by trying to negotiate? Do I turn in a horrible criminal or do I look the other way while he helps me - and then once he's done helping me, do I turn him in anyway? Tough choices, and it seems you could come at them from a number of different angles - but the game either awards you good guy points or bad guy points, as though there is a definitive, quantifiable judgment.
Ah well. I've done this rant here before, I think. ^__^ As always, I have my fingers crossed that it'll be awesome.

Its just branching paths, which means you can side either with Xavier or Magneto. No, its not a fact, I just know it'll be something like that. It does have this "Bioware Good/Evil" stench from a mile (even if its made by Activision... and someone just lost all faith when I said it). Im more interrested in customization options above everything else. Creating your own superhero (or "just" mutant) is like, eveyones dream come true that nobody thought for so many years.

Aren't all these games just about aiming a controller and pushing buttons at the right times in order to get to the next challenge of having to move your hand around some more until you get carpal tunnel and an epileptic seizure?
I say that because the little video on that website told me squat about what playing the new X-MEN video game would actually be like. (Unless it would be like looking at silouettes while listening to a bald man talk at you.)

Well on some level thats what all video games are. For some reason, I find some of them a lot more fun and interesting than others though.

Going by that logic, reading books is just looking through the words and turning pages- doesnt sound fun at all. Its whats coming "along" the good part. Either way, Im still excited about this game, even though I'll never play it couse my PC sucks and I dont have a console Unless my PS2 manages to play yet another one, but even I doubt it.

You have a good point. Sometimes a game is good because it tells a good story. Unfortunately, the game may also require you to be good at hitting buttons in an unnatural fashion in order to get through the story. So what I'd like to know about X-Men Destiny is what challenges I will be posed with in order to get through the story. Feats of manual dexterity? Strategy? Trivia questions? Making choices? How is the game played? The teaser just teases a little about the story's premise. It tells me nothing about what gameplay will be like.

Yeah, I've definitely played a spectrum of different game types, all of which would probably define themselves from an advertising perspective as "role playing games" like this one.

I guess its gonna be action-rpg, kinda like X-men Legends and MUA, but with more emphasis on individual character instead of teamwork. Kinda like Mass Effect or Fallout, but with less freedom (lets be honest- there's only so much freedom you can have from a comic book game).
And pushing buttoms to achieve specific effects can be fun too. There's a reason people like tetris, despite having no story at all.

Yes, but not EVERYBODY likes Tetris. I do though.
Its interesting you should bring up ME and Fallout. For me, that's kind of the issue. I enjoy the play style of Mass Effect, Dragon Age, etc. I loathe the control scheme and play style of Fallout, Fable, and a lot of others. In other words, just because they're theoretically of the same "genre" of game, doesn't mean they'll all have the same level of playability.
The X-Men games you mentioned were great, but a big part of the fun there (for me) was mix-and-matching teams, as much as anything.

Well I think it will be like marvels last 4 games. (ultimet alliance. Ultimat alliance 2, and x men 1 and 2.) where u get a team of like 4 herous and do your tasks using the ability of the hole team to acomplish your tasks. as far had hero creation goes i would not be suprised if it was as simple as picking between 1-5 different options per power. along with most of there powers being the same animations just different effects.
