So is anyone else on the Beta for DCU? What do we think? I need more time to play it, so my nit-picking is reserved for the near future...

My computer wouldn't even run it And anyway, if I were going to pay for an MMO, it would be Old Republic.

My stingyness kicks in. I will certainly give it a shot if/when it goes FTP.
I won't even consider a subscription MMO, there are too many sweet FTP MMOs. I am playing Aloids, LoTRO, and DDO, with DDO being my favorite.
I will be giving Champions online a whirl if I can get a beta invite.

I'd love to give it a try, but I don't have access. I guess you have to preorder to get in the beta?
I'm still beta testing Wakfu, but there have been major delays and the current iteration of the game is virtually unplayable; we've been waiting for the new version since spring. -_-' Not like I have a lot of time to play, anyway.
I've seen some trailers of the gameplay and it looks like any other super hero MMO. I feel conflicted about super hero MMOs: one one hand, I love the idea of playing a super hero in a modern city, far more than, say, a gnome druid or whatever in WoW; on the other hand, being just one of hundreds of thousands of super heroes online at any given time sounds pretty boring to me. Feels like it would take the fun out of being a super hero. I think I'll stick to Wakfu.

Well, I got a new computer recently, so I decided to splurge a little and pre-order it. I played WoW from its launch until early this year, so I'm leary of another pay-to-play, but I wanted this on real bad! And Knights of the Old Republic. Did I mention I got to beta test the Bounty Hunter on that? It was pretty awesome...

Now you're just showing off ;D
How's DCU Online shaping up? I have so many questions about it. Can you play a character based on an existing DC theme (kryptonian, green lantern, flash/speed force, etc?)?

Meh, for my money, I'll stick with Runescape.
This does interesting, I just don't have the time or money to invest in it.
But I might play the free trial when I get the chance. If there is one.

As I'm finishing up a report for Music (un)Appreciation, I haven't had much time to play around with it yet. I've made a character and played thru the intro.
Lex Luthor's let loose modified Brainiac nanites on the world, each containing the stolen powers of Supers collected while heroes duked it out with villains. So normal people become empowered to help in the coming battle.
You choose a mentor (Batman, Superman, Circe, Joker), an iconic character similar to your own style. You choose basic power templates that you expand on later. The design part is very cool, of course, though they're obviously still playing with some of the skins. Not lot more to report for now, sorry!

TWF: If you want to be a Super in a city with fewer heroes, you can run on one of the CoH servers like pinnacle. Very little traffic, so it seems a bit lonely at times, but you'd be da man (so to speak).
CoL is a better game for getting closer to exactly what you want to play, but teaming just isn't as fun. Pretty fun and fast to solo, though I'd prefer more door missions.

I initially wasn't too interested in this when I first found out about its production almost 2 years ago (prior to Champions Online's release), but have been impressed with Sony's relatively recent changes and how the game appears right now. I love CoH until Cryptic left as I felt the game went downhill quickly as NCsoft focused less on story and more on grinds like crafting and in-game economy. Similarly, I was stoked for Champions but realized that it had little replay value as, aside from the two initial crisis zones, every character played through the same missions with no variation. That and I never felt very super.
From what I can gather from DCUO it has action gameplay similar to the Spiderman games with upgradable powers and skills, as well as learned combo attacks. It also appears to have at least 6 unique plot lines for characters to discover, based on their hero/villain mentor.
I'm waiting for a beta invite myself, so I guess we'll see.

I applied for the Beta, but haven't been chosen- yet. Maybe it's cuz I live in Japan.

I think the US release was the 11th. Is that right, has anyone tried it, and if so, is it worth the money? I'm skeptical of games that require periodical subscription fees in general (it's $199 for lifetime access if I recall correctly...). Maybe after a week someone here will have a sense of the money value?
