It doesn't look like a movie tie-in, so that's promising. I think an in-depth Cap game has a lot of potential. The fact that he has a shield, and the way he slings it and fights with it is all pretty unique to this sort of stealth/action game. You could come up with all kinds of fun mechanics for that. I agree with the guy in the video: if it plays somewhere between CoD and Metal Gear Solid, and doesn't try to copy the movie, then it could be great.

What was so amazing about the combat system in AA? It was basically a lot of button-smashing once you got into the actual melee. Are you sure you played this game? In the first five minutes you have a basic mash attack button that you abuse to finish off enemies. I think the second or third waive introduces reaction abilities that you have to do timed button presses to avoid attacks and counter. By the late game it is a ton of dodge and counter, button mashing gets you killed. Now if you said, Dynasty Warriors* was button mashy I would agree. * For the record I enjoy that game, but it is mashy.

Yeah I played it. I got all the way to the part where you're hunting Killer Croc in the sewers beneath Arkham; button smashing worked just fine.
I'm talking about what happens once you're in a fight, not all the sneaking up to people and stuff.
Ultimately I found the game incredibly dull and repetitive, and the payoff to be pretty minimal unless you get off on pretty graphics in cut scenes. The story was weak and predictable at its best points, and the visual style was the worst I've seen in a Batman story since Adam West's pit stains.

Wow WK you covered my feelings on AA almost exactly. What's surprising is I'm nowhere near hunting Killer Croc. I just got passed a Scarecrow boss battle (The one where you first encounter the Skeletons), when I quit playing it. In all honesty it stopped being interesting for me after that point.

Oh me too, but my sons really liked watching me play, so I kept plowing through till I got to the Killer Croc level and just couldn't take it anymore.

Sorry for taking so long to answer your question WK.
But before I answer I want to make sure everyone understands I don't defend the game not only because it would be silly but also because I thought they could have done more. So this is not a "I am right you are wrong" post, just my humble opinion.
What I liked about the "free flow combat system": 1. It looks better than Batman just standing on his two feet throwing punches like the old "beat them up" style. 2. Counters 3. Some attacks look painful 4. You can get a little creative using the bat claw, batarangs, throwing enemies against the others/off the arena and bone breaking (my favorite part of the system) 5. The titans added an extra with the rodeo hits 6. If you timed your attacks you could do more bone breaking more often because each well timed attack counted as 2 hits.

So, basically...
A) Graphics/character movement and B) You actually understood the underlying components of the system, as opposed to fighting games going back to the mid-90's, which had similar setups (well-timed strikes doing more damage, etc).
I guess those things might make for part of a good game, but I won't be impressed until they get rid of the crappy visual style, make the game less repetitive, and for God's sake, write a storyline worth following. I've played much crappier games through to the end because the story hooked me. Arkham Asylum's storyline was pretty clearly based on the premise that video games needn't bother with storylines.

I just want to know if you agree that this the best Batman video game so far. If you say no I will find ways to prove you wrong... I will! Also if you say no give me reasons why so I can start proving you wrong.

Lego: Batman FTW!
Just kidding. I've actually only played Lego Batman and Arkham Asylum that I can recall, so I can't objectively say whether it was the best Batman game ever. It might well be, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. TNA Impact! is the best TNA game ever created, but that doesn't stop it from also being a total piece of crap.
Anyway, my point is simply that if Arkham City offers more of the same from AA, I'm not interested. I felt like AA was too long a game already, as I found myself getting bored with it really quickly. If they can find ways to change stuff up or (and I know its asking a lot) actually put a worthwhile narrative to the game, I might be interested, but my experience with sequels to popular games tells me that its much more likely they'll simply "cut and paste" a bunch of the same crap, just like Halo-Halo 2-Halo 3-Halo Reach and just about every other successful series (and its hard to blame them, considering the amount of epic fail typically met by series that try to change things up between iterations)

Yeah Arkham Asylum was a good system, and started off well, but it got very boring very fast. It turned into "Right let's look for the secret hidden thing, ok now beat up the bad guy, now search again, now trigger the preset sequence of things to get the story moving... yawn."

Well they are toning down on the Detective Mode. They were probably surprised to find that some players had it on the whole time. But I have to wonder... what will they do to make that happen? Also the story is about Harvey Dent gonna kill of Catwoman in order to show who is boss. Also it looks like there is a gang war between Harvey and Joker. It looks like to me the mission is to save Catwoman and stop Two-Face and Joker from taking over Arkham City.

Well theres their first mistake. I'd let Catwoman die.

If that's the case then how they portray Two Face is going to be a factor in whether or not I get this game. I'm not going to pay money to see Two Face acting like a Joker wannabe...I can get that for free with the Batman Forever movie (You know the one with Tommy Lee Jones playing Two Face). It was pretty good when I was growing up, but now I've come to the understanding that they could have put the Joker in that movie and only had to do very little script changes.

Not only that, but Riddler was basically Joker-lite as well, so what we really had was Joker and Joker teaming up.
