Am I the only one who thinks that humanity has actually managed to sink to a new low with this one.

To tell you the truth, I find out that humanity has sunk to a new low every two or three weeks. No surprise here.

Yeah, I saw some ads for that. Good freaking grief. I'm so embarrassed to be human. We are truly revolting creatures.

"Humans are the smartest, and stupidest creatures to ever walk this planet. And hopefully for it, that will ever walk it, as well."

Heinlein said it best... "human beings are rationalizing creatures, not rational ones."

Here in the Netherlands we've had ''Who wants to be marry a milionaire.'' (He turned out to be gay. He just wanted a mother for his baby...) We've had shows were couples fight for expensive weddings. I don't think the plastic surgery is so strange. some people are truly hideous. For some people this sorta thing is a blessing.

For some people, sure. But I have my doubts that any of those people will be on this show. And even if they are, they shouldn't have to compete in a gameshow for the entertainment of others in order to get it. It's sick.
People already have enough body image problems - they don't need this. For that matter, people already have enough dumb values about marriage, and this show isn't helping that any, either.

I want to know if other countries put this kind of crap on TV like we do here in the US.
The sad thing is the idiots of Jersey Shore made more money on their show then many actors and actresses did.

I don't care if a person is genuinely ugly, it's a depraved society that responds to their condition with "You're right, you're completely inadequate, but if you dance like a good little monkey, maybe we'll fix you." This, too. Though I suspect TWF and I may have very different problems with the modern perception of marriage. We had Who Wants To Marry a Millionaire here, as well... and the guy turned out to be a complete cretin (and only barely a millionaire to boot). And then there was the guy who competed on a VH1 dating show, who murdered his girlfriend before the show even aired...

I'm also still bitter that Firefly was replaced by "Bridezillas". This show appears to be a mix of Bridezillas + The Swan. I'm surprised they aren't going to make the winner marry Flavor Flav.
EDIT: I'm being told by a friend that Firefly was replaced with Fastlane, and that Bridezillas was advertised to air, but didn't actually make it to Fox for another year. Einh. I still hate Bridezillas. ^__^

We've got some American crap on our TV too. One of the new ones is a show where parents choose a new boy- or girlfriend for their kid, despite the fact that he or she already has one. Extreme Home Makeover is a good one actually, except in that one case where a man took 3 mortgages on the newly build house he couldn't afford in the first place... MTV has the ex-effect or something. Oh right, we came up with Big Brother. My sincerest apologies for that.

Yeah america took a really bad turn when it came up with "reality television." and since then, it's only gotten worst...
we should expect more stupid stuff that people will ACTUALLY watch. why they watch it? Idk...and in all honesty i've given up on the whole matter...everytime i see a new one pop up, i die a little inside and move on.
Like i said..they're getting worst...in about a year, expect something like this: "Hey america! we've got a new reality show for you! it's about 3 monkeys, and a human being roomates! be sure to watch "my 3 pals" on E! thursdays at 11pm!"
..or something to that stupid effect...

Oddly enough, things like this create a feeling of levity in me.
I gave up hope for us a long time ago. I just started laughing when we do horrible things; not because I want them to happen or because I initially find them funny, but because all of the alternative emotional responses are unappealing.
Getting upset over things I can't control is just a bad way to live, so I laugh at them instead. I still get upset, but I like to hope that the physiological benefits from laughing at least partially cancel out the negative affects of disappointment stress.
I'm looking forward to when one of those contestants gets a botched stitch job. THAT I will find genuinely funny with no need to replace the initial emotional reaction.

I don't think the U.S. is really to blame for inventing reality TV.. it's always been around in some form or another. And though Reality TV really caught on in the U.S. during/after the writer's guild strike, many or most of the hit shows had their start in Europe before spinning off in the U.S. (and elsewhere). ~TWF
