Thought I'd toss this up for any critiques, or ideas to improve upon...?
It was the mid 80's, and the Big Three (Stark Industries, Stane Armories, and Von Doom Technologies) were the recognized leaders of all things technological. With VDT's securing of the title in the Space Race it seemed the company could do no wrong. The trademarked logo was springing up everywhere, and it's name was the talk of the world.
That was, until it's founder and CEO, Victor Von Doom went public-ish as a 'Super-Villain'. The CEO's reputation, and constant media exposure caused the TechnoCorp VDT's stocks to drop drastically... Corporate Pirates began to circle like Vultures, and only the fear of reprisal from Doom himself caused them to hesitate.
One such mogul was different. Perhaps it was his young age, or his Latverian heritage, or perhaps it was just pure greed... none can say for sure, and the question was avoided deftly in subsequent television interviews. All the world knew, as that on April 1st... Kristoff Vernard, at age 20, became the new CEO of one of the worlds largest and most successful TechnoCorps.
The battle was a long, and uphill struggle, but Kristoff worked tirelessly to restore the good name and the faith of the stockholders. He turned the companies focus into technologies that would benefit man on a daily basis~ Shifting from Space and Sub-light Travel to one of Computer Circuitry and Defense Technologies. In 1990, the final ties to Latveria were severed when Kristoff moved the VDT Home Office to NYC. Stocks soared to an all time high, but could not overtake the leaps and bounds StarkTech had sprung. Especially in light of the rivals CEO Tony Stark… and his headline-stealing new head of security~ Iron Man.
In the early 90's VDT came close to overtaking SI once more, but an untimely (and publicized) conflict between Doctor Doom and Iron Man was exploited by Tony Stark at a Press Conference... again leaving Stark Industries seemingly untouchable by even its closest rival.
Kristoff was at a loss. Despite being ahead of Stark in actual Technology... his companies PR was consistently inferior due to the Legacy of Doom. It was then that inspiration struck. They needed a Heroic Icon. But not just any hero, or fool in a costume. VDT needed a Hero with a story. A Hero that had overcome his personal evils... a Hero that could be seen climbing from the darkness, and into the light. Courtesy of VDT. With the support, and belief of VDT.
It was then that he recalled an e-mail. An encrypted message from the unnamed Director of an organization called SHIELD. The e-mail talked of an artifact unearthed towards the end of WWII. An ancient Hammer, comprised of an unidentified metal. Emanating strange radiations, and seemingly impossible to life by any means known to man. Kristoff dug the e-mail out of his archives… and responded.
In the years that had passed, a lab had been built around the strange weapon. Tests had long since been abandoned, and so when Kristoff took over the facility it needed serious upgrades. With some of the most notable scientists in the world working under him, Kristoff came up with a strange theory. An interface device that would allow a cybernetic exo-skeleton to draw power from the hammer’s strange radiation… effectively using the hammer to lift itself.
Of course it was just an idea (Kristoff was at his heart, more an idea man than an implementation man). It took over a year, but in the end~ It worked. Next up, Kristoff had his engineers design a suit of armor, similar in design to Iron Man and Doom’s respective suits… but drawing from Norse Mythologies in it’s styling. The end result? A Thor Suit. The new face of VDT.
Kristoff realized it wouldn’t be enough though. They’d just be seen as copy-cat’s to Stark’s savy genius.
He needed something bigger. Something more than just one man… what he needed was an army. No, a team. Yes. A Team of Heroes. Working for the Greater Good. Defending Freedom and the ‘American’ Way. A team founded funded by VDT. A Team that would serve the people.
A Team Stark would never in his life willingly join, because Kristoff would be it’s leader. Such a public decision would hit his PR very hard. He’d be seen as devoted only to the interests of Stark Industries after all.
The plan was formed, and so was… The Avengers!

CHALLENGES Total (20)
Conflicting Interests 05
CEO of VDT, Leader of the Avengers, Adopted son of Doom
Haunted Past 03
Before Doom's plummet into Villainy, Kristoff was being raised to be his heir. As such
all sorts of Machiavelian Dogma was crammed into his upbringing.
Deadly Enemies 05
As CEO of VDT, Kristoff has plenty of VERY wealth enemies (IE Tony Stark, Stane Armories, etc).
As Thor, he is on his way to making even more...
Extreme Vanity 02
Unlike Tony Stark, Kristoff has publicly owned up to his heroic-identity and embraced
the life... enjoying the PR spin it's given VDT.
Psychological [Envious] 03
Kristoff realizes his Hardware pales in comparison to Iron Man and Doom, and he envies their
cutting edge tech that his Engineers are still working to duplicate or one-up. Given the
opportunity, he would not be above theft/espionage of said individuals' tech
Vulnerable Loved Ones 02
Birth mother is still a resident of Latveria, and in love with Doom despite his indifference
