Quote: go to www.returnergames.com. It's a D&D format for Final Fantasy it's not a D&D format, it's just FF (like in the games) in Pen & Paper...

well, it's not a D&D like FF. It's just a pen & paper FF (just like in the e-games, but in pen n paper)

I'm not really a huge fan of Final Fantasy, but, I have seen Advent Children, and I think that those level 2's in his physical stuff should all be beefed up. That guy dropped hundreds of stories and landed on his feet, no sweat.

What I have learned so far from LANDSLIDE:
To reflect that not everyone can use Materia, Mastery of Materia as an action is a must. While materia is common, if it was always a modifier then fights would quickly become a matter of who has the best materia. (which, unless you are pretty experienced and leveled up your limits with matra magic against the critters in the first forest, thus becoming nigh invincible to any boss, thus making the main game, ergo gil/item/ap aquisition a doddle, is not the case.)
To reflect levels, lines should be invested in M of M to reflect increase in magic use.
Limits. Man. If you want limits, leave them to the GM. I thought for, like, longer than I intended to to come up with a fair way of slotting this into the MURPG way of doing things, and if you want everyone to have a different one, its a no go. I considered the FFX method (setting different ways to build limits) but thats about as practical as a chocolate teapot. The Power Cosmic (cheers sch1sm) is an interesting way of doing it, but with the MURPG stance on health/durability, and the amount of damage taken/shrugged off in a final fantasy game, well, it dosnt work. Sorry to dissapoint, but unless you fundamentally change the system (and I considered swapping energy regen for MP/ether regeneration....woulda been rubbish) it wont gel.
Making up the materia as you go along is wise. Leveling up the Materia is.....not so wise. Leveling up M of M is a good way to bulk up your magic use anyway. Challenge stones spent on "Materia Aptitude (as targeting (consider upping cost by 1 or 2 levels)) is another. More ways arnt really needed, and would prolly be detrimental to the game.
Converting materia, however, is in the main pretty simple.
GREEN MATERIA.
These can usually be substituted for an action fairly easily. Barrier as "Forcefeild" or something. However, a rule that occured to me pretty quick while thinking of different FF possibilities is that any materia that cna be substituted as an action must be the only M of M action per panel. This means that a character can use Close Combat in defense and summon Comet at the same time, but cannot use Fire materia and Cure materia at the same time (as it should be.)
Under this "M of M can only be substituted for 1 peice of materia at a time" rule, green (magic) red (summon) and yellow (command) materia cannot be used in conjunction with eachother. These materia can be used with purple (support) materia or with any modifiers (supplied with the materia equipped or not.)
BLUE MATERIA
Blue materia is nigh pointless in MURPG. attacks can be spread in MURPG (like All Materia), and combined in both attack and defense(Close Combat with Fire M of M).
YELLOW MATERIA
Simillar to green, except that modifiers should be applied a little more liberally.
PURPLE MATERIA
Here lie modifiers. Another fairly simple conversion. HP Plus is White stones, and MP plus is red (the 2 should not be mixed). Longrange could be a Ranged Combat modifier for CC, or simply allowing CC to be used under RC rules (when equipped).
RED MATERIA
The most fun for GMs. Make these up as you go along. Set what they do, put a fixed cost on them, give users a basic outline of what they will do, but cradle the option "At GM discretion" like it was a newborn child. Limits on using these, however, should be obvious. I prefer "once per day" and will be using it often in my "LANDSLIDE" game, but having it randomly be in effect at GM discretion, making it cost the players max energy reserve to use, or any number of stipulations you can think of, could and should be used.
MATERIA
I am limiting use of materia in 2 ways.
1: Mastery of Materia AN is equal to the ammount of materia you may use in battle. (Consider M of M AN x2 being the number of materia you are able to use.
2: In item creation/aquisition, materia slots determined by main weapon and main defensive item. -The easiest way of doing this is deciding which item has the highest modifier number. If a player has a jacket that gives a def+1 and has 4 materia slots, and a bangle that has def+5 and 1 materia slot, then they get 1 materia slot. Choices choices.
Thats all I got so far .

Vincent may or may not be a vampire. He is found in a coffin, but he shows no aversion to sunlight, and he only claims that he has the coffin just to rest and remember his lost love.
2 extra challenges for Vincent: 1) Lost Love (3 stones)- Lucretia 2) Haunted Past (4 stones)

Hello I am willing to take a stab at Sephiroth I have played 7 watched advent and played kingdom hearts I feel I have a pretty good feel him and I will finish by this friday (2-17-06) heres one thought instead of complicating the stats with materia and limit breaks could we stick with integral strengths and powers then add them on as needed that being said I will concern myself with that first then work on the limit breaks. OK so I got done a hell of a lot faster than thought I'll break it down he had 40 stones then got +5 for someone who wants revenge on him (cloud) he is known as a outlaw specifically a murderer think Barret's town so that gives him 3 then he is dead broke which gives him 2 more for a total of 50 thus far. He gets 2 stones for looking inhuman for his eyes hair and skin tone. An additional 8 stones is gained by deadly enemies (+5 for cloud and crew and +3 for shin ra cronies) which gives him 60 stones to work with. So here it is without further ado

Well now we've got some out there Hmm I'm thinking about doing Seifer and Squall(sorry i liked 8 as much as seven) anyway nothing definate and any comments you guys have on sephiroth let me know oh and I dropped the whole materia thing in general. My reasoning for it is a. its just another system to make the game more complex and b. if i had to use it mastery of magic should cover hence the whole handling and using magical items. P.S. good Aeris stats nice job on it anyway looking at sep vs aer its no wonder he well killed her so quick.

I thought Seps stats would be more like this he's not superhuman
Intelligence: 5 Strength: 4 Agility: 4 Speed: 3 Durability: 4 Health: 4 Energy: 12
and no need to have a mastery of magic the materia has its own ex. and would be under equipment like the Green Lantrens ring.
