IntroductionRemy Jean Thériot stood at the gates of the Thériot estate. Clad in a pair of dark slacks with a pale lavender dress shirt and an assortment of pale silver jewelry the young man looked more like a male model than a Voodoo Priest. It had been at least four years since he last walked the grounds of his ancestral home. Even so long ago he could feel the thrum of power that radiated from the mansion. The ground of Thériot Manor was sacred. Dozens of Houngon and Mambos added to its complexity with each lifetime. Beneath his feet he could feel the initiates. Those who guard the Thériot family. He knew as the head of the family a word from him would awaken them to his bidding. Of course in this day and age awakening corpses was never a particularly wise course of action.
Amused at his own musings Remy turned dark chocolate eyes to his new groundskeeper. His voice was rich and deep, slightly flavored with a French tint. “Rinaldao, have five of those stone tables in the cellar brought up and arrange one in each sitting room around the Manner, take care not to damage them. Leaving his groundskeeper to his work Remy strode past the gates and into his domain. Unlike a normal person Remy bypassed the house and headed straight to the woods behind it. Freely exercising his might against any and all whether they deserve it or not.
Geki still bound to the spirit world utilizes a vast array of minions. Usually criminals, cut throats, and bandits the more intelligent or useful servants don a mask in his image | Haunted Past | During a trip from the Northern Water Tribe to the south for a New Moon Celebration Haku and his immediate family were ambushed by a group of strange men bearing masks shaped as spirits. Haku was away being unobtrusive looking for some rare herbs that were rumored to grow in the region. His absence saved his life, he came upon their camp to see his mother struggling to shield her daughter before a masked man ended both their lives with a quick slice. | Guilty Conscience | As the loan survivor of his families massacre Haku is racked by guilt. In conjunction with his interests he blames both himself and his tormentors. Had he not chosen to study healing he may have been there to help his family fight, they may have survived. The logical part of his brain explains that he most likely would have died with his family, given that his father was a powerful bender and still fell to the aggressors. “Shhh, just keep an eye out.” I called back to my friend and partner in our minor criminal acts. I listened to her annoyed muttering with my usual level of attention, zero. The last lock pick I inserted into the door worked its magic and the click of the tumbler falling into place brought a badly muffled squeal of joy for me. As of now this lock was the hardest I had to crack.
“Fidelity locksmith eat your heart out.” I muttered as I waved to Kim and slipped through the door. It was clean and plain. Obviously the curator didn’t waste much on comforts. “Lets see what’s around here.”
“Ro, can we pleaaase go, you got in, take your pictures so we can get back and come up with a dare for the twins.” Kimberly’s voice was more than a little breathy when she mentioned the twins. Mark and Jacob Calahan. Blue eyed, blond haired, and packing muscle from football, soccer, and swimming they were Riverdale High’s pride and joy of the athletic department.. No mean feat in one of the most prestigious private schools in New York. Plus, they were hot.
I’d snapped half a dozen pictures with my iphone while I fantasized about the Twins. Kim and I were thick as thieves, no pun intended, and the boys gravitated to us as much as we did them. This was the latest in our game. Truth or Dare on an epic level. Kim was beginning to do that annoying thing when she hyperventilated, I snapped two more pics and turned to alleviate her suffering.
“Kay, were done.” Kim wasted no time in making her escape. I followed at a more leisurely pace. Kim’s mouse like movements were in total contrast to her appearance. We were both tall and leggy with the right curves In all the right places. But where I was dark chocolate and tinsel white she was sun kissed and ebony tinted.
I watched her twitch and study the surroundings with furtive eyes for five minutes before I sighed. She was simply not cut out for espionage, as I called it. “Kimberly, relax, we got in and out and were fine, now, help me come up with something wicked for our guys.” I called, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
That thought brought my ferrety friend back to her senses. With a squeal of pleasure she moved towards me and we began to plot. “How about we make them wrestle each other, you know their so competitive.” I whispered, I could already tell how they would devolve into childish squabbling, each trying to impress their respective girls. I was a terribly evil person. That’s okay. “Ohh we should make them do it in shorts..or..boxers..or naked!” Kim squealed. Honestly, the girl was a gay man trapped in a women’s body. When it all came down to it, I did love my best friend. It was a sunny day.
“Maybe.” My voice held a current of excitement. The flutter of apprehension that I get whenever I’m doing something I shouldn’t. “But later, I have a Cotillion to attend tonight.”

The dancing hall was absolutely divine. Wreathed in beige and gold tones with soft white gold decorations that filled the room with a warm light. Galerina Giovanni’s Cotillion was the biggest social event on the calendar this year. All of the Higher circle of life in New York was there. As part of Galerina’s age group Ororo had to make an appearance. “These things are so..tedious.” I whispered to the man on my right. He was a handsome man, he had a face that held a deal of charm. It was enough to turn his handicap into an interest. I didn’t pretend I didn’t notice he was in a wheelchair. I glanced at it and his face with an inquiring twitch of my brow. I watched him acknowledge it and steer the conversation to something less personal.
“It’s an excuse to make deals under the guise of formality, perfect really for those sorts.” He said, grinning cheerfully as he extended a hand to me. Most men were surprised with my grip, It was firm and confident, he didn’t seem overly surprised, simply returned with equal pressure. A man’s handshake told you a lot about him. He wasn’t entering the conversation above me but as an equal. I liked him already. I couldn’t tell if he was older, his features and expression made him seem younger, at any rate he was interested, I fell into default, light flirtations through the conversation. “Ororo Munroe, pleased to meet you.” I said in a voice laced with amusement and teasing humor. He replied with as much if not more charm than I had. “Anthony Stark, A pleasure Ms Munroe, a pleasure indeed.”
We chatted about nothing of consequence, yet each topic he approached with a sharp wit and wiry humor. It was intriguing. I would be lying if I said he was hardly the only reason I survive the party with my sanity intact. Unfortunately all good things come to an end. “Ms. Munroe, It is a pleasure to see you again.” Said Wilson Fisk, head of Fisk Enterprises. He was a big man, in height and width, but his expensively cut suit suggested most if not all of his mass was muscle as opposed to fat. I hadn’t ever spoken o him and had no intention to after negotiations between our companies fell apart. Even so I was bound to manners. “Why Mr. Fisk, it is always a treat to see old friends.” I said, my tone and inflection were perfect.
I caught the wealthiest man in the city eying my companion and made my escape. Old men and their machinations bored me. “If you two would excuse me.” I smiled and accepted their farewells with grace and made my way to the terrace. I would have to greet Galerina properly but that would wait. The dancing would begin and I didn’t care to pair with anyone there, if Tony could then perhaps I would have reason.
With a soft sigh I turned my attention to the sky, it was darkening but still light enough to see the clouds. A small smile tugged at my lips as I extended my awareness up and nudged the clouds. Slowly they spun into the shape of a hare, followed by a car and then a motorcycle. I didn’t often use my abilities, if I were truthful with myself they were a little scary. I think if I practice they’ll be less so but..its difficult, considering a temper tantrum results in a miniature hurricane.
“Strange behavior.” A women’s voice startled me and the clouds dissipated. I glanced over my shoulder to see a beautiful blond with impressive bearing, even among the highly bred of the party. “I’m sorry?” I inquired, I kept the faint thrum of apprehension out of my body language. Her lips curled into a predatory smile as a glittering hand flashed toward the sky. She had ice, a lot of it, small pieces that managed to draw attention without seeming gaudy, and they were real. “The clouds, odd behavior for them don’t you think?”
“I wouldn’t know” I lied smoothly. “I’m sorry, have we met?” I stepped forward and extended a hand. The blue eyed blond women grasped my hand with a grip as firm as mine. “No, I’m afraid we haven’t a true shame, My name is Emma, Frost.” Her bearing suggested I should know who she is, and I did, if by name alone. Frost was a powerful cooperation and this women was Head CEO. “Ororo Munroe, A pleasure to meet you” I said without needing to embellish. The women was an idol of mine, Strong, powerful, a ruthless businesswomen in the world of men. She was what I aspired to be.
“That’s quite a trick you know.” She murmured as she stepped next to me and turned her head up. I barely caught myself from freezing at her words. If I wanted to come out of this well I had to play the part. I turned as smoothly as I could and returned to my sky gazing. “What do you mean?” I asked, proud of the steadiness of my voice. Emma proved to be as sharp as her reputation described, if not sharper. We fell into a convoluted conversation centered around ourselves, our habits and personal times, I even found myself divulging some of my less than savory adventures. She never judged, even so our talk was riddled with difficulty. Half answers, deception through omission and flat out topic shifts, we never quite lied but we did everything else between the lines, and we both knew it. It was as strenuous as a business deal but I found myself enjoying it.
“I’m afraid I must be going Ororo, It was truly a joy to meet you.” Emma briefly placed a hand on my wrist. Her eyes were clear and intense as she leaned close and whispered something so soft even I had trouble hearing it. “If you ever wish to talk, please, visit me.” The look she gave me was knowing, and in that instant I knew she knew. I could feel the panic rearing its head, but as she removed her hand and walked into the brilliance of the party it died down.
I needed time to think, I headed back to the party and made the necessary greetings, I danced with a friend of Galerina’s congratulated her, and made my escape as soon as I could. I glanced up to see the sky darkening with storm clouds. I needed to get my mind off what I only assumed Emma knew. Sometimes, it’s only those little lies we tell ourselves get us through the tough times.

“Oh my god Kimberly DUCK!” I barely kept from screaming my lungs out as a large SUV hurtled through the air and crashed into the building we were currently cowering behind. A giant freaking robot was bashing the street to pieces. Massive skeletal robotic machines were firing lasers, hurling objects and generally causing havoc. They were working in concert to reach a man surrounded by a ring of those machines. I was panicking which meant Kim was freaking out big time. Between the gunshots, laser beams and hurtling debris, not to mention the class four winds that were abusing everything around them we were in the absolute worst possible position.
“Kim, lets go, we have to move!” I shouted over the wind and battle, I was tugging on Kim’s arm with a great deal more force than normally, but this was a terrible time to fall apart. I felt a flicker of movement behind us and turned just in time to see the building collapsing around us. My mouth was set to scream along with Kim’s shrieks but thankfully (For my dignity) One of the ridiculous winds choose to gust along and slam the falling debris into the furthest wall. Go mutation.
It seemed like ages but was probably only seconds before the sounds of mortar and brick hitting steel and concrete stopped. Kim and I continued to clutch each other, if asked I’d say my body was in a state of shock, and I’d be half truthful, the other half was the wind still gusting around us. I was fairly sure that was my fault, at the moment I couldn’t care much aside from the fact we were alive.
“Lets get out of here.” I turned and tugged on Kim, this time she came with me. We ran down the block and left the tin man and his crew to whatever was assaulting. We made it halfway down the block before an explosion tore the ground before us and sent us careening into the remnants of the nearest building. We hit the ground with a dull thud and my vision blacked out.

When I woke up I found myself staring at a plain white ceiling. I was lying in a moderately comfortable bed with white curtains surrounding it. The fact that it wasn’t my room made me nervous. The last thing I remembered was running down the street with Kim..”Kim!” I tried to move but my body felt like lead. I could barely move. When I spoke my voice was soft and cracked, it felt as though I hadn’t used it in some time. That along with the absence of my friend spiked my nervous into outright afraid, as had been the norm since I was around fourteen the room dropped in temperature. My breathing speed until I was on the edge of hyperventilation, it painted short grey clouds of warmth in the rapidly chilling room.
The sound of beeping sent a sharp jolt of fear through my heart. Windows rattled as the wind outside picked up into a strong gust. I turned my head until I could see an array of machines. An Iv drip was hooked to my arm and I assume one of them was monitoring my heart. I relaxed slightly, I must be in a hospital of some kind. The rooms temperature stop plummeting but remained somewhere around thirty degrees. I didn’t notice much. I never noticed the cold much anymore, or the heat. I could stand comfortably in the middle of a snowstorm as a heat wave. I attributed it to my mutation.
I heard a faint click as a door beyond my little four walled room opened to admit a series of footsteps. I felt my face settle into a polite mask as I stifled a gasp and worked my way into a sitting position. It was a little awkward to arrange my pillows with a body that felt like it was soaked in concrete crusted clothes. That thought gave me pause..I was wearing one of those unfashionable hospital robe. I pushed away the thoughts that came with that and brushed my hair out of my face with the best speed I could manage.
The curtains were drawn back to reveal a handsome old man with a kind face and a clipboard. I hate doctors. The man had begun speaking about my condition, I was fine just a little banged up and exhausted. After determining that im was fine and discharged already I tuned the man out and turned my thoughts to that day. It was exceedingly rude but I had to decide what was going to happen now. Those things could have easily killed us. I had never felt so helpless in my life and I didn’t like it.
The more I thought about it the more I realized I shouldn’t have to. I was smart, I did everything I could to bale to take care of myself in the world. But that’s the civil world, the world that didn’t have robots, or monsters or whatever else existed. I existed, so that could mean other things did to. Just because I didn’t know didn’t rule it out. Taking a deep breath I smiled to the doctor and pleaded exhaustion. I didn’t have to lie, he took in my state and excused himself. Leaving me to my musings in peace.
It was decided, I was going to do something about my lack of preparation for, admittedly the unforeseen. But now I had seen it, and being anything less than prepared was not acceptable anymore. Kim and I were in a tight spot..no we were dead, somehow we got another chance, and I didn’t intend to waste it.

Sweat poured down my face. I was ten feet in the air, hovering along a strong current of winds amid a small hurricane. The special gymnasium I had built was outfitted for my specific use and the readers were charting the speed and force of the hurricane. I had been practicing for several months now and I’ve only begun getting a grip on my power. In a nutshell, I was freaking epic. I could control the weather to varying degrees. Naturally I built this gym set with ponds and bodies of water, and false atmosphere. I didn’t want to break anything. I had spent the first few months reading up on the weather and how it affected the atmosphere before I started playing around with it.
It was lucky enough I had the resources to do this, however it was unfortunate that the bulk of my abilities were bound to my emotional state..Either way it would be work, but I was fine with that. Nothing worth having is ever easy. The hurricane dissipated with my concentration. I let it go and drifted to the floor for a drink of water. I had done electrical discharge last week and that was a lot more fun and easy than this. But I was anxious to fly around a bit and I had to make sure I wouldn’t screw up and go hurtling to my death.
A faint sound of footsteps drifted to my ears. This facility was well hidden for obvious reasons I even routed the cash and had it ‘officially’ built elsewhere via shipments. Infiltration was not good. As the faint click of what sounded like safety’s being removed I sprang into action. I could feel my awareness expanding, my eyes began to glow as I drew from the moisture in the air, the water from the bodies of water in the corner. I had practiced this at day one. I didn’t know when but I knew one day I’d need cover, and so I created it, thick dense fog rolled from the ground and filled the room. Blanketing it in a grey white gloom. With my eyes I pierced the fog as though it weren’t there. I watched men flood in and drifted through the silence. With footsteps silent from my extracurricular I slipped into a panel and into a bolt room. Specifically made if such a situation occurred.
“Your quite resourceful Ms. Munroe.;” A smooth voice aid from the other end of the hall. I jumped slightly and nearly launched a bolt of lightning or two. It just wasn’t in my to shoot first though. Instead I studied the man. He was about two inches taller than me and shadowed in the room, but non threatening so far. He was still in the way of my escape. “Why thank you, do you mind telling me why your in a private dwelling?” The man stepped forward with a small smile in his voice. “We’ve been watching you, your quite talented you know.” I raised a thinly arched brow. “Creepy stalker aside thank you.” The man didn’t rise to the bait. “I have a proposition for you Ms. Munroe.” Despite my flight or fight instinct the man intrigued me.
