DESCRIPTION Matthew Murdock was the son of a small-time prizefighter who was determined that his son not follow in his footsteps. Though young Murdock promised his father to study hard and do well in school, he also found time for daily work-outs with his father's punching bag and weight equipment. One day, while in college, Murdock saw a truck about to hit a blind man. Hurling himself in front of the truck, Murdock managed to save the man and himself from being struck. However, a canister of radioactive waste materials that the truck was carrying broke open nearby and Murdock was bombarded by radiation. This unknown radiation blinded him but also mutagenically heightened his remaining four senses and granted him an extra-sensory "radar sense". When Murdock's father was gunned down by gangsters for refusing to pretend to lose a prizefight, Murdock fashioned himself a costume and went forth to seek revenge. Catching the two men responsible for his father's death, Murdock decided to continue to use his special skills to battle crime incognito, operating under his childhood nickname, Daredevil.
