Stop them presses! I think I can build LEOPARD for 45 Stones! (It's become my target number for this team.) Gimme a few days. A Leopard equal in power to Lodestone?? I wait with bated breath. You know that feeling you get when you lean way back in a chair and you ALMOST fall but then you just barely catch yourself? Yes, but I moved some old boxes behind my chair and now I let them do the catching... um, but, yeah, I understand. The idea of Osprey with the Power Cosmic gives me that feeling. "Osprey... Herald of Galactus!" And the Shi'ar thought Dark Phoenix was fearsome! That is pretty heady stuff. Secret Wars with the Exemplars? Wow! I have an unnatural obsession for Secret Wars (take a look at my screen name!), and that IS about the time that Mach 1 (Quetzal) was "born" .... Hey, that'd give the Osprey a chance to mingle with Galactus! And save the day!! And have really cool Angel-type wings and a buff physique!!! Hoody-hoo!!!! It's the module that TSR would have published if they only had the chance and the financial savvy to run a company in the first place! Now all I have to do is convert my old Secret Wars MSH module into MURPG stats.... [/quote]

Now all I have to do is convert my old Secret Wars MSH module into MURPG stats.... That module is what got me going on SW in the first place! I ran THE MOST BESTEST campaign outta that module, then a MURPG sequel years later (IRL and in-game) with the survivors on the Battleplanet. ;D ;D ;D

I wrote this one up in a hurry for the sake of your respiration, andalusi. Hope your ER trip went well .... The most important thing here is that he's 45 Stones!!! Check my math (if you can follow my weaving train of thought), but I think I actually managed it. You'll note that he is Invention-free, and that's on purpose. See, I just couldn't afford the, like, 25 Stones cost, so I rationalized that the armor was a one-time flash of brilliance like Spidey's web fluid. (Okay, he's made one or two things since then, but really, he's not the Reed Richards or Hank Pym type.)

DESCRIPTION
Douglas Cook is bright, strong, and not incredibly dextrous. To cure his fumble-fingered nature the bearish bearded man opened an electronics firm with a friend from Lafayette College's business school. The firm has been mildly successful, but not the howling success that he had hoped for: Douglas is a bona-fide genius and intuitive electronics and engineering whiz, but his business sense is confined mainly to theory, while his partner, a grown-up rich kid, has a tendency to overindulge and let the business go.
Working in his spare time to correct his problems, Cook, in a burst of creative energy, created the Linearly Enhanced Operative Power and Agility Research Device: LEOPARD. The LEOPARD appears as a dull-metal suit of armor with a leopard's head, and had special circuitry that allows Doug to manipulate its appearance to be that of a real leopard (the mascot of Lafayette's sports teams).
The armor increases Cook's agility, already high natural strength, and endurance. The suit's protective ability is impressive, and its patented light-absorbing pigments (originally intended for use in vastly improving solar-cell technology) provide further defense against lasers and other light-based attacks. In transforming into the form of a large leopard, it sacrifices its armor (as protective plates move about) and light-reflection ability (alterations in its protective pigments to match fur).
As LEOPARD, Douglas Cook originally operated in the NYC tri-state area, seeking to do good deeds and provide enough cash to keep his electronics shop in business. Soon, however, he became convinced that his entire life had culminated in the invention of the LEOPARD armor, and that his greatest creation should be used for something .... more. Like his business, personal life, and heroic aspirations, however, this conviction just seemed to crawl along listlessly.
Then came the day when he was contacted by the well-known geologist, Danny Paterson. His fellow genius, recently mutated into a powerhouse with sonic powers and taloned feet, had felt a similar call to "something higher". Douglas was recruited that day, along with a hot-headed military super and a young mutant woman, into what Paterson (a.k.a. Mach 1, later to be called Quetzal) believed to be the common bond between the four. He called it a "Calling to Exemplitude", a desire to stand out as a shining example to the new young heroes appearing in the world. The four became the first Exemplars, and though others followed, Doug Cook always felt a special kinship with those first members. An unfailing friend, a source of good companionship, bad jokes, and shaky financial advice, and a world-class genius with the wide-eyed optimism of perpetual youth, the man who became LEOPARD will be the strong babkbone of the Exemplars through any troubles that come their way.

Oo! Oooo! Hey, andalusi! I just had a thought about your Secret Loser Wars idea! Ya know how there were 20 heroes in the original? Well, trust me, there were. Including Magneto, but not Spider-Woman. Or Lockheed. Anyway, with only seven Exemplars, if you need to bulk up your character count (and don't plan on using any of the original participants), you could flesh out some of the examples from the Ultimate Powers Book. I didn't personally bother with these guys because they were so skeletal, but skimming the UPB could yield you such undiscovered raw talent as "The alien hero Sukupp" (pg. 23) and "Orlando the Furious" (pg. 26) (whose power is .... gettin' mad), as well as classics like RALPH 3000 and Ursus who show up on the first ten pages of that venerable tome. Just a thought.

Even if Osprey's total stones add up to far fewer than the rest of the team, he could still be a valuable addition. It all depends on how he is played. And anyone with his nerve would make a wonderful spokesman or leader for your ragtag crew of motley tatterdemalion wildflowers!
