"There is no death, there is only The force..."
- From the Jedi Code
It has been 50 years since the Battle of Yavin. Those 50 years have been full of turmoil and struggle, seemingly a never-ending state in the galaxy. Immediately following the death of Emperor Palpatine, his chief advisor, Sate Pestage, surrendered Coruscant to the Rebel Alliance, and the Galactic Republic was reborn from the ashes of the Empire.
For 10 years the Republic prospered. Luke Skywalker became the Master of a new Jedi Order, one less dogmatic and more dedicated to the needs of the people. This did not always make them popular with the Republic Senate, who felt that the Jedi should renew their close relationship with the government, but Luke was adamant that should never happen again.
Meanwhile, the Solo's, Han and Leia, had three Jedi children of their own; twins Jacen & Jaina, and younger brother Anakin. Though their births were heralded as evidence that the Force was renewed and that the Jedi would live on for another generation, none truly understood what the Solo children would come to mean.
A decade after it's apparent destruction, the Empire returned under the leadership of a brilliant Grand Admiral named Thrawn, and a claimant to the Imperial Throne known as Baron Soontir Fel. With help from Thrawn, Fel established a new Empire, first in the Unknown Regions, and then gaining a strong foothold as it made its way inexorably toward the heart of the galaxy, and reclaiming Coruscant itself.
The Republic and the Empire fought a bloody civil war, but it didn't last long, for soon both were forced to unite against a common enemy in the form of the invading Yuuzhan Vong. A formerly unknown lifeform, seemingly separate from, and immune to, the Force itself, the Vong believed that all technology was blasphemy, but their bio-organic equipment allowed them to dominate in battle after battle for over 10 years, before they were finally defeated and, having given their word, retreated to the living planet Zonoma Sekot.
The Republic was in shambles, the Jedi Order decimated. Only a deal with the Empire staved off another endless war. Soontir Fel assumed the throne of the Galactic Empire once more. He was an honorable man, and allowed the Republic Senate to remain as the civil governments of their worlds, he had sworn, though the Imperial Moffs were given military command of all Imperial worlds.
Fel's son, Jagged, had fallen in love with Jain Solo during the war, and he now convinced her to bring the Jedi into the service of the Empire. Luke Skywalker refused, instead leading the bulk of the Jedi Order into exile, but some remained, and renamed themselves the Imperial Knights. This new Order serve as the personal bodyguard of the Galactic Emperor, as well as his special forces.
Meanwhile, Jacen Solo traveled the Galaxy, supposedly learning the Force Techniques of all of the disparate Force Traditions. When he returned he was different. He assassinated Luke Skywalker and his wife, Callista, and attempted to murder their infant son Ben. Only the intervention of Anakin Solo, arguably the most powerful living Jedi now that Luke was gone, stopped Jacen, who retreated once again into deep space.
Despite his youth, Anakin became the leader of the Jedi Order in Exile, protecting his infant cousin and keeping his fellow Jedi safe so that they might one day return with enough strength to protect the innocent in spite of the Empire and it's own Knights.
Jacen, however, had only launched the first volley in a new war. He re-fashioned himself as Darth Caedus, the Lord of a new Sith Order, and began kidnapping, brainwashing, and training Force Sensitive youths from around the Galaxy. Soon his Sith numbered in the dozens, then the hundreds. Not since the days of Darth Sidious has the Force been so in jeopardy of being eclipsed entirely by the Dark Side.
Now, with a Sith invasion looming, the Empire is searching desperately for the Jedi in exile, hoping against hope that they might know a way to stop the tide of darkness that is sweeping the galaxy...
