P.S. I hope I'm not annoying you with my nitpicking. I find your write-ups very valuable, and I intend on using them with my own small modifications for what I consider more accurate details, so I'm very glad that you are posting them. I changed The Comedians challenge to "Pretends to be Amoral," does that sound correct? I'm very new to the game, but very familiar with "Watchmen" and the Charlton characters on whom they are based.

I gave Doctor Manhattan this challenge: "Inherently Passive Due to Precognition +?"
(No idea what the + should be.)

If anyone has stats for the 1960s Blue Beetle (the character on whom Nite Owl and his Owlship were based), just take those and knock 'em down physically. Offhand, without a book to look at, I'd say Nite Owl's Ability scores are:
Int 5 or 6 Str 1 Agi 2 Spd 2 Dur 2
Some kind of gadget-inventing ability, ornithology, avionics, engineering, aeronautics, and vehicles skills. Exhibited some proficiency in martial arts in an alleyway scene.
Challenges: corrective lenses necessary, self-doubt, overweight, shy.
Anybody good at this stuff?
P.S. Wow, I can't believe I was actually helpful and you altered your write-ups! By the way, your work is excellent. I'd consider modifying The Comedian's intelligence, though: remember, he was the only one at the Crimebusters' meeting who was able to see the big picture (i.e., nuclear war imminent)--not even Ozymandias realized until The Comedian jumpstarted things for him. So, insightful, clever, skilled tactician (managed to defeat Ozymandias in hand-to-hand combat) & politician--I'd say we're in "Gifted" territory.

In terms of stats, the second Nite Owl really ought to be the smartest main character aside from Ozymandias and Manhattan (though in his case it may have been as much precognition an cosmic awareness as anything else). I can’t really say I see why Rorschach warrants a five in intelligence (surprising accurate paranoia aside, he was arguably the least intelligent main character) but I agree with Vic that a five or six sounds about right for Nite Owl.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read Watchmen and all the significant stuff that I can think of that would be relevant in terms of his actions (His Inventing, his Contributions to Ornithological magazines, ect) have already been covered by Vic. I don’t recall him exhibiting any acrobatic skills but the character he was based on (the Ted Kord incarnation of Blue Beetle) had them so I could see giving him that too. Then again, he was so out of shape in the Watchmen that he might have had the skill at one point and just can’t do it anymore. On that note, his physical stats ought to be fairly low because Dan REALLY let himself go.
Regarding the Comedian’s morality: I don’t care if he tried to do the right thing toward the end; the guy was a rapist and a murderer. He wasn’t “pretending” to lack morals. He was a genuine scumbag who had occasional moments of decency.

Rorschach rates at least a 3 Intelligence. I think the reports from the Charlton Home and the psychiatrist in prison indicate that, if I recall correctly. He's in no way the least intelligent character in the story. Rorschach was more on the ball than almost anyone else, and that includes Ozymandias, "world's smartest man" who was unable to keep Rorschach--a man with little to no resources other than his brain and body--off his scent for very long even with his billions of dollars and resources. Rorschach's accuracy wasn't due to paranoia, it was due to logical reasoning--there were errors in his original hypothesis, but that doesn't make him stupid, rather the fact that he was able to alter it based on new information makes him rather bright. Stupid people don't change their ideas when confronted with new information.
I wouldn't give Nite Owl any Acrobatics 'cause even in flashbacks all we ever see him do is use gadgets and occasionally a few Close Combat moves. Maybe he used to have Acrobatics and the mind is willing but the body is weak.
Hmm...good point about The Comedian's morality. Trying to think of a better description for his challenge. Maybe "Utterly Hypocritical" or "Able to Rationalize and Justify Anything to Himself"? I dunno. Must say I disagree that he "tried to do the right thing at the end." I don't think he knew what the right thing was, which is why he got drunk and went crying to Moloch instead of taking any action. Probably morally frozen due to years of being a scumbag able to justify anything.
As for least intelligent: Silk Spectre, Int 2. Never displayed any particular brainpower beyond your average person. Excellent skills at avoiding unpleasant realities, though!
Silk Spectre Int 2 Str 1, 2 if you feel really generous Agi 2, 3 if you feel fairly generous Spd 2, 3 if you feel really generous Dur 2
Actions: Close Combat, Acrobatics, Social Skills (military industrial complex & bureaucracy?), and what else? I need a list in front of me.
As for Hooded Justice, he was a racist Nazi sympathizer who eventually got killed by The Comedian. Hooded Justice: Int 1, Str 3, Agi 2, Spd 2, Dur 3. Challenge: Secretly gay, secretly Nazi, secretly racist.
Captain Metropolis Int 2, Str 1 (in latter days--2 in 1940s), Agi 2, Spd 2, Dur 2. Challenges: Secretly gay, secretly racist.

Yes, I think I do have those in my Watchmen Sourcebook. We'd have to convert them, of course, but I will try to post those for you ASAP. Just got back from Long Island....
