I always liked the movies as a kid. The previews of the new movie looks awesome. I rarely go to the theaters, but I might make an exception for this movie, but that's because I'm already a fan. This looks like it is going to be a good movie though.

"Let's take a franchise with no modern relevance, create a preachy prequel/remake, and force people to like it." -Hollywood My thoughts, your words. I actually did like the old ones, but truth be told they were ALSO very preachy. Sci-Fi has a tradition of being preachy. But this? I just can't swallow this crap.

Its one of those franchises that should just stop and die an honorable death. I mean, its been less then 10 years since earlier remake, why bomb again?

I might have thought about seeing it, but they ruined it with so many trailers that I would already know what was gonna happen by the time it comes out. It is absoultely true that Trailers Always Spoil. (I would personally like to thank playah for getting me addicted to the tv tropes site.)

James Franco is a big draw. I'm not disagreeing with your general premise... just saying, don't be surprised if this big pile of steaming dung actually makes a big pile of stinking cash.

The trailers do spoil, but when you see a trailer called "rise of the planet of the apes," the title spoiled. I seen the first planet of the apes movie when I was a kid, and from that any viewer with a brain cell would know how this movie turns out. It's a prequel, of course we know how it turns out. It's like Braveheart, or Passion of The Christ. If you watch it you watch it for the movie, not for a shock of how it might end. We already knew that William Wallice died, and that Jesus died just like we know that the apes have to take over in the planet of the apes. This movie's about seeing it happen, and about how it happens.
This movie is interesting to me for several reasons. I liked the old ones, and this movie is both a prequel and a sequel. The events, and Ceasar were mentioned in some of the old movies. So, we have years worth of forshadowing, and that's something that I like.
So what if it has no modern relevance? Neither did 3:10 to Yuma, or Tombstone. The last planet of the apes movie is around 10 years old, and that gives us a good break from the series, and it doesn't constantly pump out sequels like the X Men franchise. That crap got me more tired of the X men in the past then years than planet of the apes did in over twenty.
Every movie is preachy. Movies are created from people who push their views onto others. As long as good Guys vs bad guys is a factor movies preach. If you don't like preach movies you should stick with unbiased documentaries on general construction. Even nature shows try to tell us to save wildlife, and war documentaries tell us what side to take.

Hmm, I was listening to NPR yesterday, and they were interviewing Andy Circus, the guy who played Gollum on LOTR. Turns out he's playing Caesar, too!

I'm confused now. "The Balls" I mean speaking as a guy the only balls I like are my own, and Lady War may like balls in general. I don't know if this means that you two are going to like the movie, or think it sucks. Hmm, I was listening to NPR yesterday, and they were interviewing Andy Circus, the guy who played Gollum on LOTR. Turns out he's playing Caesar, too! Oh great, LOTR...I actually liked the book series before the movies came out. After that everyone was like super into it, buying memorabilia, toys, and quoting the movie every time I turned around. Which was brilliant for hollywood because that made them some serious cash. It got of got me sick of the series really quick though. Knowing that he's on the movie makes me think this movie is going to be seriously popular, or it's seriously going to suck. There's no luke warm on this one, it's going to be all in one way or the other.

I wasn't a fan of LOTR myself actually, but I thought Andy Circus did an awesome job in the role of Golum. He didn't disappointing in this one either!
Saw it this afternoon, and was blown away. Really enjoyed it -- which quite surprised me...
