Back I am, gentlemen. You may rejoice.
...but not too much.
I think I've only said this before to one or two players so far, and oddly enough I find myself in that situation again. So, please allow me to say it again, and a bit louder, for all to hear (in other words, making a whole thread about it):
NOTE: This probably doesn't concern 90% of you. So please do not concern yourselves too much about it. If it does concern you, however, please pay attention.
I am not, by no means nor reason, absolutely necessary to any single game I am part of in which I am not the GM. And even then (another person could GM, the players could choose to GM one after the other, etc). I am but one of the countless players on this board, and I am not more important, vital or "a must" than anybody else in any type of game.
In the name of all that is holy, please, pretty please, stop making decisions such as "Damn... Gig can't be here for a week or so; let's stop the game entirely until he gets back even though there's like 10 other players in it", or "Gig hasn't updated in his threads even though everybody else has; I think I won't update anyone else until he does, even though almost none of his threads are related with any others in any way".
The good of the many outweighs the good of the one. Stopping a whole game because I'm not around for a while is, with all due respect, ridiculous. Putting everyone on hold because I'm not around for a while, a possibility that is not only likely, but pretty much unavoidable (after all, this is a game and I have a real life out there as everyone else do), is unfair to everyone else, and not a necessity nor a welcome option as far as I'm concerned: My goal on this board is to have fun around here roleplaying with you guys when I can. Not slow anyone down.
If I'm not around and I'm in a thread that stands by itself in the storyline, let that thread sleep till I'm back. If I'm with a group of other players and you absolutely want to move things forward, NPC me. If it bothers you to no ends that I can't be there all the time, well don't allow me in your games, because I must insist on that point: I can't be there all the time. Nor do I want to.
I don't know what your reasons are for focusing whole games on me. Good roleplaying? Funny characters? The way my CADs are made? Doesn't really matter to me, actually. Whatever the reason for doing so is not enough. I'm just some guy like any other, and I don't deserve nor want favoritism nor GMs slowing whole games just to wait for me.
By the way, I'm not writing all of this 'cause I'm upset or anything, I just want to make it clear. Gig isn't a prerequisite for any game to rock and roll; I'm just one of the many ingredients that can possibly add a little hint of flavor. So don't get obsessed about me being there and posting. I repeat: I'm not a necessity.
Live long and prosper, rock on, and keep bein' awesome.
