For those familiar with the Marvel Heroic system...
I'm expanding the Specialties (skills, essentially). Per the RAW, Specialties come in two levels; Expert (d8) and Master (d10). I've added the level Rookie (d6), and I want to add a d12 level, but what's better than "Master"?
I know this is just a "descriptive text" issue, but I want something good.

Not being too familiar with it you could go with something like this for the level names.
D6 Rookie D8 Professional D10 Expert D12 Master
I don't know if this fits and/or would work but it at least gives you your added levels and keeps master at the top.

It fits, but I really don't want to mess with the existing names (d8 = Expert, d10 = Master). It's easier to add rules if you don't change the syntax and confuse players.

Well, it's also used in stuff like Chess, and it does refer to someone who's the absolute top of the skill ladder.
(In fact, I've never heard it used at all in association with martial arts, in movies or otherwise)

The term is used in some modernized martial arts, I don't know that I've ever actually heard it in a kung fu movie either ;D

I Thesaurus'd it and came up with "Savant"

If we want to keep it in line with Marvel, you could maybe go "Cosmic?" That might be a little larger than a d12, though. "Epic" could work since that's pretty standard RP terminology for "bigger than you should really have."

Cosmic is also good but since these are skills, I want them to not sound like something only Silver Surfer could have. The reason I'm expanding it in the first place is to give someplace for the Captain Americas and Wolverines to go, to seem really special in their areas (in this case, Combat), without reducing people who are also amazing and genuinely deserve the title "Master" (and it's corresponding d10). IMO, it's very fitting to describe Cap's fighting skills as "Epic"

I was going to suggest Lenged or Legendary, but Epic is good.

I'd have gone with 'Paragon' level. A dictionary states it as "someone of exceptional merit"

I tend to think of Paragon as referring to overall character, rather than a particular skill.

While I do support the idea of having d6 as a lower level, d12 is a little too much power for something that regular humans can do. At least, I dont think there is anyone who could varrant a d12 on a skill, who doesnt get some sort of superpower. Even Iron Fist has his chi.
But yeah, thats just me. I prefer using specialties as a "bonus", not the "bulk" of characters power.
