Due to the discussion on the Suppress Mutant Powers thread-of-sorts in the General Board, the real use of an advantage like Artificially Intelligent for a mod came to mind.
I can see its use for SMP, but in all other cases it seems like nothing more than wasted stones. What would be the point in buying an Artificially Intelligent Toughness? From what I understand, AI makes it so the modifier turns on when needed, but isn't the point of a modifier that it's going to be on when it's needed? And if the case is a kind of exoskeleton that shields the defender, isn't that more of a flavor for the mod than an excuse to raise the CL by 3?
It just seems like either a terribly useless or terribly overpriced advantage to have.

i would treat it as, err words bad for me.
but say you have a toughness as an armor shell, but your KO'd. so its off, but its AI, so if your about to be shot, it turns itself on.
sounds right, or do i only make sense to myself

Well, I understand what you're saying, but I don't see how something like that would cost more to have.

I have only used the Artificially Intelligent advantage once. It was for a device that would automatically teleport the character back to her headquaters if she was knocked out.
It doesn't work to attach to everything, (but 2x damage doesn't work for teleportation, just like a lot of advantages can't be applied to all action/modifiers) but I think the AI advantage would work pretty well for several actions turned into modifiers, even though tthat makes them cost an obscene ammount.
I can't think of more examples right now, but with the list of action/modifiers, I could probably manage quite a few. Expect to see more this weekend.

Regarding AI Toughness: Sure at first glance, only having toughness when you need it doesn’t seem particularly useful. It is pretty rare that someone considers that that sometimes things need to get past those defenses. If Superman needs surgery then someone at the hospital is going to have to get the kryptonite scalpel out of storage but if his toughness had AI then it wouldn’t be an issue.
Same with any modifier that’s always on. There are times when you don’t want it to be on. If you’re Wolverine then do you really want your animal senses to be on when you team-up with Nightcrawler, Man-Thing, and Demolition Man?
