I got this idea from reading the example play of Phase Shift.
I was thinking of creating an option or a modifier that would let you do this defensively, without having to spend for it, each panel.
Here's what I have in mind...
As an option...
Reflexive Intangability - +2 to CL - Immediately shift stones to defense, from any action not yet preformed this panel, equal to half that actions A#, rounded down. The action that stones are removed from does not happen, and any stones remaining in the action are lost, as if the Action took place.
Or, as a modifier (you would only be able to buy it if you have Phase Shift or Manipulate Density)...
Reflexive Intangability - 4w - Immediately shift stones to defense, from any action not yet preformed this panel, equal to half that actions A#, rounded down. The action that stones are removed from does not happen, and any stones remaining in the action are lost, as if the Action took place.
How many times have we seen Kitty Pryde/Shadow Cat do this, only to have her attackers assault pass through her, harmlessly?
Thoughts/suggestions/ideas/recipes?
Also, on a related note, I thought to add the stunning option from Manipulate Density to Phase Shift, in the same way that Kitty Pryde does this to machines. It can raise the CL by a few different levels, if you can only stun machines, like Kitty, or just organics, both, etc.

Just noticed one error on my part.. It should say "shift stones when attacked".

Buy Toughness, renamed "Phase Defense." Problem solved.

Buy Toughness, renamed "Phase Defense." Problem solved. This so simple, yet I would have never thought of it even if my life depended on it.

Shadow Cat (from the Book) has Precognitive flashes (danger sence, spider sence) for phase only so there is an very easy defensive phase.

The power-gamer in me wants to suggest Limited Prescience that works on Phase Shift... but I know that's super-broken.

It is pretty stupidly broken, but what most people forget about Prescience/Limited Prescience is that you can only rearrange stones you've already spent, you can't take stones out of your Energy Pool, so it's not as broken as it may initially seem.

I've used a rennamed Reflexive Dodge for this in the past.
'Reflexive Phasing', 'Reflexive Teleportation', 'Reflexive Stretching'.... end of the day it's a strictly defensive/reflexive use of the original power (so it makes sense that the MN will most likely be lower than the AN).
Less broken than Prescience... even if I do LOVE the precog idea behind that modifier.

I would rather shoot myself in the face with a tazer than have a player with Prescience in one of my games. It is absolutely the worst of MURPGs many, many badly written rules.

LOL !! I won't tell you about the tele-empathic/clairvoyant Prescience "PC" with Phase Shift, secondary mutation.
