So I'd like some feedback on the setting I'm building up in the other thread, but I want that thread to stay strictly to the material I'm putting into the setting. Things to consider when giving feedback:
1) While I appreciate ideas that may come my way, I'd like to keep the ideas mostly my own original ones. Obviously, feedback may yield new ideas inspired by suggestions, but I'm not looking for things like "you should put something like this in there." I'd rather have bait on my hook so I can catch a marlin than someone place a guppy on the line for me.
2) Ambitious, possibly, but I'm looking at this not just as a setting for a campaign in the future with my home group but, the more I flesh it out, the more I'd like to actually expand it into some work of fiction to submit for publishing. Keep that in mind when giving feedback, that I'm coming up with ideas that I think will work well both from the perspective of an open game setting and as a series of novels.
2a) As a result, I'm also looking to ditch the Final Fantasy elements so it's not so blatant. I'm trying to think of things besides crystals to use, for example, but am having trouble. Maybe something like actual contained elemental essence (like pure vanilla extract... but fire!) or maybe idols or fetishes? Likewise, I steered away from Moogles, Viera, and the like because I'm staying away from the Final Fantasy roots!
3) Sadly, this isn't something I'll be opening up to the boards. I don't want to jump into it prematurely like I did with Nintendo stuff, so I'm waiting until I have a full, clear picture of the entire setting.
4) When it comes to feedback, I do want real feedback. I don't want "this is good" or "this is bad," but "this is good/bad because..."
Thanks so much, guys! ;D
