So, both you and WK wouldn't last long in a horror setting? Nor others I am too lazy to mention? I’m the comic relief. I may outlive some of you in a horror move but I’m still doomed. Edit: So I was flipping through channels and came across the season five episode where Willow goes after Glory in retaliation for hurting Tara. Will gets about one good hit in before Glory proceeds to school her until Buffy comes to the rescue. I know season six gave us the uber-powerful “Dark Willow” but in hindsight I really have to wonder where she got the confidence to head in that direction. In the earlier seasons she was a glass cannon at best. Maybe Willow isn’t that smart after all.

A fan film from a guy trying to get a job on the real show. Starring Tara from Buffy!

It’s confirmed that the cast will be entirely new characters … www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/02/character-descriptions-for-shield-tv-series-revealedNo Fury. No Hill. No Quartermain. No Woo. And I still have reservations about the budget. I doubt they can afford CGI flying cars or action sequences in wing suits. Unless they have them fight Hydra or some other existing comic villains, I’m not really seeing why they’re even bothering to pretend this is set in the Marvel movieverse (let alone SHIELD).

Let's not get carried away with all that out-of-character agreeing, hoss -- considering that Joss is helming this, I'm sure he's got plenty of Marvelness planned for SHIELD. He does know the source material pretty well, and I doubt very much he'd water it down that much...

He does know the source material pretty well, and I doubt very much he'd water it down that much... Joss is not some kind of prophet of awesome to me as is to some of you folk. I think that Buffy was a terrible show, and Angel only managed to be entertaining in spite of itself. Firefly was wonderful, but very short lived, so who knows how he would have raped that eventually, and the movie was very "meh" stuff. As far as I'm concerned, he's very hit-or-miss. With the Avengers, it's difficult to say how much he would have deviated from the source, since he was brought in and told to bring together a bunch of existing garbage that the movies introduced (Thor... *shudder*). In short', "It's Joss, man!" just isn't an argument with any meaning for me. He writes snappy dialogue (and has a tendency to overdo it, IMO), and can throw together a good action scene. He's not the second coming of George Lucas.

A guy with a head full of great ideas but only bats around .500? Sounds like Lucas.

Buffy was a great show … except for the seasons that were mediocre (four and six) or just plain bad (seven).
Unfortunately the better seasons of Buffy and Angel were the early ones (though Angel was never really bad for more than an episode or two at a time) and Joss hasn’t done anything decent for television since Firefly.
Did I mention Dollhouse was terrible?

I watched all of Firefly and the movie recently, and I honestly couldn't say what the fuss was about. Western set in space. Ok, it's different, but it felt to me like it was waiting for something big or interesting to happen and it never quite got there. I guess that's why they did the movie (and why the show was canned).
I watched Avengers again recently and still enjoyed it. It's a brain out popcorn munching punch fest and does little more than to set up a successful franchise (that may well run a while but time will tell) and to lead into more solo movies. Best parts about it were Loki and Hulk. A hulk movie is one I want to see now that all the origin stuff is well and truly told.
Buffy? No thanks. Watched snippets of the show when it was on, didn't care for it. Angel even less so, it just never appeared on my radar.
As for Whedon being the second coming (of Lucas) I don't think so. He's a director who'd had some hit tv shows and wrote some comics and struck gold with what was, essentially, a giant target anyway (none of the lead in marvel movies were flops) so it'd have been harder for him to fail. It was an enjoyable film though, and I have no criticisms save that Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne should've been in instead of Widow and Hawkeye.
George Lucas was replaced by aliens decades ago. All that Men in black stuff you thought was a movie? No. It's real... REAL I tell you...

I enjoy the ever living piss out of both Buffy and Angel, and I've watched both multiple times. Say what you will, but the shows STILL have respectably sized fanbases even well after. <shrug> Casts of both shows rave about Whedon, so I'm inclined to believe that I'll enjoy MOST of what he does.
I **REALLY** wanted to like Dollhouse... But that one was a miss for me. That's not to say I might not give it another shot down the road... I do so enjoy looking at Eliza Dushku.

Say what you will, but the shows STILL have respectably sized fanbases even well after. <shrug> This argument has always irritated the heck out of me. Popularity and quality are not related... if anything, the historical evidence suggests that they're inversely related. Of course Buffy has a huge fanbase even years after... it's entirely made up of dudes who consider themselves feminists, dudes who think one or more of the stars are hot, and women who have been duped into thinking that the show portrays women positively... but yeah, they're out there. Why wouldn't they be? How much entertainment was aimed at that particular intersection of age & interests at that particular time? You know what else has a huge fanbase long after the fact? The original Battlestar Galactica. Have you tried watching that crap lately?
