Captain Britain

Breathing a sigh of relief, the battered Captain flies back to the scene of the attack to help anyone still in danger of being flattened...
Who, what that thing was, or what it wanted he had no idea. He intended to get people out of the building, take a quick look about to see why that monstrous villain would attack the place, and contact Captain Marvel. Having to ask another for help was against his nature, but Captain Britain was used to being beaten senseless - it came with the uniform. Unfortunately when he was so completely outmatched the chance of someone else being hurt meant he couldn't risk being smacked about in some macho brawl and wake up later (if he woke up at all) to find out people had died.
"Not on my watch!" he hissed, trying to feel more bold and able to carry on the (good?) fight as long as he could.
ACTIONS
Fly back to the scene of the battle, quick look round for clues, contact Captain Marvel via telephone (if I recall even the brick mobile telephones weren't around quite at the time of the adventure. They required a mobile battery pack to stagger about with as well. I remember being amazed when a friend/neighbour got one of the first ones and being less amazed when he told me what it cost... After that payphones and the home phone didn't seem so bad.
Just on another note - will update our DC Heroes game tomorrow - I need to hit the sack after an awful week of crappy night shifts. Body clock has been screaming at me for hours...

Captain Britain flies back to the scene of the battle, where the people he aided thank him for protecting them from the simultaneous ground and air attack by Kree troops. After reaching Captain Marvel, she too thanks Britain for his efforts in protecting Earth from the all-out war the Kree have launched against the planet. The Captain is bewildered, but shrugs to Captain Marvel anyway...
"I feel like a twig cast into a river, dragged along by the current but not in control of my direction, despite my best efforts. That thing is in the Thames, but I don't think that will slow it down for long. What else needs to be done with regards this 'invasion'?"
He looks across the sky for sign of an invading army of aliens. "This doesn't feel like an invasion, more like my strings are being pulled as if I were puppet dancing to someone's tune, and they want me... us, to think it's some kind of Alien invasion. It wouldn't be the first time someone has messed about with my head..." he sighed, recalling the awful time when he'd lost his mind and jumped from a plane travelling across the Atlantic Ocean, and the subsequent dreamlike adventures in the lands of myth.
There was more, but the memories were still fresh, still painful.
"I can be contacted through a friend at Braddock Manor. Just tell Braddock you need to contact me, and he'll see you right. For now though, if I'm not needed, I'm going to head home, and have a stiff drink. After that, perhaps a soak in the bath. And if the world hasn't ended by then, perhaps I'll have another drink." he smiled, though it was pained. He'd been kicked from pillar to post and hadn't been in any shape for a fight for some time. Despite his superhuman endurance and powers, he was still human, and a very battered one at that.
ACTIONS
Unless the Authorities need him for clean up - or those 'Rogue Troopers' from Nu-Earth (I think that sounds about right, but it's been decades since I read 2000AD and Rogue Trooper - unless they really are Kree Warriors) turn up looking for a fight, CB will head home and try to recover some health. And if that robot turns up again, Captain Marvel could do a far better job of taking the thing down than CB would, though of course he'd get stuck in.

Captain Britain again finds that his memory of events is substantially different from the memories of everyone else. Rolling Captain Britain's Mind vs. Typical Difficulty: (2 + 5) x 2 Mind = 14. Success!Fighting his own memory, the Captain realizes that he has not been fighting the Super-Adaptoid -- and that his earlier battle with Hurricane could not have been real either. Then Captain Britain now spots what looks like Kay-tell's landing craft in a public area near where he first encountered the "Super Adaptoid"! Captain Britain gapes for a moment, then reacts in his usual manner...
He takes to the sky, fists clenched, and drives - hard - into the ship he recognizes, determined to disable it so that Kay-Tell, or whomever the man claims to be, can't escape him again!
ACTIONS
CB usually doesn't like his head being messed with - that's happened plenty of times in the past. With that in mind he uses his usual tactics, those of being a bull in a china shop!Charge the vessel, forcefield up, to punch a hole in the side and prevent it from taking off! He wants answers!

Or convert to Marvel Universe RPG, because it is diceless and we no longer have a convenient die roller?

OOC Don't know Hero 6th but have hero 3rd,4th,5th+FRed knocking about somewhere (presumably dusty since I didn't need its bullet stopping powers in a bank robbery lately). I *presume* its the usual 3D6 11+ with OCV/DCV and all that. Actually, I might have the Champions Complete PDF sat on my hard drive (buy and forget sort of thing - too many games not enough time...) If you want to try it out I'm game - I'll just state actions and spend what resources are available if you handle the clunky stuff. Measuring things in inches always irked me about Champions, plus the 1/4, 1/2 cost multiplier thing though that was less so in older versions. By 5th I'd had enough of 2" thick rulebooks. Too much. 4th was getting there, but somehow didn't seem as intimidating.
With regards Bash or Marvel, I'm easy. I have started (actually, last night for half an hour before I hit the sack) an idea with MURPG that has energy multiplying the stat to determine success. What this does is mean that Thor say, spends far less effort to use 10 points of Strength than would, say, an ordinary human (who spends 1 point of energy to exert 2 points). Even spiderman would have to use twice as much energy (with strength 5) than Thor (Strength 10) would, and there is a ceiling. It gets progressively more expensive to multiply stats beyond times by itself. So Spiderman spends 5 Energy to get 5 x 5 Strength, say. He then needs to spend 2x energy for every multiplier point beyond that up to 10x, then 3x energy beyond that. That doesn't mean Spiderman can lift the same as Thor either. He's limited by his level of Strength (5) so that every multiplier means he lifts a certain amount of weight.
It's quite a departure from MURPG (I planned to use Agility+Speed+Perception added up as a catch all attack/defence stat which the player determines the split. So let's say Spiderman has 6 Agility, 5 Speed, 4 Perception. That's 15 points, and he splits them 8 on attack, 7 on defence. Then spend energy, say 5 points on attack, 7 on defence. That means spidey gets 40 attack, 49 defence. Added to that are any relevant skills, so Spidermans Close Combat of 4, say (he had that martial arts training) adds free onto the total, so brings Attack up to 44. And his defence has reflexive dodge +3, which adds +3 to the energy stones spent bringing it up to 10 on defence, which means 10 x 7= 70 defence. Spidey is NOT easy to hit!)
That's it in a nutshell.
Stat x Energy Add skills Modifiers give free energy where applicable
Compare against a target number (usually difficulty x itself plus modifiers, say for weather, darkness, being shot at and so on) or another characters total. Exceed to succeed.
Still early days. When I've fleshed it out a bit more will need playtesting, but the recovery mechanic is changed too. You have a recovery score (based on Endurance) and recover a number of stones based on Energy x Endurance (up to your pool limit, which is variable now, so you could have 3x, 4x,5x or more energy for the really big hitters)
Let's say spidey has 5x Energy and 4 Endurance. He gets a pool of 20 points to spend at the start and just spent 15 on attack/defence. That leaves him 5 to spend on recovery, so he's on 5x4 full energy next round. When he's pushed, and has to dig deep (by spending all his energy) you'll see that value shrink. You always recover (as a minimum) 1 energy point, so when you spend it all you will have 1 point the next round, but it's something you have to juggle now, rather than blow your lot then flounder about for the rest of the fight.
When Spiderman loses Endurance, he can still get his full Energy pool, it just costs more energy to do so. So lets say he takes 1 Endurance damage from the Punisher. He's on 3 Endurance, his pool max is still 20 but if he has 5 energy left and spends it all on recovery he will only have 15 points next round, not 20 as before.
It's still a spiral, though nowhere near as steep, and gives another resource to juggle.
Healing factor is a modifier added to recovery of energy. You still need to spend 1 energy (minimum) for Wolverine to recover but add his +5 Energy Recovery to that. He's hard to put down, and worse, he fights flat out without getting tired! (His Endurance recovery is a different thing, and works even when the character is dead)
Still in the planning stage, and I will post up what I have (better explained) in another thread. I want resource management without the problems, and this *might* be a solution. We'll see. The math might cause some to squirm, but we all did our times tables at school, right? (uh yeah, 30 years ago...)
How about Icons? You have that? D6-D6 for rolls, add stat/power/skill and you have your result (positive=success of varying degrees). Let's say Cap Britain (Strength 5) lifts a car. The roll is D6 (3) - D6 (5) or -2. Add Strength and Cap still has 3, which is a success, but maybe not as successful as needed.
Anyway, I'm happy to go with whatever you want. Enjoying this trip down memory lane but it reminds me also of what a 1 dimensional Brick Captain Britain is/was. He's had a raw deal oover the years from Marvel though.

Sorry, I'm not interested in a modified version of the MURPG at this time. I also did not purchase ICONs, so I'd play in an ICONs game, but not run one.
I've heard there are some major differences between Hero 5th Edition and 6th Edition, but don't know all about them since I don't have 5th edition rules. The Champions Complete should be close to the 6th Edition Basic rules. I posted some rough data for a Hero System character sheet, at 270 points. The HERO System has a lot of stats, but the game-play seems mostly rolling 3d6 and hoping for a low number. Then roll damage and hope for a high number.
It will take some time for me to settle on Captain Britain's character sheet, so in the meantime, please let me know what you want Mr. Braddock to do now, so we can continue with the story.
Thank you.

Captain Britain's Slam = (3+6)x(3Brawn+1Momentum) = 36 Kree Ship's Soak = (1+1+2)x(3Brawn)+5Size = 17 Captain Britain looks around, annoyed."What the devil is going on here?" he mutters. With no one to hit he starts examining the inside of the ship, careful not to touch anything. He wants to know if this really is an alien ship, and whether it is part of an invasion force or some ruse to give him the run round. Wouldn't be the first time. He looked about, wondering if Vixen, Slaymaster, Dr Synne or any other myriad number of nut jobs were observing him on camera and having a laugh at his expense! ACTIONSExamine the ship without triggering (hopefully) any doomsday devices or whatever. If it's alien technology he wants to get in touch with Nick Fury, pronto.Captain Britain's Hits: 18/100 Captain Britain's Hero Points: 1 Captain Britain's Hero Dice: 0

OCC: Sticking with BASH! for this post.Mind check: (5+3)x2= 16 Investigating the ship, Captain Britain finds that it does appear to be of alien design. He is able to contact Nick Fury when the military arrive to take this landing ship to a nearby base. The Director is busy preparing for the mission to the Kree home planet, but will arrive that night to meet with Captain Britain and take a look at the ship. 8 hours and 48 Hits of Healing later...Please pretend it is night time in this picture. Please roleplay Captain Britain's arrival at the base. At this point Brian doesn't know if Fury is already there or if he arrived first. There are guards to note CB's arrival. A long soak in the bath, cold flannel on the face and a bottle of Glenfiddich had soothed away some of the bruises and humiliating batterings Brian had taken recently.
When younger, he was full of fire and vigour, determined to win every battle, charging headlong into the fray with careless abandon. As he got older and much changed from before, he thought he'd be able to cope with the challenges better. Instead it seemed his life had gotten harder. A man alone, apart, never much of a team player. Oh for sure he'd teamed up with people. Captain America, Spiderman, The Black Knight, even Nick Fury, plus others but he always felt the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. Britain.
With a sigh he sank his head under the water, held his breath for minutes and slowly broke the surface again. He reached for his drink... paused... and sighed.
Towelling himself off he glanced at the drink still untouched on the table by the bath and considered a quick one for the road. Instead he brushed his teeth and suited up.
==========
Captain Britain landed at the gatehouse, making himself large and visible in the night in case the guards were jittery.
"Evening gentlemen" he said to the guards at the gate. "Here to see Nick Fury. I'm Captain Britain." he added, figuring he was stating the obvious considering the costume he wore appeared more or less nightly on the BBC News, generally with him in it kicking the snot out of bank robbers or similar.

The Director apologizes to the Captain for his short temper the other day. Britain and Fury are then taken to the Kree Landing ship, which sits on a landing strip surrounded by armed SHIELD agents. On the way, Nick informs Brian that the Earth Superheroes' mission to the Kree home planet will blast off in three days. "Been known to get out of the wrong side of bed in the morning myself Fury" smiled the Captain, shaking the mans hand
Aware that his appearance (and build) had changed somewhat since the last time Fury met him Captain Britain explained as they walked over to the Kree ship. "I've been through a lot since last we met. If you meet Captain America anytime soon, tell him he's always welcome in Britain. This country, and many more, are indebted to the man. He's an example I aspire to."
When they got closer to the Kree ship the Captain spoke in lowered tones. "Director, something feels off with all of this. I've been attacked several times, thoroughly thrashed in fact. Whilst I don't mind mucking in, doing my part, I can't help but feel that this trip to the Kree homeworld will drag the Earths heroes into a war we can't win. I say that because, with all due respect, without the likes of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four, Earth will be open to attack. Not defenseless, I assure you..." he said, raising a hand to cut off any retort from Fury "but weakened. Is it vital that I go? I feel responsible for the protection of my country and I am only one man. In the grand scheme of things I'm not even that powerful when compared to many of the American heroes."
He sighed "I'm not trying to duck out of my duty - lord knows I love a good scrap as well as the next man - but there's a nagging doubt in my mind that as soon as I scoot off, someone will move in behind me, and then this place will be in a right old bloody mess."

OOC: Since this is originally a MSHRPG game, I'd like to switch to this system for simplicity. I'm not in love with the stats chosen, so please provide your input and we can discuss changes. Based on the last post, Captain Britain should make a Reason FEAT roll for persuasiveness. euhhf7v51-100"Alright Captain, you may have your reasons for not wanting to join the mission to the Kree home planet. But we can't allow Earth to be the target of another large scale attack," Fury says before turning away to check some reports.
