Very schway
This game will be set in the not-so-distant future of the DC Animated Universe, chronologically between Return of the Joker and the Justice League "Epilogue" episode. Most of the old guard of the Justice League has mostly stepped aside, although the aging Superman and Static are still going strong. Life remains largely the same, even with the transition from cash to creds, flying cars, or the rise of laser weaponry. Terry McGinnis has been active as Batman for some time, and is getting closer to honoring the legacy he's inherited. It's the version of the future the 90's thought was going to happen, so it's full of cyberpunk imagery and moral ambiguity.
Your characters will each be the next generation of superhumans, mentored by members of the Justice League. Some would derisively call you "sidekicks" or "teen heroes". The circumstances for your mentorship could vary wildly: you might be a ex-super criminal on probation with a heroic mentor, a legacy hero who's vision of most of the heroes from the good old days actually accomplished seems hazy at best, you might not even be interested in heroics and are being forced to go through this apprenticeship, or even the culmination of something more bizarre. Your mentors are also working together as an adjunct League team, working on their own missions together, and ostensibly educating you on top of your own lives, ambitions, and challenges.
You travel the world as part of your training, learning more about yourselves in the process, and what it takes to be a team. However, it might also involve the clashing of wildly different personalities, heavy dashes of moral ambiguity, and reexaming and exploring what makes the heroes of the DCU. I really can't emphasize the tone enough, this game is going to deal with moral ambiguity, cyberpunk cynicism, and hopefully examine/recontextualize some of the iconography and setting of the old DC Universe.
Now, here's where things are going to get crazy. Essentially, I'm going to ask you to develop two characters, the first your teen hero, but with a certain mentor in mind, who could be a version of a pre-existing heroic character who might still be alive (Red Tornado seems like a probable one, for example, message me with ideas, and we could come up with something plausible,) or could be someone entirely new and original who happens to work with the Justice League. The teen hero will be the primary character for the game (barring like, maybe a special issue or something,) but it'll help me with worldbuilding and setting up NPC's. To further compliment the awkwardness, the next stage will involve preestablishing relationships with the other players before start of play, it'll be like you've already gotten acquainted and grown to like or loathe each other. I'm hoping to use a mix of old and new villains (Vandal Savage is an obvious choice, for example) with science fiction twists whenever possible.
To reflect the DCAU's relatively awesome yet curbed power level, I think 40+10 stones would be appropriate for a teen hero (Kryptonian power sets might be weaker at this stage but doable.)
