Musical preferences vary, not everyone likes the same stuff, blah blah blah, I know, I know. Still, in my honest opinion, lots of songs from back in the 70s, 80s and 90s were very inspirational, pleasant to hear, catchy as heck and/or generally downright great. Some of my personal favorites: The point of all this? Just curious of what you guys' favorite old songs might be... ...and while we're at it, your answers might bring back to mind some masterpieces I might have forgotten, which is also cool. ^_^

I like 'em even older than that. I think my favourite music comes from the 60's:
to name a few.

I do like a couple of the ones you posted, though I gotta admit the 60s are less to my musical tastes' liking. Thanks for posting those, though... Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder. ^_^ EDIT: Less than the 70s, 80s and 90s anyway. There are several jewels from the 60s which I like, of course.

Aww yeah, The Hustle! Nice. ^__^
I feel like music has gotten more and more polarized between suckitude and awesomeness since around the early 80s. Basically I blame music videos for making appearance and sex appeal a competing factor with, you know, actual talent. But there continues to be innovation in music, and that creates some truly great work even today.
When I was little I always thought they would eventually run out of songs to write. Like, how many ways can you arrange notes and instruments in an original way that actually sounds good? How many lyrics and rhymes can you actually write that are still even remotely original? But I did not predict sampling, nor how much I'd like it. ^__^
I love the 70's, too. The Vietnam War produced some amazing music, and I'm surprisingly partial to a little disco. Time to break into the 70s!:
Starting with one in the running for my favourite song ever:
Some classic Zep:
How many relationships do you think were saved, for better or for worse, by Al Green?
Speaking as someone who lives with chronic insomnia:
Also, my favourite album of all time was released in '75, though I know it isn't everyone else's cup of tea (the intro is maybe slightly NSFW?):

I love classic rock, and there way too many classic rock bands for me to list. So, I'll list a couple of old songs that aren't in my normal collection that I enjoy listening too.
Have to love the George Baker selection, and who didn't love Reservoir Dogs?
I'm also going to go a little country, and mention the greatest guitar player ever recorded. I like Pat Travers and Stevie Ray Vaughn, but Chet Adkins used every string of a guitar. He could make a guitar do things that I haven't seen anyone else do. Basically, he played a guitar like a banjo, and that's hard to do.
