Setting: The world of the supernatural is very real, and doesn't particularly care for humanity anymore. Enter the Boxing Corps, a privately funded worldwide organization that helps to combat, research and keep peace with he supernatural world. Often called upon to consult with world governments and provide assistance if necessary, the Corps is the only thing today that keeps humanity at the top of the food chain.
History: Why call it the Boxing Corps?, its a bit of historical fact AND crude metaphor. During the middle ages when monster hunters were the prototypes for the modern day corps, to put something in a box was usually a poetic way to state you were going to kill something. This worked well and good for your Ogres, Werewolves, and reanimated corpses, BUT it is also a bit deeper than that. The first people to truly rally in a concentrated joining of forces battled a particularly vicious and predatory Fae species known as the Granta, which couldn't be killed by any conventional means. Instead, several wizards and other mystically inclined humans developed the process of "Boxing". While they couldn't find a proper way to stop the Granta threat, they did know that like all Fae they had a severe aversion to Iron. Thus Cold-Iron caskets were developed to "Box" the Granta, and then bury them away from new world. So fierce and awful were the Granta that even they're brethren Fae agree the world is a better place for there boxing. Since then the Boxing Alliance grew, becoming the Boxing League in the Victorian Era, then known as the Boxing Corps from WW2 Onward.
Players: The players take on the role of relatively green "Boxers" that are teaming up for the first time, you've all been with the organization for roughly 6 months to a year or anywhere in between. Stone Count is 30+10 and you can split durability if needed. In terms of the types of characters, heres some general guidelines. Really BIG supernatural creatures like Vampires and Werewolves wont be available to pay as they would never associate with the Boxing Corps, they've allied with them when convenient but on the whole it is extremely rare to see these creatures working in the Corps. This goes double for Fae as they only partly reside on the mortal plain to begin with. If you have something more obscure in mind ask me. Magic is alive and well, but incredibly secret to the average person, and while there are magical orders and covens and the like, the security that the Boxing Corps can offer intrigues many magical individuals and with so many different types and sects of magic the Boxing Corps is always looking to expand its repertoire. Doesnt hurt to have a few badass normals as well. People with paranormal abilities, mainly psychic in origin, are numerous within the Boxing Corps. Potential applicants should keep in mind that this is an INTERNATIONAL organization. Please keep your CADs to a central theme, happy hunting!
An a quick and personal note Im a big fan of the narrative as a whole and weaving my PCs into the story. Definitely look to BPRD, Dresden Files and Proof for reference as to the type of game this will be. As the world grows and evolves Ill be keeping a strict bible so there no confusion as to what hurts what or what doesnt. A good example of this is if you go look at the vampires page on wikipedia you'll see that theres a drastic range of abilities, physical characteristics, and weaknesses that has over 600+ variaitons. Once ours are set it will be in stone and easy to reference.
