The new generation of X-Men has graduated from the Xavier Institute and taken their place as heroes on a world stage, fighting for mutant rights and protecting the world from the dangers of mutant terrorists. Their most recent victory appears to be a final one against a time-travelling Omega-level mutant (and Phoenix Force wielder) the Ashen Phoenix in a battle in a distant possible future. They've pitched battles with the likes of Magneto's Brotherhood, Clan Akkaba (and their leader, the Scion, the heir to Apocalypse's throne,) the villainous interdimensional TV executive Mojo, and working with and against the Hellfire Club, amongst other enemies old and new.
Nobody talks about the fate of those who came before them: Generation Hope. The young X-Men include heroes from the earlier generations of the team, but Hope Summers and the similarly-aged students of her period (i.e. the ones from after Generation X) are unmentioned. This is because the Decimation not only depowered many of them, but many were murdered by a group of psychopathic mutant terrorists without conscience. They went by The Resistance, thirteen mutants in all of great power and sadism and nonexistent conscience. Inspired by Magneto, but taking an even more radical take on his "pro-mutant" ideology, the Resistance killed humans and human sympathizers alike, viewing the X-Men as overglorified Uncle Toms and the Brotherhood themselves as a co-opted shadow of their former self. They claim to be the true heirs to Magneto's legacy and the true rulers of the mutant utopia he's promised. In actuality, much of this ideology was a smokescreen for some of its members, who used it as an opportunity to indulge in their dark appetites for murder, although their leader Helios is a strong proponent of it, and many others supported it to varying degrees. (Think the Brotherhood through an "X-TREME 90's" fiter mixed with the Manson Family mixed with Legend of Korra's Red Lotus with a dash of HunterXHunter's Phantom Troupe and a sprinkle of Brett Easton Ellis-style nihilism.)
Like the line-up often does, the X-Men are going to lose some members and take on some new members as the Resistance reunites after many of its members had gone missing or been imprisoned. Hope they survive the experience...
Character Creation
40+10 challenges max (must be a mutant, although I might be flexible with it being a strictly human mutant depending on the concept;) I'm most interested in either a character who could be easily linked storywise with the Resistance (so either a relative of a member or a descendant of a Generation Hope-era mutant pairing). But if you can come up with something cooler, I'm always open to being pleasantly surprised. I'd rather approve concepts than crap on CADs, so if you want to shoot me a CAD and tell me what you're working on so I can provide feedback while you're working on it, that's awesome, but not 100% necessary. No special house rules in effect.
Since this game is mostly staffed still, I'm only looking for 1 or the most 2 players. I get a lot of people PM-ing me asking about spots when I'm not looking for them so I'm hoping to get some stiff competition for this. NeXt is my baby and I'm excited about this new arc I have planned.
Questions/concepts/whatever? PM me!
