I would be able to chat this weekend on skype maybe? Or maybe Friday night.
Would doing character creation live like that be better?
That or I can be available to text chat or even rapid fire post.
Being In your time zone is great. Can't remember the last time that happened.

Being In your time zone is great. Can't remember the last time that happened. Live would be best and certainly faster... but I doubt we'd be able to get the whole group together with everyone's disparate schedules to make that a reality. How long are you stateside?

It shares the same core mechanic (because both are offshoots of Cortex); you have a number of different traits on your sheet, you roll the dice that apply, keep a certain number of them to generate a total, and another to be your "effect die." After that it gets pretty different. The process of character creation is lengthy, due in no small part to the fact that players create their characters cooperatively, going through each "stage" of character building one at a time, so that each character is essentially linked to each other character (which actually has mechanical implications in the game as well). At the same time as players build their characters, they are also building their links to the setting (for instance, if you were building Batman, there is a point in character creation at which you would opt to select "Alfred" as a trait, assuming he wasn't being played by another player, and the "strength" of that trait would directly influence how much Alfred can help Batman in the game). The bright side of that is; creating characters also teaches players a lot about playing the game itself, because you start to see the way your sheet will interact with the rest of the game. So, looks like we've got one interested specifically in the Empire State University concept. Any other strict preferences? I'm not stuck on the Titans concept specifically. That sounds quite amazing, I think bought the book ages ago, will see if I can find it between the piles of cortex whatsoever and tons of Unknown Armies. Anyways, I lean towards Marvel more than DC, that's no mystery, but now that I know how characters are going to be created I have no special preferences one way or the other. Also, being on line at a certain time could prove difficult as hell.

My preference for Empire State is based mostly on barely any familiarity with DC. I've really only seen the Batman films (minus DKR) and a chunk of Teen Titans episodes.

I have no idea what Empire State is.

I'm assuming it's just "your favorite Marvel characters are young adults and have drama!" Smallville-ish.

Also, with respect to X-Men (since I saw it's still up on the poll), I'm in accord with you there. I think it's the most ripe for making a "teen drama" kind of game, but it's also a very done premise. It's done for a reason, but still... meh.
What would you think of something in the vein of X-Statix, not that the characters are all mutants or X-affiliated, but that they're a group of kid superheroes that are in some kind of reality show? It could be a Real World kind of show like in X-Statix or it could be something more like The Office or Parks and Rec, with cameramen following the group around and documenting, but the group isn't thrown together as a bunch of random misfits that make for good ratings. For example, if we did Empire State, it could be that a documentary crew is filming the exploits at the university and our characters just happen to be students there. For Titans, it could be that the public is intrigued by the Titans, who already exist, and a network has decided to start following them around.
Actually, I think that if (when) we don't go that route, whichever game we play, I'm going to pick a character that fits into the Andrew Wells school of filming everything and will likely be a part-time vlogger. I'm operating on the assumption that we'll be in a new timeline, so our Titans (for example) wouldn't exist alongside the current Superman stories, right?

I have no idea what Empire State is. Empire State is the fictional university that, in some versions of the continuity, Peter Parker (amongst others) attended. Its a pretty solid place to gather a bunch of Marvel characters; just about anybody could be a student or teacher there. Some of the bigger guys (Cap, Stark, Thor) are obviously out without some major alterations to their background, but it still leaves room for lots and lots of Marvel favorites.

No 8) I know that you loved the premise. I was less enthusiastic. Also, the system somewhat assumes that all of the characters have some connection to one or more of the other characters prior to the start of the series (in fact, these relationships are a backbone of both the game's system and the character creation process), and it seems to me that the reality TV milieu largely relies on the gimmick of characters being strangers.

Voted for Empire State, it sounds interesting (even if it removes some of the younger teen part of the equation, unless we are talking some gifted youngsters around) and it's Marvel, so yeah. That said, I have no issue doing something else after seeing the explanation about a connected and fresh starting point and all that.

Voted Titans as well. Not because I'm working on a Cortex+ hack for an X-Academy game now. Those are rumors. Baseless rumors.
