Being a teenager is hard enough when you're a human being, but when you're born with the so-called X-Factor gene, it suddenly becomes all the more complicated. Not only do you have certain pro-human groups thinking you've somehow become less than them. However, it has granted you a scholarship to the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning in upstate New York. The Institute is famous for teaching generations of young mutants how to responsibly control their powers and use them to broker peace between mutants and humans alike, and infamous for being the home to that legendary team of mutant outlaws the X-Men. Your characters will be part of the next class at Xavier's, either part of the next generation of superhumans or ready to forge your own legacy, destined to stand together as the next team of X-Men, protecting humans and mutant alike from those that hate and fear them... Hope you survive the experience! ********* Player selection for this will be a little more difficult, because I want you guys to generate all your characters together, and to set some of the important NPC's and locations for this game. Basically, I'm going to pick a group from interested applicants. If I've played with you before, expressing interest is all I'll. I'm going to try to avoid blatant croneyism (subtle croneyism is ok though if it means I like working with you ;D), if I haven't roleplayed with you before, send me a PM with a link to some writing sample (it's okay if it's a game thread for another GM or even for another board, I just want to know you can put together a few sentences and generally consider a post more than 2 simple sentences). Once I pick a team of 4-6, I'll be posting a chargen thread where we'll be making characters (and picking some choice NPC's and locations). The rules will use a hybrid of Smallville and Marvel Heroic rules (maybe with some custom bits attached on, I'm still hacking the system together as we speak, but wanted to start attracting players while I did it). There will be dice, lots of dice, if that isn't something you're into. We can start dialogue here, and/or you can PM me. I'll keep an ongoing list of applicants, and since I'm asking for next to nothing for you to start, I'll make my selections relatively quickly. If you haven't posted interest in this or PM-ed me by Monday, I'm going to say you aren't around frequently enough to post ( ).

I want in, general tone of the game? Good question! My ideal mix would be 60% teen drama 30% action/things exploding 10% high-concept superheroic sci-fi rigamarole (time travel, aliens, etc.) I really want to do more teen melodrama stuff (he likes her but she likes the bad boy in the Brotherhood who likes another member on the team who's already GOT a boyfriend thank you &tc.)

Then I REALLY want in.

I am down for this. It sounds like fun. As WK said, custom characters?

Oh yeah, I knew I forgot to mention this in the original post: original characters preferred and encouraged!

Welp, I'm already elbows deep into the Smallville RPG book right now for WK's game, so- color me onboard.

Okay, so my thoughts:
I want to use that "amateur vlogger/Andrew Wells" type character for this game. His mutation should somehow connect to that, so I'm either thinking something that would let him run around observe what's going on around him (Multiple Man-style or maybe Invisibility?) or some kind of Telepathy/Empathy that gives him a deep understanding of people around him and has spurred him into documenting what they're all up to. On the flip side, it could be fun to play his power against his characterization. Maybe he's a gentle giant type whose friendliness and fondness for directing/art is contrasted by his ability to turn into a dragon or his mastery over some element that manifests itself hideously. Third option is that he could have a somewhat useless ability that he feels the need to compensate for by being a "journalist" of sorts around the school.

Just tossing out my two cents... what if he has the "multiple man" type ability, but each time he "splits" that duplicate represents an exaggerated form of one of his emotions, which allows him to examine emotions differently than others do? After enough splitting the original would be pretty "drained" of emotion, leaving him a sort of impartial observer type figure.
