Recently I've bee on a glut of strategic boardgames. I'm looking for something like Settlers of Catan, but perhaps with an easier learning curve. Anyone got any suggestions?

I'm a pretty crazy board game lover, but recommending some games isn't always easy. Ticket to Ride is a pretty easy game to get into, and has several lovely versions running around. On that same network-creating vibe there is one of my favorite games, the meatier but still quite easy to get into Power Grid. If you want a little bit more of eurogame feel you could try some worker placement with Agricola, Viticulture or Lords of Waterdeep. As I said, it's hard to recommend games without knowing more. Is there any game that your group particularly enjoyed or any kind of game/mechanic you are curious about? Also, how many players?

My friends really like Carcassonne; I think it's alright, I find it a little bland, but their enjoyment makes it fun for me. It's also fairly easy to pick up; usually takes one full game for people to get the idea.

I wouldn't call it strategy in the traditional sense, but the game Resistance is a fantastic game of wit and deception. It requires a slightly large number of players but is well worth the fun. It's basically played out entirely through natural dialogue, so it lacks the element of traditional strategy.
