Flying under the radar lately has been the TV adaptation of Cloak and Dagger. It's set for a 2018 release on Freeeform, which I guess is some kind of Disney channel? I guess for most of us that means Piratebay? Anyway, I didn't know they were so far along in production, but they just dropped a trailer: I'm not exactly moved, but maybe it's one to keep an eye on? Seems like its aimed at teens, which is likely what they're doing with the upcoming Runaways show, too. ~TWF

I'm a sucker for powered teenage drama, so I'll watch this, that's for sure. Looking better than expected, although it seems to be pretty low key on the powered part.

It seems to me they have gone a LONG way from the cannon on how these two got their powers and became so close. im afraid its going to be more watered down then Iron Fist was, and there were points in that I was deeply saddened by.

So the first 3 episodes are already out. I think you can watch the first two free on Freeform if you're in the US.
It's okay, but it's not really my thing. The production quality is good, the acting is okay, but the pace is really slow and they just didn't get me interested enough in the characters to keep my attention. I can't tell who the target audience is supposed to be: teens or adults? They might have tried to snag both, and might have missed somewhere in between.
If I had to pick one gripe it would be that the characters just don't have anything to lose. Tandy is an unlikeable homeless drug addict thief. Tyrone's parents have provided him with a better life that he and his powers are jeopardizing, but he doesn't seem to care. It's such a bleak, dispassionate story. I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be feeling, if anything.

I’ve watched episode one, and agree with all of these points. That said, I think there is a very firm bedrock to build on... and i’m hoping very much that they do so.
I honestly feel like all of the MARVEL tagged shows have been relatively slow burns that eventually do find stride and impress me.... and I’m hoping for the same here. The only one I’ve genuinely been let down by was Luke Cage (much as I dislike Danny rand, i was actually content with the finished product). They had the solid bedrock early in the season, but failed to execute a satisfying end (as far as i’m concerned). Maybe season 2 will redeem that for me.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Luke Cage this weekend. The first season was made at a time when there had been nothing but positive reviews for Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Luke Cage was the first misstep, and after Iron Fist and Defenders they should have plenty of feedback on what audiences don't like. I'm curious to see how they correct course, if at all.

I've stopped watching after episode 4. The show is 100% misery with no hope or humour or colour. I actually like dark, sad stories, but you can't maintain the same bleak tone for an hour and expect the audience to keep feeling it.
That, and the cheesy, melodramatic dialogue is killing me. It reads like bad teenage poetry.

Please let me know how Luke Cage season 2 turns out. I couldn't get through season 1 but I might just fast forward if it improves

Please let me know how Luke Cage season 2 turns out. I couldn't get through season 1 but I might just fast forward if it improves It's a mixed bag. I didn't like how Season 2 started, but it gets better the less it focuses on Luke. The writers just don't seem to know what to do with him, and Mike Colter doesn't have the acting chops to turn bad writing into gold (very, very few actors do). He's a very passive protagonist and I find that frustrating. Fortunately, it's more of an ensemble season that focuses a lot on Misty, Mariah, Shades, and the new villain.
It does a few things really well, and a lot of things not so well, but it's watchable. Mileage is going to vary a lot. For me it started to pick up around episode 4 and I managed to hang on until the end.
