It looks watchable, even good, but after all the hardships the project has gone through I don't think I have enough trust on it to go to the theaters. Once it hits streaming/bluray/whatever I'll go for it no doubt.

Supposedly Feige watched the first draft and liked it so much he cancelled the reshoots. However, the skeptical part of me read that as "Feige didn't think the reshoots were worth the effort" which can mean a lot of things.
I suspect it will fall in the "neat, but I didn't ask for this" category, like the recent Joker movie. Still, I'm surprised the trailed didn't look like a total clown fiesta.

Yeah, at this point I'm leaning towards "Hey, this turned out to be a watchable movie all production troubles considering" somewhat like what happened with Solo (although to a different degree). Which is a pity, considering that I like the characters, actors and idea. I guess I'm still waiting for the Rom-Com joke of the first page of the thread to become a reality someday, a man can dream.

Has anyone here seen this? The day it premiered here in Spain I choose to watch Tenet (ooof) on a basically empty movie theater, so I haven't yet. Will have to wait until it gets released on Disney+ or whatever they do with it.

Anya Taylor Joy was AMAZING in Queen's Gambit, which almost makes me want to see this, since she plays one of my favorite Marvel characters. Hoping someone who's actually a fan can give a review, though, because the "professional" critics hated it, and the synopsis doesn't look great.

I managed to watch it this afternoon (it should be widely available November 17th) and it's way better than expected. It's also a bit of the bare minimum needed to be a movie. It's complicated, let me explain (no spoilers):
Clocking at about an hour and a half the movie doesn't have time to waste. In fact it has been so reshot, recut and retooled that what we get to watch is a competent and huge mistake free version of what could have been. For many people it will result in a forgettable experience, no doubt, as it's a troubled mutant version of the Breakfast Club. For others it will be thoroughly enjoyable though, precisely as it's a troubled mutant version of the Breakfast Club. It fits perfectly as a starting adventure like the ones take part in here, to the point that one can almost (or completely) start to "cast" whose players of this board would be playing each one of the characters. It takes its liberties with said characters of course, so even if they fit in the movie be ready to expect some tweaks to their origins and so in service of this particular version.
I enjoyed it, specially seeing the characters interact between them more than the superhero/horror/cgi thing itself, and I'd love if the cast came back in whatever Marvel with do with mutants from now on, but as the dream of getting the Netflix series actors back, I highly doubt it will happen.

Did you have any particular reaction to Taylor-Joy? Or among all of the actors, were there any stand-outs?

The cast is a pretty small one and basically everyone has time to shine. Maybe Henry Zaga's Roberto Da Costa is the one that gets less development but it's fine. Anya's Illyana is more than fine (if you like this particular take on the character, it has a few quirks) and it's probably the third character with most screentime ahead of Sam Guthrie and only behind Rahne Sinclair and Dani Moonstar. The five of them are a nice unit and the best part of the movie by far.

“The Darkest Minds” set a bar that the New Mutants fell very shy of IMO. I’ll agree that it was better than expected, but— if you liked the IDEA of this, check out “The Darkest Minds”.
New Mutants would most DEFINITELY have been better served as a Netflix miniseries— and a stronger script/story/dialog/directing. The casting was... okay. The effects were decent. All in all not the worst of the X movies... but meh.
