Gotham city police department, serving the needs of over 2.5 million residents, numerous criminals and one Batman. Over the years patroling the city Batman has driven most criminals into the daylight. The few mob bosses that remain now conduct their business in well lit rooms in the brightest part of the day. Most criminals refuse to go out after dark for fear of the ever looming presence of the bat.
Not all criminals are so wary of the bat though and it is this new breed of super criminals that Batman faces on a nightly basis. These are men and women whose skills and abilities have risen to meet the challenge of the caped crusader. To them the police have become a mere nuisance so in response the police have had to evolve.
Many of those with extraordinary abilities choose to become criminals or vigilantes, but a few have joined the ranks of the GCPD, and it is to these individuals that the GCPD has turned. GCPD Special Crimes Unit was created initially for ordinary but experienced officers to tackle the crimes only Batman ever could. Now however with extra-ordinary officers on board, Commissioner James Gordon has tasked the Special Crimes Unit with taking the fight to the enemy.
Their job is to investigate the crimes no one else can solve, to take down the criminals no one else can touch. They are now Gothams last best weapon in the fight against the crime in the darkness. They are the GCPD's 'Night Shift'.

Welcome to Gotham detective
I'm looking for 3, maybe 4 players, if you want to pair up, you'll be more popular because I don't want to write too many threads. If there are too many applications I'll be picking the ones who best fit the stories I have in mind.
You have 30w (+8 challenges) to create your character. I'm aiming at detectives with a super edge, not full blown replacements for batman. That said if you go over a little because you have a great idea and have written a great background to support it I'm sure I can live with it.
I'm firmly of the opinion that even if you were playing Galactus the SpaceGod I could still come up with Galactus' bigger older uglier brother who has done a bit of time in Space God Jail because of Galactus and boy is he pissed xD.
Basically here story is king. CADs need backgrounds. Character need history. If you need help on what to put into a background let me know. The better your background the more I can weave you into the story and the better everyone's experience will be.
Just keep in mind we're trying to tell a story together, you tell me your story, I'll tell you mine.
