AND ONE SHALL SURELY DIE? For someone who spent the past several months majoring in magnificent gloom, cutting across the sky over Ottawa is a welcome change. Maybe James McDonald is finally getting used to the idea that Department H is gone forever, and Alpha Flight is an independent body. He has never really been able to accept the idea of Alpha on its own, yet, somehow the removal of government funding has taken a great weight off his shoulders. He's still out of a job, of course, but he and his wife are managing nicely on Heather's salary. And...he's got to admit...there's a considerable ego-stroke in being Canada's Captain America. Rare happy thoughts filling his heart, the man called Guardian speeds toward a quiet residential neighborhood, approaching one house in particular far faster than any human eye could hope to follow, his home. He landed in the back yard hopefully away from prying eyes. He walked in looking for Heather. He had missed her. "Heather I'm home."

Heather's still at work. Not even executive secretaries have quite the open hours of unemployed petro-chem engineers. It's a letter from Roxxon! Now what in the world would America's biggest oil company be doing writing to Mr. J. M. Hudson? In fact, how did they even get his address? James reached over and grabbed the letter and opened it. He thought to himself, "What do these guys want?" He pulled the letter out and read it.

The letter offers Dr. Hudson a most lucrative executive scientist position with that corporate giant, Roxxon Oil. A position with that would necessitate moving to New York City. "Honey, I'm home!" James hears his wife Heather call to him from the front door. "Did you see that letter from Roxxon? It looks important!"DOOM POOL: 2D6 Scene Distinctions: HOME IN RESIDENTIAL OTTAWA and LETTER FROM ROXXON OILGuardian's PP: 1 Guardian's Assets: None Guardian's Stress/Trauma: None Guardian's Complications: None Guardian's XP: 0

"Hey honey." He closed the letter. "Yeah, they are offering me a job." He handed her the letter. "I know we are scrapping by on your salary, but I don't know, it means moving to New York." He placed both hands on the counter and looked at her. "I don't think I want to do it, it would take me away from my duties here."

"Do you mean your duty to the team?" Heather asks. "Alpha is tighter now than ever before. A little over 500 kilometers won't change that. Dr. Lankowski is currently working at an isolated research station on Mt. Logan, over 4,000 km from Ottawa!"
"You deserve this, Mac. And just think of all the potential adventures in living and working in the Big Apple!"DOOM POOL: 2D6 Scene Distinctions: HOME IN RESIDENTIAL OTTAWA and LETTER FROM ROXXON OIL Guardian's PP: 1 Guardian's Assets: None Guardian's Stress/Trauma: None Guardian's Complications: None Guardian's XP: 0

"You think I should take the job. Granted it wouldn't take much time to fly home with the suit." Mac, walked over to the phone and picked it up and dialed Roxxon, to set up a meeting time.

So, leaving Heather to "close up shop" in Ottawa, Jim flew down to meet his new employers. And, as Heather takes care of moving them out of one apartment... This stately old brownstone in Brooklyn Heights, 569 Leaman Place, seems just perfect. Will Guardian sign the lease and make a career decision that involves significant time away from the rest of Alpha Flight? "Yes, we have a deal." James signed the lease and let out a sigh. Let's see how New York works, compared to Ottawa.

OOC: Guardian earns 1 XP!Seeing no reason to waste time, James Hudson signs his John Hancock on the dotted line. The times are a'changin' for this Canadian lad. Two weeks ago he was an unemployed petro-chem researcher with absolutely no prospects... "The Heights in general attract a very nice class of people," Kevin says, as a very nice looking couple approaches the front steps. FYI: There is a secluded alley not far away, where Guardian can change his clothes and compress his civvies into a handy collapsible duffle bag. (Sorry for being slow. I have lots going on right now.)
James waved at the couple. Now it was time to familiarize himself with this city. He closed and locked the door behind him and walked towards the alley.

OOC: No problem. I was out of town this week anyway.Changing clothes in a New York alleyway really makes James Hudson feel like a super hero. Guardian met most of America's super folk a few months back at the amnesty declaration for the Hulk. But he had no idea then that he'd be moving here, leaving Canada, maybe forever. Who knows? Before this year ends he might find himself fighting side by side with Thor or Captain America or Iron Man!Not so long ago, Jim would have seen this move as a chance to hang up the battle-suit for good. But now he finds himself thinking of all the potential adventures in living and working in the Big Apple. And speaking of adventures, while in the vicinity of Lincoln Circle, Guardian's heroic musings are cut short by a lightning bolt that crosses his path! The electronic billboard overlooking the circle spells out the responsible miscreant's name: E-L-E-C-T-R-O! The master of electricity is atop the billboard and having a fine time scaring the populace and attracting attention.
