EARTH 10005 CASTING CALL
THE GIFTED: EMERALD UNDERGROUND
We’re looking for two more players for a game taking place in the X-Men cinematic universe, specifically in the setting of the TV show, “The Gifted.” Want to play a young mutant whose life has just flipped upside down, unsure of what gifts the genetic lottery has given you? Or perhaps you want to re-imagine a non-cannon character (one who hasn’t appeared in the movies) into this more-grounded-than-comics setting? HMU!
*****************************
July 15, 2013 – Dallas, Texas. That was the tipping point.
The public has known about us since the 70’s; governments before that. Things have always teetered between various degrees of hostility, with agitators on both sides. But there was always “the Dream,” a vision of a future where mutants and non-mutants worked together for the betterment of mankind; a dream with heroic proponents that kept the nightmares in check.
7/15 was supposed to have been a peaceful protest for mutant rights, but it turned into a showdown instead. Something happened. People died. Lots of them. Our champions disappeared, and with them, it seemed, our hope. That’s when the nightmare began.
It’s only been five years but living in the United States feels like living in occupation territory. The normies feel like they’re besieged by terrorists with weapons of mass destruction. The rest of us are living behind enemy lines.
Before they vanished, the X-Men saw all this coming, and they left behind a glimmer of hope. That’s us; the Mutant Underground. We’re the last resistance against a tyrannical government, offering refuge to our persecuted brothers and sisters, pushing back against enemies who want to imprison us – or worse.
Less than a year ago, things came to a head with an Underground cell in Atlanta. Sentinel Services – the anti-mutant branch of Homeland Security – cracked down, and nefarious machinations were brought to light. Now the danger has ramped up for all of us, even here in the Pacific Northwest, where formerly sleepy authorities are waking up and taking note on one hand, and former allies of convenience are re-negotiating our relationships on the other.
The light of the Dream seems to be flickering out, but it’s not dead. Not yet. It lives on in us, but things aren’t looking good. Now more than ever is the time to step up.
Are you game?
***************************
Your character should strive for a normal-level of morality. In other words, no murder hobos, excessive criminal instincts, and others who see violence as their first resort. Remember, most of the characters should be normal people who have had their world turned upside down. Mostly.
CAD Options:
• characters from the X-Men stories who weren’t affiliated with the X-Men in this setting – characters who appeared in the X-Men movies are not appropriate [25+8]
• wildcard characters, whose abilities have just (or recently) awakened – your powers will be randomly generated (e.g.: the Strucker kids) [20+8]
