I can do whatever, most systems are fine with me and I've played quite a few of them. Given that it's a forum play, probably the simplest the better.

I have 0 real experience with CoC or (old or new) WoD, but would be open to playing almost anything. Agree with Gris that simpler is better. There are big swaths of Vampire lore I like but other parts I want to throw out entirely (especially the mechanics). I'm thinking of ideas, and if I'll post if I come up with anything more firm than "something vaguely Lovecraftian (i.e. an encounter with horrors 'beyond understanding,' not necessarily Mythos-related), possibly with Vampires."

Although CoC and WoD are probably good thematic fits, I unfortunately don't have enough experience with either to confidently design a game around them. I'm trying to find the Dresden Files RPG based on Fate core and the Supernatural RPG based on Cortex. My sense is that both would be good thematic fits. Fate in particular is a "rules-medium" (and can be pared down even more to rules-light) system that should probably be easy to learn. Cortex is a little on the heavy side, but can also be pared down a lot easier than, say, D20. I've dabbled with Unisystem, and "Witchcraft" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in that system also seem like good thematic fits. But I think both systems are a little more on the complex side, like D20. There's also a system called "Cthulu Dark" which is supposed to be very user friendly. The basic rules are here catchyourhare.com/files/Cthulhu%20Dark.pdf. Never tried it though, and one review of it suggested that most encounters boil down to how fast you can run away and hide. Not sure that's everyone's cup of tea. My sense is that MURPG would be harder to adapt to the setting than these other systems, but I can give it a shot if I have to. As I can't figure out how to change the poll, please, feel free to respond directly to this post with a ranking of your top three or four preferences. If there's a strong consensus for any one system, I'll go with it even if it's one I haven't done before and try to learn it. If there isn't a strong consensus, I'll try and figure out a way how to count each vote. Probably something like 3 or 4 points for 1st preference, 2 or 3 for second, and so forth, and again, if any one gets a strong consensus, I'll go with it.
