Thousands of years ago, as hard as it might be to believe, humanity ruled the world, supplanting the Neanderthals to reshape the Earth through their innate advantages. Through some combination of hubris or arrogance or sheer blind ignorance they themselves were supplanted by the advantaged next stage in evolution, Homo Sapiens Superior. Humanity tried to hold onto its favored status by creating mechanical Sentinels that would safeguard their supremacy, but to the immense powers of the mutants they proved a stopgap measure, and many of the old norms were washed away in the same atomic fires that cleansed and reshaped the whole world. The island of Manhattan that was once a citadel of humanity that has now become the central city-state of a civilization ruled by mutants. Superstition and the sword are the order of the day, dominated by backstabbing factions of zealots working with agents of the Great Mutant Houses. Lord Magnus XVI, descendant of the Great Magneto himself, rules over a court of Hellfire backstabbers, Xavier mystics, and Brotherhood zealots. Descendants and relics of the ancient wars lurk in the shadow of the Sentinel Wall, which holds back Gamma-mutated raiders and raiding warbands of Clan Akkaba, each claiming themselves the ultimate superior heir to Apocalypse. The further beyond Manhattan the murkier and overrun it gets with few bastions far between.
In the undercity, many of the old shadows and shades lurk and ply their trade using the same ancient weapons, reproduced from archaic designs hoarded by covetous sages: a panoply of winged harnesses, vibrating shock gauntlets, repulsor gauntlets, pumpkin bombs, and far more strange devices. The mutants, especially the zealots who worship the Phoenix, find these practices highly distasteful, and destroy them wherever they find them. These shadows all fear one other shadow: an ancient force of justice said to strike from nowhere and return just as quickly, a berserk consumed with burning vengeance in their guts, known by the mark of the skull and the name of The Punisher. The newest Punisher was said to have been born a free human, broken by mutant masters and turned into a weapon in their gladiatorial arenas, only to escape and be unleashed onto a waiting world. She has sworn vengeance on the Great Mutant Houses, most notably a personal vendetta towards Duke Fitzroy. The Duke has captured The Punisher and sentenced her to death, most recently in a debacle that left many dead and the Duke’s men hot on her heels in pursuit.
I will be doing primary GM duties with OurLadyWar providing special support (and playing Matilda Castle/The Punisher).
Character Submissions
35 stones+up to 10 stones in challenges, being a mutant in this setting is worth 0 stones in challenges (although the Non-Human Appearance challenges still apply, mutants have ingrained prejudices towards more physical mutations), being a purebred human is 3 stones (and I’d restrict maximum physical abilities and some modifiers like Reflexive Dodge and Toughness), characters who are known “sorcerers” (whether mutant, mutagenic, or magic-user) face a 2-stone challenge. Other than that, I’m not banning imposing any custom rules this time around.
Feel free PM me with any questions, comments, etc. I’m not going to set a deadline for submissions until I get a sense of how many I’ll get, but I’m looking for about 4 players.
