I find funny and telling that it's not Suicide Squad 2. We got a teaser and a featurette, and it's... promising?

I'm glad that Gunn is seemingly embracing the idea that most of these characters are meant to be short-lived. One of the many, many problems with the first Suicide Squad movie was that they tried to build it like any other ensemble cast action movie, when it should really be its own thing.
I also like that DC has been leaning in to some of its more outlandish and laughable characters in both this, and shows like Harley Quinn. They aren't ready to challenge Marvel in terms of epicness, but there's actually a lot of space that they can carve out for themselves.
Minor note: Also happy to see they didn't just recast Deadshot, but gave Idris Elba his own character instead.

I was low-key triggered that they offed Slipknot so quickly, lol. He was one of those low-tier obscure characters I loved for no reason whatsoever as a kid. I was hoping they'd do something with him. /shrug

Trailer:
In a lot of ways this feels a lot closer to what a Suicide Squad movie should be, but at the same time it looks a little too bright and funny. Looks fun, though.

I guess it's hard to pinpoint what a Suicide Squad book/movie/series should be, as I haven't been a fan of the comic-book most of the time yet I enjoyed different takes on it, specially the one that finished last year with mostly new characters. This trailer feels first and foremost as a Gunn movie, but that doesn't mean it can't work, specially if people know what they are getting into (and the trailer seems pretty honest about it). I do like his movies, I guess I expected more Super and less R rated Guardians of the Galaxy, but it can work and I'm quite curious to see the outcome.

It does look aggressively James Gunn-ish. Similar to how DC let Snyder go full throttle his own style and ideas, I bet they're giving Gunn the same green light. Marvel tends to be much more controlling in order to keep their movies feeling cohesive enough to enable crossovers, and while overall I think I like the results a little better, it has cost Marvel a few directors along the way. Notably, Patty Jenkins went on to almost singlehandedly breathe life into the DCEU via Wonder Woman; that one has to sting a little. I wonder if Gunn will wind up accomplishing something similar here.

I'm just glad Harley looks more accurate.

Got to visit the movie theater yesterday and it was quite a surprise. Coming from James Gunn I expected it would be at least decent, but it turned out to be really fun. It's stupid as hell, of course, but I guess that's just what I needed at the moment. The bar is pretty low, but it's my fave DC shared movie universe thing so far.

It was okay. Pacing was really, really weird, but I embraced it after a while - or at least I kinda let it slide. What mostly hurt my enjoyment was the ridiculous levels of plot armor certain characters had, which undermined most of the movie's signature edge, but it was still able to coast on the excellent cast. I'm not really a big James Gunn fan, but I appreciate that he went all-out, and that the studio let him. I wish I hadn't seen the trailers; they left very little to the imagination.
EDIT: It's such a bizarre movie that I think I need to watch it again.
